The Netherlands (i/ˈnɛðərləndz/; Dutch: Nederland [ˈneːdərˌlɑnt]) is the main "constituent country" (Dutch: land) of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. It is a small, densely populated country located in Western Europe with three island territories in the Caribbean. The European part of the Netherlands borders Germany to the east, Belgium to the south, and the North Sea to the northwest, sharing maritime borders with Belgium, the United Kingdom and Germany. The largest and most important cities in the Netherlands are Amsterdam, The Hague and Rotterdam. Amsterdam is the country's capital, while The Hague holds the Dutch seat of government and parliament. The port of Rotterdam is the largest port in Europe – as large as the next three largest combined – and was the world's largest port between 1962 and 2004. The name Holland is also frequently used to informally refer to the whole of the country of the Netherlands.
"Netherlands" literally means "lower countries", influenced by its low land and flat geography, with only about 50% of its land exceeding one metre above sea level. Most of the areas below sea level are man-made. Since the late 16th century, large areas (polders) have been reclaimed from the sea and lakes, amounting to nearly 17% of the country's current land mass.
The Netherlands (Dutch: Nederland) is a country located in Western Europe.
Netherlands or Nederland may also refer to:
The Kingdom of the Netherlands (Dutch: Koninkrijk der Nederlanden; pronounced [ˈkoːnɪŋkrɛiɡ dɛr ˈneːdərlɑndə(n)];Papiamento: Reino Hulandes), commonly known as the Netherlands, is a sovereign state and constitutional monarchy with territory in western Europe and in the Caribbean.
The four parts of the Kingdom – Aruba, Curaçao, Sint Maarten and the Netherlands – are constituent countries (landen in Dutch) and participate on a basis of equality as partners in the Kingdom. In practice, however, most of the Kingdom affairs are administered by the Netherlands – which comprises roughly 98% of the Kingdom's land area and population – on behalf of the entire Kingdom. Consequently, the countries of Aruba, Curaçao, and Sint Maarten are dependent on the Netherlands for matters like foreign policy and defence, although they are autonomous to a certain degree with their own parliaments.
The vast majority in land area of the constituent country of the Netherlands (as well as the Kingdom) is located in Europe, with the exception of the Caribbean Netherlands: its three special municipalities (Bonaire, Saba, and Sint Eustatius) that are located in the Caribbean. The constituent countries of Aruba, Curaçao, and Sint Maarten are located in the Caribbean as well.
More than one name is used to refer to the Netherlands, both in English and in other languages. Some of these names refer to different, but overlapping geographical, linguistic and political areas of the country. This is a common source of confusion for outsiders. In English the country is called 'the Netherlands' (or frequently – as a pars pro toto 'Holland'), while the people and the language are called 'Dutch'. In Dutch the official (and predominant) terms for these are 'Nederland' for the country, 'Nederlanders' for the people and 'Nederlands' for the language, although they are occasionally and colloquially called 'Holland', 'Hollanders' and 'Hollands' respectively. The latter comes sometimes with the prefix oer or oud (meaning old or traditional), as in Oudhollandse gerechten (traditionally Dutch dishes).
Occasionally the the is incorrectly capitalised: 'the Netherlands' is similar to names such as 'the United States' and 'the Federal Republic of Germany', so the 't' should usually not be capitalised.
"Amsterdam" is a song by Jacques Brel. It combines a powerful melancholic crescendo with a rich poetic account of the exploits of sailors on shore leave in Amsterdam.
Brel never recorded this for a studio album, and his only version was released on the live album Enregistrement Public à l'Olympia 1964. Despite this, it has been one of his most enduringly popular works. It was one of the songs Mort Shuman translated into English for the Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris musical.
Brel worked on the song at his house overlooking the Mediterranean at Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, the house he shared with Sylvie Rivet, a publicist for Philips; a place she had introduced him to in 1960. "It was the ideal place for him to create, and to indulge his passion for boats and planes. One morning at six o'clock he read the words of Amsterdam to Fernand, a restaurateur who was about to set off fishing for scorpion fish and conger eels for the bouillabaisse. Overcome, Fernand broke out in sobs and cut open some sea urchins to help control his emotion."
Amsterdam is the capital and largest city of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
Amsterdam may also refer to:
A Rush of Blood to the Head is the second studio album by British alternative rock band Coldplay. Released on 26 August 2002 in the UK through the label Parlophone, the album was produced by the band and British record producer Ken Nelson. Recording started after the band became popular worldwide with the release of their debut album, Parachutes, and one of its singles in particular, "Yellow". The album makes greater use of electric guitar and piano than its predecessor.
The album was made available in August 2002, two months after its original planned release date. It was released on 27 August in the United States through Capitol Records. Capitol released a remastered version of the album in 2008 on a 180-gram vinyl record as part of the "From the Capitol Vaults" series. The album debuted and continued their huge commercial legacy, an ongoing pattern that began with Parachutes which made Coldplay one of the best-selling bands worldwide. It topped the UK Albums Chart upon its first week of release in the United Kingdom, and became the eighth biggest-selling album of the 21st century in the UK. The British Phonographic Industry has since certified the album 9× Platinum for its accumulated sales of over 2.8 million units in the UK and over 19 million worldwide. The album spawned the hit singles "In My Place", "The Scientist", and "Clocks". "God Put a Smile upon Your Face" was also released, but was significantly less successful.

http://www.euronews.com/ The new Dutch King Willem-Alexander has been sworn in at a ceremony in Amsterdam's Nieuwe Kerk. Willem Alexander becomes the first king of the Netherlands in more than 120 years, ascending a throne largely stripped of political power but still invested with huge symbolic significance. With his wife Queen Maxima by his side, the King took the oath of allegiance. Outside the church, a massive crowd had gathered to follow the ceremony on giant screens. Like her mother and grandmother before her, Beatrix, who is 75, chose to abdicate after a 33-year reign, saying her son was ready and that it was time for the throne to be held by "a new generation". Beatrix is a very popular Queen with an estimated 8 out of 10 Dutch people in favour of maintaining the monarchy. ...
At the end of the 16th century, The Netherlands are a republic, made up of seven independent provinces. They appoint a governor, a kind of president who also becomes the Prince of Orange. The appointment passes from father to son and over time the position of Orange's governor grows ever more powerful. But he still isn't king! (grrrr!) When the French overrun The Netherlands in 1795, the last town governor is run out of town. William the 5th flees to England (toodeloo!) and Napoleon takes over. (Bonjour!) Bonnie boy crowns his own brother King of Holland, a title the dear man himself can't even pronounce. And in the same move, Napoleon introduces the constitutional monarchy, which means the king is not all powerful but occasionally has to listen to Parliament. Eventually, the French are ...

How did Belgium break away from the Netherlands? In 1815, after centuries apart, the Low Countries ('Netherlands') were merged together into a single state: the United Kingdom of the Netherlands under William I of the House of Orange. Less than two decades later, the United Netherlands came to an end. The Belgian Revolution was sparked by an economic downturn, but it grew out of control because of the actions of the Dutch, not their southern subjects. Eventually, with the backing of the concert of Europe, Belgium formally broke free. The Kingdom of the Netherlands isn't just the European country of the Netherlands. It includes the independent nations of Curaçao, Aruba, Sint Maarten, and the Netherlands. Within the Netherlands itself are 3 special municipalities, Bonaire, Sint Eustatius, and Saba. This video explores these distinctions in greater depth, as well as the unique and interesting histories of each individual Caribbean island.
Yaji Ash-Shuthath!
When there were none in the nothingness
Beyond Tharh al Dubb al Akbar came Sothoth
Creator and destoyer of the gates
The glowing sphere who lies beyond
The transcendent lord of thousand colours
Whose gates shall set the horrors free
The All In One Who Is One In All
Who descended before man's creation
Monoliths we carve for Thy glory
Underneath the Watcher's eyes
Yog-Sothoth, may your names be known!
Mighty Beyond One, may your names be known!
Yaji Ash-Shuthath!
God of portals, create a way
Open wide the head of the dragon
Unnameable hungers are awakened
The ancient conquerors are coming
[Solo: Corpse]
Yog-Sothoth!
You know all things that are, that were, and that shall be
Beyond One!
