Richard Elliot (born January 16, 1960 in Glasgow, Scotland) is a Scottish-born American saxophone player.
He was a member of the funk band Tower of Power playing tenor sax for 5 years during the 1980s. He also worked on Stacy Lattisaw's 1986 album "Take Me All The Way". His solo career took off when he remade the Percy Sledge classic "When a Man Loves a Woman" (which had also been remade by Michael Bolton). Other well-known songs include "In the Groove", "Take Your Time", "Crush", "Chill Factor", "Corner Pocket", and "Sly", as well as remakes of classic pop songs like "I'm Not in Love" and the Luther Vandross hits "Here and Now" and "Your Secret Love."
Elliot participated with fellow saxophonists Paul Taylor, Gerald Albright and keyboardist Jeff Lorber in the "Grooving for Grover" concert series. The series honored the legacy of the late Grover Washington, Jr., who was a founding father of smooth jazz.
Elliot was known for his zebra-striped tenor saxophone. In 2011, he switched from LA SAX Saxes to Dakota Saxophones, which the owner Peter LaPlaca sold LA for Dakota.
Influenza, commonly known as "the flu", is an infectious disease caused by an influenza virus. Symptoms can be mild to severe. The most common symptoms include: a high fever, runny nose, sore throat, muscle pains, headache, coughing, and feeling tired. These symptoms typically begin two days after exposure to the virus and most last less than a week. The cough, however, may last for more than two weeks. In children, there may be nausea and vomiting, but these are not common in adults. Nausea and vomiting occur more commonly in the unrelated infection gastroenteritis, which is sometimes inaccurately referred to as "stomach flu" or "24-hour flu". Complications of influenza may include viral pneumonia, secondary bacterial pneumonia, sinus infections, and worsening of previous health problems such as asthma or heart failure.
Three types of influenza viruses affect people, called Type A, Type B, and Type C. Usually, the virus is spread through the air from coughs or sneezes. This is believed to occur mostly over relatively short distances. It can also be spread by touching surfaces contaminated by the virus and then touching the mouth or eyes. A person may be infectious to others both before and during the time they are sick. The infection may be confirmed by testing the throat, sputum, or nose for the virus. A number of rapid tests are available; however, people may still have the infection if the results are negative. A type of polymerase chain reaction that detects the virus's RNA is more accurate.
The Grip is a live debut album by jazz saxophonist Arthur Blythe which was recorded at the Brook, New York City in 1977 and released on the India Navigation label. The album was released on CD as a compilation with Metamorphosis which was recorded at the same concert.
The Allmusic review by Eugene Chadbourne awarded the album 4 stars and states "Jazz listeners who want to get "lost in space" can consider this tasty slab of late-'70s indie jazz akin to a ticket on the Mars shuttle. Arthur Blythe and his associates on this record occupied one of the more spirited creative edges of the New York free jazz scene. The energy and determination with which the group plays is in itself an aspect that can make the sounds of other groups appear somewhat mummified".
This is a list of television programmes to have been broadcast on the children's television strand of RTÉ in the Republic of Ireland from 1986 until its conclusion.
Éanna ni Lamhna presented Creature Feature. It had a nature theme.
Each week Don Conroy would arrive at the studio to draw a picture (often of his beloved owls) or read from one of his children's books. The Den presenter, on his own sketchpad, would typically try to mimic Don's style; he would inevitably fail to match Don. Towards the end, Don would show the viewers a selection of drawings sent to him over the course of that week.
Echo Island —a "children's magazine" show along the lines of Blue Peter—first aired in 1994. The time of transmission was between 17:00 and 17:30. It ran three days a week for the first season, adding an extra programme at the start of the second season in September 1995, with two in English and the other two as Gaeilge. It was renamed Echo in 1999 (for its final season). Original hosts were Derek Mooney and Bláthnaid Ní Chofaigh. Comedian Dara Ó Briain, who has since become recognisable abroad, spent most of his RTÉ career on Echo Island from 1995 onwards. Carrie Crowley joined the show in 1996, later achieving global recognition by presenting Eurovision Song Contest 1997.

100 years ago, celebrations marking the end of the First World War were cut short by the onslaught of a devastating disease - the 1918-19 influenza pandemic. Its early origins and initial geographical starting point still remain a mystery but in the Summer of 1918, there was a second wave of a far more virulent form of the influenza virus than anyone could have anticipated. Soon dubbed ‘Spanish Flu’ after its effects were reported in the country’s newspapers, the virus rapidly spread across much of the globe to become one of the worst natural disasters in human history. To mark the centenary and to highlight vital scientific research, the University of Cambridge has made a new film exploring what we have learnt about Spanish Flu, the urgent threat posed by influenza today, and how scienti...

This video excerpt, taken from a larger program developed for Zirus, uses the H1N1 influenza-A virus to example the mechanism of action a virus takes to infect a host cell. Animation from this video was used by Robert Krulwich of NPR for a story on how the flu virus invades your body.

I, I would say go for it
Your head's to heavy for this place
You, you say you will die for it
Erase the past and fly away
Right here, right now
I remember all
My deepest fear
Will be losing you
I've been driving for days now
The streets up in heaven
Dream, where are all the dreams we had
And all the rhymes we used to sing
Hope, hope and forever hope
It seems like we've lost the grip on you
Right here, right now
I remember all
My deepest fear will be losing you
I've been driving for days now
The streets up in heaven
Come home
I've been driving for days now
The streets up in heaven
Come home
