Jeff Kashiwa born in 1963 in Louisville, Kentucky but moved to Seattle as a young child. He credited the public school's music program for his starting his interest in music. He has also credited his father, who died in 1992, for his love of music because he was a fan of jazz music including Benny Goodman and Glenn Miller. While attending school, his father gave him an old silver clarinet. When he later saw a row of saxophones at school, Kashiwa knew he had found his new instrument.
As a local gig musician and working small jobs, Kashiwa searched for an audition in a more permanent position in a band. After searching and being denied, he approached Steve Bailey from The Rippingtons. Kashiwa was a fan of the Rippingtons and hired Bailey to play along with him and eventually asked about The Rippingtons audition. Kashiwa joined The Rippingtons following a festival concert and Brandon Fields' exit from the group. Kashiwa prepared himself for the role by learning every song in the group's library prior to being hired, making his eventual step into Field's large shoes seemingly effortless. Kashiwa recorded his first two solo albums, ("Remember Catalina" and "Walk A Mile"), during his tenure with The Rippingtons.
The Pact is the feature-length documentary film directed and produced by Andrea Kalin, presented by the National Black Programming Consortium, and aired on public television about three childhood friends from New Jersey who make a pact to help keep each other in school, graduate, and all successfully become doctors. The three men now appear as motivational speakers known as The Three Doctors.
Summary
Sampson, George, and Rameck could easily have followed their childhood friends into drug dealing, gangs, and prison. Like their peers, they came from poor, single-parent homes in urban neighborhoods where survival, not scholastic success, was the priority. When the three boys met in a magnet high school in Newark, they recognized each other as kindred sprits that wanted to overcome the incredible odds against them and reach for opportunity.
They made a friendship pact, deciding together to take on the biggest challenge of their lives: attending college and then medical and dental schools. Along the way they made mistakes and faced disappointments, but by working hard, finding the right mentors, separating themselves from negative influences, and supporting each other, they achieved their goals–and more.

Unconditional love, that is what you've given to me And I thank God, that you will always be right here with me Even though we're apart, you know that you will always Have a place in my heart, And if you call out my name I'll be right there, so you don't have to cry alone Like an angel I'll fly to you With my arms open wide So you don't have to cry no more And with my wings open wide I'll do what it takes So you don't have to cry no more Now don't be ashamed of saying Of saying just how you feel Take fear from inside Open up your heart and say what's on your mind 'Cause you've shown me love with meaning, never were deceiving, for you I'm dedicated that's why I'm celebrating our love, and if you call out my name I'll be right there, so you don't have to cry alone Like an angel I'll fly to you With my arms open wide So you don't have to cry no more And with my wings open wide I'll do what it takes So you don't have to cry no more Like an angel I'll fly, with my wings open wide When you need me, so you just have to open your Heart, so just open your heart and you'll know from The start that you don't have to cry no more Like an angel I'll fly to you With my arms open wide So you don't have to cry no more And with my wings open wide I'll do what it takes So you don't have to cry no more
