How To Grow Bitter Gourd | PLANTING, GROWING AND HARVESTING | Bitter Melon Farming / Cultivation
Bitter gourd is not exactly a favourite vegetable of most people. But there are also quite a few like me who love bitter tasting stuff like neem flowers, dark chocolate and of course bitter gourd. In fact in a complete Odia thali it is difficult not to find something bitter. Bitter tasting stuff is actually very good for the body. In fact if you did a search on internet you would find that Bitter gourd is an excellent source of Vitamin B, C, magnesium, zinc, phosphorus, manganese and iron. It contains twice the beta-carotene than broccoli, twice the calcium of spinach and twice the potassium of banana. In simple words it is a super food. World's Most Bitter Fruit : Bitter Melon - Japan Agriculture Technology - Bitter Melon Harvest
Bitter melon, also known as bitter gourd or karela (in India), is a unique vegetable-fruit that can be used as food or medicine. It is the edible part of the plant Momordica Charantia, which is a vine of the Cucurbitaceae family and is considered the most bitter among all fruits and vegetables.
The plant thrives in tropical and subtropical regions, including:
South America,Asia,parts of Africa,the Caribbean
The bitter melon itself grows off the vine as a green, oblong-shaped fruit with a distinct warty exterior - though its size, texture and bitterness vary between the different regions in which it grows - and is rich in vital vitamins and minerals.

Soil
Sandy loam soils rich in organic matter with good drainage and pH range of 6.5-7.5 is suited for bitter gourd cultivation. This crop requires a moderate warm temperature.
Season
Planting is done on July and January.
Seed rate
1.8 kg/ha
Preparation of field
Plough the field to fine tilth and dig pits of 30 cm x 30 cm x 30 cm size at 2 x 1.5 m spacing and form basins.
Sowing
Sow the seeds (5 seeds/pit) treated with Trichoderma viride 4 g or Pseudomonas fluorescens 10 g or Carbendazim 10 g/kg of seeds and thin the seedlings to two/ pit after 15 days.
Irrigation
Irrigate the basins before dibbling the seeds and thereafter once a week.
Application of fertilizers
Apply 10 kg of FYM per pit (20 t/ha) 100 g of NPK 6:12:12/pit as basal and 10 g of N/pit 30 days after sowing.Apply Azospirillum and Phosphobacteria 2 kg/ha and Pseudomonas @ 2.5 kg/ha along with FYM 50 kg and neem cake @ 100 kg before last ploughing.
Quality seedling production
Bitter gourd is a direct sown vegetable but polythene bag nursery is more advantageous to get early marketing and to avoid more gap filling. Use 200 gauge poly bags of 10 cm diameter x 10 cm height for sowing the seeds. Transplant about 15 days old seedlings to the main field.
Drip irrigation
Install drip system with main and sub-main pipes and place the inline lateral tubes at an interval of 1.5m. Place the drippers in lateral tubes at an interval of 60 cm and 50 cm spacing with 4LPH and 3.5 LPH capacities respectively.
Field preparation
Form the raised beds of 120cm width (120 cm) and spread the lateral tubes in the centre of each bed. Irrigation is done in the beds by operating the drip system continuously for 8-12 hrs. Spray pre emergence herbicide like Pendimethalin @ 1 Kg a.i/ha just before planting. Planting or sowing is done at the holes made at 2 m distance.
Fertigation
Apply a dose of 200:100:100 kg NPK/ha throughout the cropping period through split application.

The Mountain Goats: NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert From The Archives
We've been filming Tiny Desk concerts for more than 10 years. While revisiting our archives, we discovered that some of our earliest concerts never made it to YouTube!
Watch The Mountain Goat’s Tiny Desk concert from 2010: https://www.npr.org/2010/01/03/122106507/the-mountain-goats-tiny-desk-concert
Stephen Thompson | January 3, 2010
The Mountain Goats' John Darnielle keeps getting quieter, as his raw early bedroom recordings and bare-knuckle anthems continue to make way for polished ballads that whisper, seethe and mourn. The recent The Life of the World to Come at first feels strangely timid, but as its crushingly sad words sink in ("I am a flightless bird / There'll be no more after me," and so on), it hits slowly but deeply — less a punch than a gnawing ache.
In person, Darnielle's...

just Frosty the Goat - 27F - Roads are slippery & open - #goat #goats #shorts #short. #AVI
Feels like 27 degrees F with humidity this 7 am with Frosty the 3-legged goat.
The road below is OPEN. Wind gusts less and a warmer morning temperature.
AVI = Layers of old and new snow need to be measured in your area before you go into the backcou try. The afternoon warm temperatures creat a density heavy weight layer on top that can sheer and slide now with velocity. AVI HAZARD is a real danger now and the snow can crush you if you are caught in a river or slab slide in these new powder snow conditions #snowing . Be safe and be aware. The mountain gutters are set up now with overhanging cornices like a tourist trap ! The mountain can and will kill you if you don't pay attention.

The Mountain Goats - This Year
I broke free on a Saturday morning
I put the pedal to the floor
headed north on mills avenue
and listened to the engine roar
my broken house behind me
and good things ahead
a girl named Cathy
wants a little of my time
six cylinders underneath the hood
crashing and kicking
aha!
listen to the engine whine
i am going to make it through this year
if it kills me
i am going to make it though this year
if it kills me
i played video games in a drunken haze
i was seventeen years young
hurt my knuckles punching the machines
the taste of scotch rich on my tongue
and then Cathy showed up
and we hung out
trading swigs from a bottle
all bitter and clean
locking eyes
holding hands
twin high maintenance machines
i am going to make it through this year
if it kills...

LYRICS
I hope that our few remaining friends
Give up on trying to save us
I hope we come out with a fail-safe plot
To piss off the dumb few that forgave us
I hope the fences we mended
Fall down beneath their own weight
And I hope we hang on past the last exit
I hope it's already too late
And I hope the junkyard a few blocks from here
Someday burns down
And I hope the rising black smoke carries me far away
And I never come back to this town again
In my life, I hope I lie
And tell everyone you were a good wife
And I hope you die
I hope we both die
I hope I cut myself shaving tomorrow
I hope it bleeds all day long
Our friends say it's darkest before the sun rises
We're pretty sure they're all wrong
I hope it stays dark forever
I hope the worst isn't over
And I hope you blink before I do
And I hope I never get sober
And I hope when you think of me years down the line
You can't find one good thing to say
And I'd hope that if I found the strength to walk out
You'd stay the hell out of my way
I am drowning
There is no sign of land
You are coming down with me
Hand in unlovable hand
And I hope you die
I hope we both die

We've been filming Tiny Desk concerts for more than 10 years. While revisiting our archives, we discovered that some of our earliest concerts never made it to YouTube!

In person, Darnielle's twitchy, nervous energy serves his fearless songwriting well: He exudes gentility and good humor in conversation, but his performances are utterly committed, with intensity that infuses his screams and whispers alike. In this solo Tiny Desk Concert, his four songs fit nearly into distinct categories: new and quiet ("Hebrews 11:40"), new and loud ("Psalms 40:2"), old and quiet ("Color in Your Cheeks," from All Hail West Texas), and old and loud ("Going to Georgia," from Zopilote Machine). It's no surprise that all four approaches serve him well.
Also, it should be noted that Darnielle drew a large and admiring crowd for this show, even though it appears in the video that it was attended exclusively by a photographer and the giant blond head of Lars Gotrich. Trust me: We wouldn't have missed this one for anything.
Set List
"Color in Your Cheeks"
"Hebrews 11:40"
"Psalms 40:2"
"Going to Georgia"

AVI = Layers of old and new snow need to be measured in your area before you go into the backcou try. The afternoon warm temperatures creat a density heavy weight layer on top that can sheer and slide now with velocity. AVI HAZARD is a real danger now and the snow can crush you if you are caught in a river or slab slide in these new powder snow conditions #snowing . Be safe and be aware. The mountain gutters are set up now with overhanging cornices like a tourist trap ! The mountain can and will kill you if you don't pay attention.
the little goat lives in an igloo to stay warm outside and we let her inside to warm up and protect her from freezing -- we love her.

I broke free on a Saturday morning
I put the pedal to the floor
headed north on mills avenue
and listened to the engine roar
my broken house behind me
and good things ahead
a girl named Cathy
wants a little of my time
six cylinders underneath the hood
crashing and kicking
aha!
listen to the engine whine
i am going to make it through this year
if it kills me
i am going to make it though this year
if it kills me
i played video games in a drunken haze
i was seventeen years young
hurt my knuckles punching the machines
the taste of scotch rich on my tongue
and then Cathy showed up
and we hung out
trading swigs from a bottle
all bitter and clean
locking eyes
holding hands
twin high maintenance machines
i am going to make it through this year
if it kills me
i am going to make it though this year
if it kills me
i drove home in the California dusk
i could feel the alcohol inside of me hum
pictured the look on my stepfather's face
ready for the bad things to come
i down shifted
as i pulled into the driveway
the motor screaming out
stuck in second gear
the scene ends badly
as you might imagine
in a cavalcade of anger and fear
there will be feasting and dancing
in Jerusalem next year
i am going to make it through this year
if it kills me
i am going to make it though this year
if it kills me
