The Morning News (online magazine)

The Morning News is a U.S.-based daily online magazine founded in 1999 by Rosecrans Baldwin and Andrew Womack. It began as an email newsletter and in the fall of 2000 evolved into a news-oriented weblog with a New York focus. In October 2002, Baldwin and Womack launched The Morning News as a daily-published online magazine.

The Morning News publishes short pieces of humor, commentary, and personal essays. Other featured sections include Headlines, a twice-daily column of links to interesting, relevant, and obscure news stories and websites; Galleries, which highlights the work of contemporary artists and authors; and the Non-Expert, a satirical advice column. TMN also features a variety of themed blogs, including an interview series called TMN Talks and a book blog, Our Man in Boston, by Robert Birnbaum.

Time listed the magazine in the 2006 edition of its "50 Coolest Websites" and the Utne Reader called the site "more nourishing than the newsprint diet that has previously dominated your breakfast."

The Morning News (American newspaper)

The Morning News is a daily newspaper with a circulation of about 35,000, based in Florence, South Carolina. It is owned by Berkshire Hathaway.

It was founded as the Farmers' Friend in 1887, and was part of several mergers and name changes. In its early history it was aligned with the Democratic Party.

The first edition of the newspaper as the Weekly News and Review, appeared on March 18, 1922. Its immediate predecessor was the Florence News and Review, and its name was later changed to the Morning News Review. In February 1928 it purchased the Florence Daily Times and the name was changed to the Florence Morning News.

In 1945 it became the Florence Morning News. In 1956, then-editor Jack O'Dowd, the son of the newspaper's publisher, enraged the Ku Klux Klan by supporting the U.S. Supreme Court's Brown v. Board of Education desegregation decision and he was run out of town, going to a job with the Chicago Sun-Times. The only other South Carolina newspaper that took the progressive stance in the 1950s and 1960s was the Greenwood Index Journal. O'Dowd was replaced by James A. Rogers, who while also somewhat progressive editorial, took a less confrontational posture. Rogers wrote several books on the region and was instrumental in the creation of Francis Marion College in 1970, now Francis Marion University. He retired as editor in 1975.

Morning News (Canadian morning TV show)

The Morning News (known as the Saturday Morning News or the Sunday Morning News on Saturdays and Sundays respectively and the Early Morning News from 5-6 AM) is the name of local morning newscasts airing on Global Television Network's owned-and-operated stations (O&Os) in British Columbia, Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatoon, Regina, Winnipeg, Montreal, and Halifax with each station producing its own edition of the program.

As part of Shaw Communications' benefit package for acquiring Global and other specialty channels from the bankrupt Canwest, Global O&Os in Toronto, Winnipeg, Regina, Saskatoon, Montreal, and the Maritimes would each launch morning shows for their respective markets. As of January 28, 2013, this promise has been fulfilled by Shaw Media.

Global BC

The Morning News on Global BC airs at 5:00AM to 9AM PT on weekdays and at 7:00AM to 10:00AM PT on Saturday and Sunday mornings. It is simulcast on Global Okanagan. The weekday edition of Morning News is hosted by Steve Darling and Sonia Deol with Yvonne Schalle as meteorologist, and Kaitlyn Herbst as in studio traffic reporter and Amber Belzer in Global 1. The Saturday and Sunday edition of Morning News is hosted by Lynn Colliar with Sonia Beeksma on weather and Jay Janower on sports.

Cruel Summer (GOOD Music album)

Cruel Summer is a compilation album by recording artists of American record label GOOD Music, released on September 14, 2012, by the label and Def Jam Recordings. American rapper Kanye West, head of the label, first revealed plans for a label collaborative album in October 2011. The album produced four singles—"Mercy", "Cold", "New God Flow", and "Clique"—that charted on the US Billboard Hot 100.

Cruel Summer received generally positive reviews from music critics, who commended its hubristic style and the tracks featuring West, but found it uneven as an album. It debuted at number two on the US Billboard 200, selling 205,000 copies in its first week. The album also reached the top 10 of charts in Australia, Canada, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. As of November 4, 2012, Cruel Summer has sold 389,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Background and recording

Kanye West founded the GOOD Music label in 2004. Since the label's inception, multiple acts have been signed to the label, including close collaborators of West such as Kid Cudi, Common, John Legend, Pusha T and Big Sean. West first announced plans for a GOOD Music album in October 2011 via his Twitter account, writing: "GOODMUSIC.THE ALBUM.SPRING2012". Later on May 23, 2012, the title was revealed in part with a film, Cruel Summer, which debuted at the Cannes Film Festival. The album was originally slated for release on August 7, 2012, but underwent several delays.
