The Main Chance is a Britishtelevision series first aired on ITV in four series between 1969 and 1975. It is a drama series that depicts the sudden transformation in the life of a solicitor, David Main (played by John Stride), after he moves from London to Leeds.
Episodes
In all, 45 episodes were aired, each around 45 to 50 minutes long and divided into three parts. The first series, shown in 1969, was in black and white. From then on the show went out in colour. The first series consisted of six episodes, while subsequent series contained thirteen episodes each. The three later series were transmitted in 1970, 1972 and 1975.
Katherine Anne "Kate" Austen is a fictional character on the ABC television series Lost, played by Canadian actress Evangeline Lilly. Before the pilot was shot during the writing phase, Jack Shephard (Matthew Fox) died when the group finds the cockpit and Kate was to emerge as the leader for the survivors, motivating them to build shelter and begin considering life as permanent residents of the island, however when it was decided he should survive, she was a second-in-command. In this original description for Kate, she was a slightly older woman separated from her husband, who went to the bathroom in the tail-section of the plane. However, that idea ended up being used for Rose Henderson (L. Scott Caldwell) and her husband Bernard Nadler (Sam Anderson). Kate is involved in a love triangle with Jack and Sawyer (Josh Holloway) and is seen as very protective of Claire (Emilie de Ravin) and her baby Aaron.
Character biography
Prior to the crash
Born in 1977 and raised in Iowa, Kate is the daughter of diner worker Diane (Beth Broderick), and Sam (Lindsey Ginter), a U.S. Army Ranger and Gulf War Veteran. At an early age Kate's parents divorced, and Diane married an abusive alcoholic named Wayne Janssen (James Horan). As an adult, Kate killed Wayne, which she confessed to her mother before disappearing. Wayne had always been abusive to her mother, but Kate decided to kill him upon learning that he was her biological father. Diane called the authorities; thereafter Kate is pursued and ultimately arrested by Edward Mars (Fredric Lehne).

The Dodgy Tenant - Wilde Alliance (1978)
Patrick Newell plays a dapper neighbour to crime sloving couple Rupert and Amy Wilde (John Stride and Julia Foster) in this clip from the TV series Wilde Alliance (1978). However, beneath the veneer he is anything but respectable, which is evident from the first when he proves very touchy feely with a young woman he escorts into his flat, where it turns out he's been filming blue movies! He turns up at the Wildes to thank them for "looking after a package" for him, though they aren't happy that it turned out to be dodgy stuff he was hiding from the police. But Rupert is even less happy with Newell's next revelation - he actually owns the flat under them, scuppering any chance they had of ridding themselves of him!

The Main Chance is a British Television Series first aired on ITV in 1969, in black and white, after which it was in full colour.
It is a drama series that depicts the sudden transformation in the life of a solicitor, David Main played by John Stride, after he moves from London to Leeds.
Maverick lawyer David Main’s seemingly devil-may-care attitude is contrasted with the steady and cautious approach of his crusty Leeds partner Henry Castleton. Main's relentless pursuit of material and career success is, however, tempered by his desire to champion the underdog, for whom he feels an occasionally grudging kinship

David Main is an ambitious, dynamic and highly capable young solicitor who, having gained valuable experience in London, returns to his native Leeds to establish a new practice. Driven by a thirst for success, Main seeks out the most lucrative cases, but is also a man with a conscience who often acts for the most vulnerable and underprivileged. While his occasionally impetuous approach can take him into difficult legal waters to the distaste of his more reserved and cautious Leeds partner Henry Castleton Mains acumen and resourcefulness rarely fail him.
John Stride (The Wilde Alliance) stars as David Main, alongside Anna Palk as his efficient and attractive secretary, Sarah Courtenay; Peter Bowles, Diana Coupland and Peter Jeffrey are among the guest stars in this second series of the immensely popular drama from Yorkshire Television.
