The Galilean Satellites is the first studio album by Americanpost-metal band Rosetta, released in 2005 on Translation Loss Records.
The album is two discs long and the track lengths on each disc correspond to each other, indicating that the band intended the albums to be played at the same time. Disc one is in a post metal style while disc two is ambientnoise.
Production
Originally, the band intended to record a standard one-disc album and use the ambient pieces as segues; however, the band had enough material and the approval from Translation Loss to record a second disc. This setup was inspired by Neurosis' album Times of Grace.
Scott Hull of Pig Destroyer and Agoraphobic Nosebleed fame was originally hired to master the album; however, the band's dissatisfaction with his work caused him to leave the project; Weed himself did the mastering instead.
Release
The album was first released in 2005 in a limited-edition digipak format, then later in 2006 in a standard jewel case, both on Translation Loss Records. Additionally, an acoustic remix of "Au Pays Natal" was also recorded, but is not included in the album; rather, it was released as a download-only track on the band's website.
The Galilean moons are the four largest moons of Jupiter—Io, Europa, Ganymede, and Callisto. They were discovered by Galileo Galilei around January 1610 and were the first group of objects found to orbit another planet. Their names derive from the lovers of Zeus. They are among the largest objects in the Solar System with the exception of the Sun and the eight planets, with radii larger than any of the dwarf planets. Ganymede is the largest moon in the Solar System, and is even bigger than the planet Mercury. The three inner moons—Io, Europa, and Ganymede—are in a 4:2:1 orbital resonance with each other.
The Galilean moons were discovered in either 1609 or 1610 when Galileo made improvements to his telescope, which enabled him to observe celestial bodies more distinctly than ever. Galileo's discovery showed the importance of the telescope as a tool for astronomers by proving that there were objects in space that cannot be seen by the naked eye. More importantly, the incontrovertible discovery of celestial bodies orbiting something other than Earth dealt a serious blow to the then-accepted Ptolemaic world system, or the geocentric theory in which everything orbits around Earth.
Before moving on from Jupiter to Saturn, we’re going to linger for a moment on Jupiter’s moons. There are 67 known moons, 4 of which are the huge ones that we want to explore in greater detail. Ganymede is the largest - larger, in fact, than any other moon in the solar system and the planet Mercury! Callisto, orbiting the farthest out, is smaller but quite similar to Ganymede in many ways. Io, meanwhile, is most noteworthy for its tremendous volcanic activity. There’s also water on Ganymede and Europa!

Description
=======================
Galilean Moons is a dual amplitude transmutator. It transmutates the amplitude of incoming signals through the use of voltage controlled envelopes and VCAs. It is designed primarily to create voltage controlled percussive sounds when fed with a sound source (in particular, its sister module, Jupiter Storm), but can be used for all sorts of other tasks in your modular system as well as to generate typical synth sounds.
Galilean moons features two "moons". Each moon is composed of a voltage controlled attack/decay envelope with its own dedicated low-distortion linear VCA. Each envelope can also act as attack/sustain/release or can go into LFO/automatic looping mode with the flick of a switch.
Galilean Moons will normalise its VCA inputs to a Jupiter Storm cosmic noise oscillator through a simple expansion cable at the back, but it can also function standalone in any modular system. Of course, the new Jupiter Storm noise output, "XOR", which is activated by connecting a Galilean Moons to your Jupiter Storm, will not function when you use Galilean Moons alone in a system. This is the only feature which requires a Jupiter Storm to be connected.
The XOR noise output sounds similar to (but not exactly like) Jupiter Storm with the Noise Core Disruptor is engaged, even when it is not engaged. This allows you to get both flavours of noise from Jupiter Storm simultaneously, making it a lot more versatile.
The VCAs and voltage controlled envelopes can each be used on their own in your system when you don't want to use them the way they are internally linked together. Plugging a signal into any of the respective jacks will break the internal connections and let you use the components on their own. You can use the linear, DC-coupled VCAs to control DC signals in your system when not using the module for its intended use, for example.

Galilean Moons is a dual amplitude transmutator. It transmutates the amplitude of incoming signals through the use of voltage controlled envelopes and VCAs. It is designed primarily to create voltage controlled percussive sounds when fed with a sound source (in particular, its sister module, Jupiter Storm), but can be used for all sorts of other tasks in your modular system as well as to generate typical synth sounds.
Galilean moons features two "moons". Each moon is composed of a voltage controlled attack/decay envelope with its own dedicated low-distortion linear VCA. Each envelope can also act as attack/sustain/release or can go into LFO/automatic looping mode with the flick of a switch.
Galilean Moons will normalise its VCA inputs to a Jupiter Storm cosmic noise oscillator through a simple expansion cable at the back, but it can also function standalone in any modular system. Of course, the new Jupiter Storm noise output, "XOR", which is activated by connecting a Galilean Moons to your Jupiter Storm, will not function when you use Galilean Moons alone in a system. This is the only feature which requires a Jupiter Storm to be connected.
The XOR noise output sounds similar to (but not exactly like) Jupiter Storm with the Noise Core Disruptor is engaged, even when it is not engaged. This allows you to get both flavours of noise from Jupiter Storm simultaneously, making it a lot more versatile.
The VCAs and voltage controlled envelopes can each be used on their own in your system when you don't want to use them the way they are internally linked together. Plugging a signal into any of the respective jacks will break the internal connections and let you use the components on their own. You can use the linear, DC-coupled VCAs to control DC signals in your system when not using the module for its intended use, for example.

Before moving on from Jupiter to Saturn, we’re going to linger for a moment on Jupiter’s moons. There are 67 known moons, 4 of which are the huge ones that we want to explore in greater detail. Ganymede is the largest - larger, in fact, than any other moon in the solar system and the planet Mercury! Callisto, orbiting the farthest out, is smaller but quite similar to Ganymede in many ways. Io, meanwhile, is most noteworthy for its tremendous volcanic activity. There’s also water on Ganymede and Europa!

The Galilean Satellites is the first studio album by Americanpost-metal band Rosetta, released in 2005 on Translation Loss Records.
The album is two discs long and the track lengths on each disc correspond to each other, indicating that the band intended the albums to be played at the same time. Disc one is in a post metal style while disc two is ambientnoise.
Production
Originally, the band intended to record a standard one-disc album and use the ambient pieces as segues; however, the band had enough material and the approval from Translation Loss to record a second disc. This setup was inspired by Neurosis' album Times of Grace.
Scott Hull of Pig Destroyer and Agoraphobic Nosebleed fame was originally hired to master the album; however, the band's dissatisfaction with his work caused him to leave the project; Weed himself did the mastering instead.
Release
The album was first released in 2005 in a limited-edition digipak format, then later in 2006 in a standard jewel case, both on Translation Loss Records. Additionally, an acoustic remix of "Au Pays Natal" was also recorded, but is not included in the album; rather, it was released as a download-only track on the band's website.
The European Space Agency's Mars Express probe has caught a golden moment of Mars' small moon Deimos eclipsing Jupiter and its Galilean moons. At the time, Mars Express was almost 750 million kilometers from the moons of Jupiter.
