Kieran Hebden (born 1978), best known by the stage nameFour Tet, is an English post-rock and electronic musician. Hebden first came to prominence as a member of the band Fridge before establishing himself as a solo artist.
Hebden's music originally eschewed the traditional pop song format in favour of a more abstract approach—his sound and melodies incorporate elements of hip hop, electronica, techno, jazz, grime and folk music with live instrumentation. His newer works are inspired heavily by house music.
Kieran Hebden was born in London to a South African-born Indian mother and a British sociology lecturer father. He attended Elliott School in Putney, where he formed the band Fridge with classmates Adem Ilhan and Sam Jeffers. The band signed a recording contract when Hebden was 15, and released their first album, Ceefax, on Trevor Jackson's Output Recordings label in March 1997.
Felix the Cat is a animalcartooncharacter created in the silent film era. The anthropomorphicblack cat with his black body, white eyes, and giant grin, coupled with the surrealism of the situations in which his cartoons place him, combine to make Felix one of the most recognized cartoon characters in film history. Felix was the first character from animation to attain a level of popularity sufficient to draw movie audiences.
Felix's origins remain disputed. Australian cartoonist/film entrepreneurPat Sullivan, owner of the Felix character, claimed during his lifetime to be its creator. American animatorOtto Messmer, Sullivan's lead animator, has been credited as such. What is certain is that Felix emerged from Sullivan's studio, and cartoons featuring the character enjoyed success and popularity in the 1920s popular culture. Aside from the animated shorts, Felix starred in a comic strip (drawn by Sullivan, Messmer and later Joe Oriolo) beginning in 1923, and his image soon adorned merchandise such as ceramics, toys and postcards. Several manufacturers made stuffed Felix toys. Jazz bands such as Paul Whiteman's played songs about him (1923's "Felix Kept On Walking" and others).
Roy Hinkley, referred to as The Professor, is one of the seven castaways from the television seriesGilligan's Island (1964–67); he was played by Russell Johnson. The character was originally played by John Gabriel in the pilot episode, but the network thought he looked too young to have all the degrees attributed to the Professor.
Character summary
The Professor's backstory identifies him as a high schoolscience teacher who was born in Cleveland, Ohio. His principal expertise was as a botanist, whose purpose in joining the ill-fated voyage that stranded the castaways was to write a book to be titled Fun With Ferns. His main function on the show was to devise many ways for the castaways to live more comfortably on the island. Many of his inventions (including a method for recharging the batteries in the ubiquitous radio) utilized coconuts and bamboo, both of which were in plentiful supply. Aside from his proficiency in science, he was also adept and well-versed in law, literature, social sciences, and the arts. Besides a list of degrees from various schools (including USC, UCLA, SMU, and TCU) he provides in one episode, little was ever learned about his past and nothing was ever learned about his family. In several episodes there are brief remarks on his past: in the pilot he is described as a research scientist and "well-known scoutmaster"; in another when a big game hunter comes to the Island and asks the Professor what sports he took, the answer is "chess"; after kissing Ginger for a prolonged period (during filming of a silent movie) he claims to be a "scuba diver"; in another when the castaways try to recreate who killed "Randolph Blake", the Professor threatens to "...cancel his subscription to the Science Quarterly". Also, in the episode "Will the Real Mr. Howell Please Stand Up?", the professor states that he does "...hold a Masters Degree in Psychology".

Title : Generationary and Exemplification Modeling: Going Beyond Word Sense Disambiguation by Generating Definitions and Usage Examples
Abstract :
In this talk, I present two novel approaches, Generationary and Exemplification Modeling, that go beyond the mainstream assumption that word senses can be represented as discrete items of a predefined inventory, and put forward generative models which produce contextualized definitions and usage examples for arbitrary lexical items, from words to phrases. Generationary employs a novel span-based encoding scheme to fine-tune an English pre-trained Encoder-Decoder system and generate new definitions. Generationary outperforms previous approaches in the generative task of Definition Modeling in many settings, but it also matches or surpasses the state of the art in discriminative tasks such as Word Sense Disambiguation and Word-in-Context. Exemplification Modeling takes the opposite perspective: it puts forward a novel task and a seq2seq architecture which generates usage examples given one or more words with their sense definitions. In addition to their considerable degree of freedom in "understanding" lexical meanings, we show that both approaches benefit from training on definitions from multiple inventories, with strong gains across benchmarks.

Taking an entity linking model from MVP into production in a spaCy-native pipeline architecture posed several data science and engineering challenges, such as hyperparameter estimation and knowledge enhancement, which we addressed by taking advantage of the engineering tools Docker and Kubernetes to semi-automate training as an on-demand job.
We also discuss some of our learnings and process improvements that were needed to strike a balance between data science goals and engineering constraints and present our current work on improving performance through BERT-embedding based contextual similarity.

Chapter 1 the magic bag of felix the cat.
Felix the Cat is a cartoon character from the silent-film era. His black body, white eyes, and giant grin, coupled with the surrealism of the situations in which his cartoons place him, combined to make Felix one of the most recognizable cartoon characters in the world. Felix was the first character from animation to attain a level of popularity sufficient to draw movie audiences based solely on his star power.

Evolution of FELIX THE CAT - 100 Years Explained | CARTOON EVOLUTION
CARTOON EVOLUTION #6
To celebrate his centenary, I take a look at the 100 year history and evolution of FELIX THE CAT, the world's first cartoon superstar and the first licensed and mass-merchandised character in history.
Created by Australian cartoonist Pat Sullivan and artist Otto Messmer, Felix debuted in 1919 and quickly won world-wide acclaim, breaking ground as the first licensed and mass-merchandised character – thus becoming the debut cartoon superstar.
With almost 200 shorts to his name by the end of the 1920s, Felix fell out of audience favor with the arrival of a slew of revolutionary sound-and-colour characters, including Walt Disney's Mickey Mouse, and found himself struggling to reclaim his title. With numerous ‘reboots’ launching over the decades to varying degrees of suc...

Four Tet’s music is a perhaps too-easy-to-understand yet still a perplexing perennial concern. With ’Sixteen Oceans’ he reels off 10 tracks of signature, lilting rhythmelodic cadence at an unhurried pace, including his ‘Teenage Birdsong’ tune.

Disambiguation or Entity Linking is the assignment of a knowledge base identifier (Wikidata, Wikipedia) to a named entity. Our goal was to improve an MVP model by adding newly created knowledge while maintaining competitive F1 scores.

Note: I only learned that Cuphead could talk after playing the game. It was already too late to change anything.
With numerous ‘reboots’ launching over the decades to varying degrees of success, it’s a struggle he still faces today.
I take a look at how Felix has evolved over hundreds of shorts and numerous television series and films, discussing the most important changes in his design and personality and in the stylistic and narrative structures of his productions prevalent across a century of media.
Here's my look at Felix the Cat through the years!
