R. B. Sheridan was born in 1751 in Dublin, Ireland, where his family had a house on then fashionable Dorset Street. While in Dublin Sheridan attended the English Grammar School in Grafton Street. The family moved permanently to England in 1758 when he was age seven. He was a pupil at Harrow School from 1762 to 1768.
His mother, Frances Sheridan, was a playwright and novelist. She had two plays produced in London in the early 1760s, though she is best known for her novel The Memoirs of Sidney Biddulph (1761). His father, Thomas Sheridan, was for a while an actor-manager at the Smock Alley Theatre but, following his move to England in 1758, he gave up acting and wrote several books on the subject of education and, especially the standardisation of the English language in education. After Harrow his father employed a private tutor, Lewis Ker, who directed his studies in his father's house in London, while Angelo instructed him in fencing and horsemanship.
The Critic is an Americanprime time animated series revolving around the life of New Yorkfilm criticJay Sherman, voiced by actor Jon Lovitz. It was created by writing partners Al Jean and Mike Reiss, who had previously worked as writers and showrunners (seasons 3 and 4) on The Simpsons. The Critic had 23 episodes produced, first broadcast on ABC in 1994, and finishing its original run on Fox in 1995.
The film was reportedly inspired by an actual incident. In Spring, 1962 Mel Brooks attended a movie theater, which among other films screened an animated short by Norman McLaren. It featured surrealistic, abstract imagery. During the screening of this short, Brooks listened to another audience member "mumbling to himself". He was an old immigrant man who was voicing his disappointment at the lack of a plot. Brooks was inspired to make a film out of this experience.
Brooks contacted Ernest Pintoff, who had experience producing animated works such as Flebus. They agreed to create a short film, and Brooks had two requests for his new partner. The visuals of the film had to be fashioned in a style similar to that of McLaren, and Brooks himself would have no specific warning of the content. He intended to improvise his monologue. Pintoff and animator Bob Heath completed the visuals as agreed, then Brooks watched the result and improvised his monologue. He used a Russian Jewish accent and attempted to find lines appropriate for an old man "trying to find a plot in this maze of abstractions."Henry Jenkins points that the comments themselves belong to a recognizable narrative mode, the stream of consciousness.
Brinsley is a village in Nottinghamshire, England. The church of St James was built in 1837-38 from Mansfield stone, the chancel being added in 1877. The village is split into two sections, Old Brinsley which is within Broxtowe and New Brinsley which is in Ashfield.
2007 Local Election
Brinsley elected Sadie Graham, a British National Party candidate in the 2007 Broxtowe council elections. However, she sat as an independent until she was dismissed for failing to attend meetings.
Brinsley Headstocks
Brinsley used to be a major mining village. The only remainder of this heritage are the headstocks. They are not only of significance for the area but are also the only headstocks left of this kind. After the final closure of Brinsley Pit they had been moved to a museum but have recently been restored and brought back to near their original place. The Friends of Brinsley Headstocks have worked on turning the area into a nature reserve. There are several farms in the area that have gone organic. The countryside is often explored by leisure walkers with walks organised by D.H. Lawrence Heritage.

The Critic 1779 comedy by William Brinsley Sheridan, 1982 TV production, Topaz AI Enhanced
The Critic: or, a Tragedy Rehearsed by Richard Brinsley Sheridan premiered at the Drury Lane Theatre in London in 1779.
This 1982 BBC TV Play of the Month production has a stellar cast but is not commercially available.
During the early 80's when this was made the BBC would routinely reuse video tapes or just lose them even though this content was publicly funded via a compulsory annual license fee paid by all UK TV owners. Not sure if the master for this still exists. This a poor domestic VHS recording significantly enhanced using the Topaz deep learning based video enhancer 1.9.0 (Artemis LQv10 model). As well as consummate performers like Alan Badel (Sir Fretful Plagiary) this production also features Hogwood's Academy of Ancient Music plus some of the finest baroque vocalists of the era. Even though the original 1779 script is used, the players bring it wonderfully to life. Vastly well as Sheridan would have said and very funny.

As far as I know this is the best version available but please comment if you know of a better one.
Another baroque video enhancement here https://youtu.be/UPBGuS7Nqfs , this time from a PAL DVD source.
The reimagining of Anthony Quinn's novel 'Curtain Call' centre on Jimmy Erskine (McKellen), the Daily Chronicle's most famous and featured theatre critic of the age; David Brooke (Strong), with whom he clashes after recently inheriting the paper; and a young actress, Nina Land (Arterton), who is devastated by Jimmy's recent negative review of her. As the three become entangled in a whodunnit wrapped in a Faustian pact, their strange triangle winds tighter and tighter to devastating effect for all those caught in the deadly web of blackmail and betrayal.

Tell it like it is... He gets up real early on his mornin drive. Down to the office for his 9 to 5. He drives a 94, 2 ton, economy car. Loves to tell the local bands down at the bar that he's The Critic. Yea, I can hook you up, I know everybody, in the business. He flunked junior high band he couldn't march in time. He tried to write a song once, he couldn't make it rhyme. He went two or three chords on a pawn shop guitar, he just never quite had what it took to be a star, so he's a critic. I work for the Gazette man...I got a real job. He did a 5-star column on a band he never heard. He did a bluegrass review about an unkind word. He thought it was time to ask his boss for a raise, his boss said I can't even tell if anybody's even readin your page. Yea... So he thought...and he thought a little more. He caught a young hot star headin into town, and then he hid behind his typewriter and gunned the boy down. Here come the letters, the e-mails, the faxes, they raised him to 20,000 dollars after taxes. He's a happy critic... He's rollin in the dough... Man I could do this forever...this is easy. Everybody's readin my column! Please don't tell my mom, that I write the music column for the Gazette. She still thinks I play piano down at the Cathouse. Let's get funky with this now boys...Play it on out. Come on Shannon. There's ole Biff jumpin in. ?? is layin it down. Come on Shannon. Aww yea, my man Steve. Man my fingers are gettin tired...y'all gonna have to hurry. This snappin thing...wearin me out. Hello Shannon. Guess he's on coffee break man. They're gonna love you...cause they already love me. (Yea!)
