Harry Ruby (January 27, 1895 – February 23, 1974) was a Jewish American composer and screenwriter, who was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1970.
Biography
Ruby was born in New York City. After failing at his early ambition to become a professional baseball player, he toured the vaudeville circuit as a pianist with the Bootblack Trio and the Messenger Boys Trio until meeting the man who would become his longtime partner, lyricist Bert Kalmar. Kalmar and Ruby were a successful songwriting team for nearly three decades until Kalmar's death in 1947, a partnership portrayed in the 1950 MGM musical Three Little Words, starring Fred Astaire as Kalmar and Red Skelton as Ruby.
A good friend of Groucho Marx, Ruby appeared several times on his television program, You Bet Your Life. In his 1972 concert at Carnegie Hall, Marx gave the following introduction before performing a song of Ruby's: "I have a friend in Hollywood . . . I think I do, I'm not so sure. [laughter] His name is Harry Ruby [applause] and he wrote a lot of songs that I've sung over the years . . ."
The Real McCoys revolves around the lives of a family from the Appalachian Mountains who originally hailed from fictional Smokey Corners, West Virginia. The McCoys moved to California and became dirt farmers. The family consisted of Grandpa Amos McCoy (Walter Brennan); his grandson Luke (Richard Crenna), Luke's new bride Kate (Kathy Nolan), Luke's teenage sister Tallahassie "Hassie" (Lydia Reed), and his 11-year-old brother Little Luke (Michael Winkelman). The double-naming of the brothers was explained in the first episode by the elder Luke: Because their parents were so excited over the birth of the younger boy, "they forgot all about me!" Only Crenna was in every episode.

Classic TV Theme: The Real McCoys
One of the most successful sitcoms from Danny Thomas's producing arm, it ran for five successful years on ABC. Part of the charm was the cornpone theme by songwriting legend Harry Ruby. But when a contract dispute and a change of networks prompted multiple cast members to exit the show, the lyrics were revised in season six, which might have been a mistake. After hearing the song every week for five years fans now heard lyrics that, because only two real McCoys were left on the show, were reduced to introducing the hired help and the guy next door. It sounded clumsy and awkward, as did the cheesy closing credits arrangement which sounds like it belongs on a cartoon show. You'll hear both the classic theme and the unfortunate rewrite on this video.

Lyrics:
Another night, another dream, but always you,
It's like a vision of love that seems to be true,
Another night another dream, but always you,
In the night I dream of love so true.
Just another night, another vision of love,
You feel joy, you feel pain, 'Cause nothing will be the same.
Just another night, is all that it takes,
To understand, the difference between lovers and fakes,
So baby, I talk talk, I talk to you,
In the night in your dream, of love so true.
I talk talk, I talk to you,
In the night in your dream, of love so true.
In the night, in my dreams,
I'm in love with you, 'Cause you talk to me like lovers do,
I feel joy I feel pain, 'Cause it's still the same,
When the night is gone I'll be alone."

Lyrics:
Call for love
I would call you up
Cause you're my automatic lover, you're number one
Call for love
I would call you up
Cause you're my automatic (automatic),
My automatic lover
Can you feel the force
Yeah can you feel it, can you deal with
My reincarnation and combination
With absolute sophistication
Deep deep down, deep in my heart may beat
You know there's something deep inside, a kind of mystery
So if you really need to satisfy your burning desire
You'd better call me up and I will set you on fire

I don't know the real from what I Know I saw I can't remember where I went Where I was I'm gonna move toward a point in time Where where you are is a state of mind And anytime I can read your thoughts Some of them yours and some of them I thought up There's no good reason for a heartbreak Nothing's repeating every Monday It's no good saying you'll always be mine These jokes life's playing it makes me so tired It's already to much to always seen you off The sense that hours go back is enough I like to fade when I write this line There's every reason to paint a decline And every mile I walk is five I'll get where I'm going in the next life And all the while there's a false face This every killing is left untraced This kind of falling saved my son
