Caroline trusted The Fred Hollows Foundation to restore her sight

Caroline heard about an intensive eye surgery day at Darwin Hospital. The intensives are part of The Foundation’s work to reduce the backlog of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples waiting for cataract surgery.
When she left the surgery, she was overjoyed! “When you can’t see and then all of a sudden you can see, it’s like an explosion of sight! Thank you.”

Fred's Legacy - Teaching the teachers
Fred was always passionate about training local doctors. So on his last visit to Vietnam, he promised to train 300 Vietnamese eye doctors in the new modern cataract surgery.
25 years later, with the help of The Foundation, more than 200,000 cataract operations are performed each year in Vietnam.
Watch how Fred's effort to "teach the teachers" had a rippling effect on the Vietnamese eye health sector and empowered surgeons like Dr Binh to ensure high-quality eye care was accessible to all.

Fred Hollows and Dr Ruit challenged the ophthalmic world
Fred Hollows and fellow eye surgeon, Dr Sanduk Ruit, were great friends who shared the same vision: bringing affordable eye care and modern cataract surgery to people living in Nepal and other developing countries. While Fred didn’t live to witness it, their vision came true beyond what they imagined. Today, The Fred Hollows Foundation continues to work with Dr Ruit to address avoidable blindness in Nepal and across Asia.
