Luxor (/ˈlʌk.sɔːr/ or /ˈlʊk.sɔːr/;Arabic:الأقصرal-Uqṣur; Egyptian Arabic: Loʔṣor IPA:[ˈloʔsˤoɾ]; Sa'idi Arabic: Logṣor[ˈloɡsˤor], Coptic: ⲛⲏ) is a city in Upper (southern) Egypt and the capital of Luxor Governorate. The population numbers 487,896 (2010 estimate), with an area of approximately 416 square kilometres (161sqmi). As the site of the Ancient Egyptian city of Thebes, Luxor has frequently been characterized as the "world's greatest open-air museum", as the ruins of the temple complexes at Karnak and Luxor stand within the modern city. Immediately opposite, across the River Nile, lie the monuments, temples and tombs of the West Bank Necropolis, which includes the Valley of the Kings and Valley of the Queens. Thousands of tourists from all around the world arrive annually to visit these monuments, contributing greatly to the economy of the modern city.
Etymology
The name Luxor comes from the Arabic al-quṣūr (القصور), lit. "the palaces," from the pl. of qaṣr (قصر), which is a loanword from the Latincastrum "fortified camp". (Compare Alcázar of Seville)
Luxor is a game and series of tile-matching action puzzle video games, developed by MumboJumbo, with the initial release in 2005. The first sequel to this game was Luxor 2, which was released in 2006 and included new gameplay, levels and bonus. After that came Luxor 3, which featured seven gameplay modes and improved graphics. It was followed by Luxor: Quest for the Afterlife.
Gameplay
Luxor’s gameplay is similar to the games Marble Lines, Puzz Loop, and Zuma, in that it challenges the user to eliminate colored magical spheres by causing three or more spheres of the same color to collide. Players do this primarily by shooting additional spheres from a falcon which they guide back and forth along the bottom of the screen. When spheres are eliminated, nearby spheres which now form a segment of three or more of the same color will also explode in a chain reaction.
During gameplay, the on-screen spheres continuously move forward, pushed themselves by additional small scarabs. If any sphere reaches the player's pyramid, he or she loses a life and is forced to restart the level. If the player succeeds in eliminating a certain number of spheres without this occurring, new spheres cease to arrive and the level can be completed by removing those which remain.
Luxor is an open-source XML UI Language (XUL) toolkit in Java that lets you build desktop apps using markup (XML) and scripting. Luxor also includes a web server, a portal engine (supporting RSS), a template engine (Velocity) and more.
Luxor implementation is independent of the Mozilla codebase, though they implement largely the same specification of XUL.

Egypt: Luxor, the Temple and the Museum
Luxor, the capital of Upper Egypt, offers some unmissable wonders The Temple of Amun in Luxor, or Southern Opet, is dedicated to the worship of Amun. The entrance to the temple was built by Pharaoh Ramses 2 in the 13th century BC. In front of the towers, he had 6 statues representing him placed. The sanctuary itself, the residence of Amun, with its Hypostyle hall, have kept a good part of their slab cover.

Over the centuries, the temple was forgotten and became buried under almost 40 feet of sand and silt from the Nile, and lo...

Edfu Temple: Cruising up the Nile River from Aswan, we make one final, early morning stop before we’re scheduled to reach Luxor this afternoon. This is the Temple of Edfu. One of the best preserved shrines in all of Egypt.
So many stories and pharaohs and gods, it’ll make your head spin, but the biggest thing to remember is that this place is primarily dedicated to the Egyptian God Horus and Egyptian Goddess Hathor; two of the most significant deities of Ancient Egypt.
Over the centuries, the temple was forgotten and became buried under almost 40 feet of sand and silt from the Nile, and locals even built their homes over the submerged temple grounds. How this place could have ever been taken fore-granted, blows my mind.
Nile River Cruise: Back onboard, we continue upstream and pass through the river’s lock system. Which apparently is the perfect place to do your souvenir shopping. Once we’re in the clear, it’s smooth sailing the rest of the way up to Luxor.
Karnak Temples: As our cruise ship docks along the Nile in Luxor, we end our time on the water and immediately set out to discover why people characterize this city as the “world’s greatest open-air museum.”
Karnak Temple or simple Karnak is said to be the second most visited site in Egypt behind the Pyramids in Giza. The key difference between Karnak and most of the other temples and sites in Egypt is the length of time it was developed and used.
30 different pharaohs contributed to the buildings, enabling it to reach such a size, complexity, and diversity not seen elsewhere.
And then right down the Spinx Avenue from Karnak is the world famous Luxor Temple.
Luxor Temple: Unlike the other temples, Luxor Temple is not dedicated to a specific god or pharaoh in death, instead, it is dedicated to the rejuvenation of kingship - basically an important place where kings were crowned. Alexander the Great even claims he was crowned here.
Kids, skip school and come to Luxor. it’s a history book in real-life.
Habu Temple: Last but certainly not least, my personal favorite of three… Habu Temple
Back across the river, on the West Bank of the Nile rests the grounds of Medinet Habu or the city of Habu. An expansive complex that was built by Ramses III and dedicated to the Egyptian God, Amun; and this place has so many incredible features.
Truthfully, we could go on and on about the fascinating aspects of this place, from it’s abnormally deep carvings to the ceremonies performed here, but at the risk of overwhelming you with temple footage, we press on.
Valley of Kings: Long story short, Many Egyptian Kings and powerful nobles of the New Kingdom had the same big dream; to be buried at the Pyramids of Giza; as the pyramids are 2,000 years older than this site. When that wasn’t possible, they found the next best thing, to be buried here, under the rocks shaped like a pyramid on the West bank of the Nile For the next 500 years or so, that’s exactly what they did.
Luxor, Egypt Nightlife: After a full-on day dedicated to the ditties and death, we were in much need of some modern life, so for our last night in Luxor, we decide to just hit the streets on our own, and see what we can get into…
