The Execution of All Things is the second full-length album released by Los Angeles-based indie pop band Rilo Kiley. Expanding on their previous musical sound that mostly incorporated guitars, vocals, percussion and pianos, the album contains heavy electronica sampling mixed into the songs in a rather unusual and displaced-sounding way. Also, unlike their previous tracks which were written in very traditional manners, the lyrics to the songs on Execution are very wordy and read like prose. Musically, the record has a very sunny disposition, with bouncing bass lines and simple melodies complemented by lead singer Jenny Lewis's vocal style, but the upbeat music is generally counterpointed by the often dark and morose subject matter that the lyrics reference. The album was recorded at Saddle Creek Records in Omaha, Nebraska, and the aforementioned features show the influence of that studio's associated Omaha Sound.
The album is also strung together by a song that is broken into pieces and that trails between several tracks. Called "And That's How I Choose to Remember It", it tells the story of Lewis' childhood and her parents' divorce. This theme is visited throughout the album, which is lyrically filled with childhood recollections of loss, displacement, anger and hopelessness.
"The Execution of All Things" is the title track of Los Angeles-based indie rock band Rilo Kiley's second album. It was released as a single on September 22, 2003 via Saddle Creek. Rilo Kiley's cover of The Velvet Underground's "After Hours" appears as a b-side, as does a new track called "Emotional (Until Crickets Guide You Back)". The single and its b-sides are available to download on the iTunes Store.
Rolling Stone called the song "a checklist of modern destruction", praising Lewis' "girlish, ethereal voice that makes the band's brutal vision all the more startling."

Rilo Kiley - The Execution of All Things, or IT'S APOCALYPSE TIME! (but all the lyrics are AI art)
A great song for when you're mad at the world and the mountains and mountains of BS that make up our post-post modern Walmart capitalist society. Neo-Gastonism FTW!

Soldiers come quickly, i feel the earth beneath my feet I'm feeling badly, but it's not an attempt at decency And if you're well off, well then i'm happy some for you But i'd rather not celebrate my defeat and humiliation here with you Someone come quickly, this place was built for moving out Leave behind buildings, the city planners got mapped out Bring with you history and make your hard earned feast Then we'll go to omaha, to work and exploit the booming music scene and humility And we've been talking all night Oh god come quickly, for the execution of all things Let's start with the bears and the air and then mountains rivers and streams Then we'll murder what matters to you and move on to your neighbors and kids Crush all hopes of happiness with disease 'cause of what you did Lastly, you're all alone with nothing left but sleep But sleep never comes to you, it's just the guilt and forever wakefulness of the weak It's just you and me
