In 1314, King Edward II led a massive invasion of Scotland in an effort to crush the Scots. However, it was during this critical moment that Scotland's greatest medieval king, Robert, famously known as "The Bruce," emerged to defend his nation. The momentous clash between the two forces took place on the 23rd and 24th of June 1314 at Bannockburn, a small stream within view of Stirling Castle. Before the modern Scots, before the Angles and Saxons and Nordic populations of the Danelaw, before the Romans... Scotland was the land of the Picts. But where have these mysterious populations gone? In one of the first genetic analyses of Pictish Scotland, the authors of this PLOS Genetics article chart the results of eight bodies from Pictish graves from Ballintore and Lundin Links, Scotland.
This is an initial study, not nearly as comprehensive as those done in neighboring England and Ireland, but the data indicate the movements of ancient populations over the millennia, and the authors promise further studies to come. So for you lovers of Scotland, wonder no more about the fate of the Picts, for their history is written in their genes.

1066 and all that! Also known as Late Medieval Britain. From the Battle of Hastings through to the War of the Roses. This was the time of castles, cathedrals and chivalry… well at least two of those.
As well as looking at the big events of this period we also cover how ordinary people lived. In a time of persistent plagues, long hours in the field and short life expectancies there were still opportunities to enjoy life.
The next episode, Tudor Britain, will be released on Tuesday 28th July 2020 – or possibly sooner. Subscribe to keep updated.

Medieval Europe is a feature length journey through the Middle Ages! It is divided into 5 major timeframes. The Early Middle Ages picks up after the fall of Rome, and deals with the rise of monasticism, the Carolingians, Magyar and Viking invasions, and the feudal and manor systems. Then we head into the High Middle Ages, with a glimpse at village and city life, as well as a tour of each main region, beginning with England. This is followed by a quick overview of the Crusades and religious orders, and then the Late Middle Ages, going over the Black Death, Hundred Years War, and Western Schism. Europe recovers during the Italian Renaissance, as we take a look at the famous artists and humanists of the period, before another short tour of where each region stands as the Medieval age ends. The timeframe goes a bit beyond year 500 to 1500.

Welcome to The Medieval World series! This series is meant to summarize broad topics in history and balances political history and events, with social/daily life, and culture. If you've watched our History of the World documentary, this series is a perfect next step. The videos are standalone, but presented in a chronological fashion. The series will be divided into 8 videos about the Medieval Period, which we call Phase 2. Once these 8 videos are completed, we will move onto Phase 3, but this project will be considered completed, and compiled into ONE MEGA-DOCUMENTARY containing all 8 parts.

https://wn.com/Medieval_Europe_A_Complete_Overview
This is our DOUBLE-SIZED 7th episode in the Medieval World mega-documentary!
0:00 Early Middle Ages
22:31 High Middle Ages
59:03 Crusades and Religious Orders
1:12:55 Late Middle Ages

Welcome to The Medieval World series! This series is meant to summarize broad topics in history and balances political history and events, with social/daily life, and culture. If you've watched our History of the World documentary, this series is a perfect next step. The videos are standalone, but presented in a chronological fashion. The series will be divided into 8 videos about the Medieval Period, which we call Phase 2. Once these 8 videos are completed, we will move onto Phase 3, but this project will be considered completed, and compiled into ONE MEGA-DOCUMENTARY containing all 8 parts.

This thunderous battle would ultimately determine the destiny of the Scottish nation.

But what was everyday life like in a medieval village?
