The Bride of Lammermoor is a historical novel by Sir Walter Scott, published in 1819. The novel is set in the Lammermuir Hills of south-east Scotland, and tells of a tragic love affair between young Lucy Ashton and her family's enemy Edgar Ravenswood. Scott indicated the plot was based on an actual incident. The Bride of Lammermoor and A Legend of Montrose were published together as the third of Scott's Tales of My Landlord series. As with all the Waverley Novels, The Bride of Lammermuir was published anonymously. The novel claims that the story was an oral tradition, collected by one "Peter Pattieson", and subsequently published by "Jedediah Cleishbotham". The 1830 "Waverley edition" includes an introduction by Scott, discussing his actual sources. The later edition also changes the date of the events: the first edition sets the story in the 17th century; the 1830 edition sets it in the reign of Queen Anne, after the 1707 Acts of Union which joined Scotland and England. The story is the basis for Donizetti's 1835 opera Lucia di Lammermoor.
Julie Garwood (born in Kansas City, Missouri) is an American writer of over twenty-seven romance novels in both the historical and suspense subgenres. Over thirty-five million copies of her books are in print, and she has had at least 24 New York Times Bestsellers. She has also written a novel for young adults called A Girl Named Summer.
Garwood's novel For the Roses was adapted for the television feature Rose Hill.
Biography
Julie Garwood was raised in Kansas City, Missouri, the sixth of seven children in a large Irish family. She has five sisters: Sharon, Kathleen, Marilyn, Mary Colette "Cookie", and Joanne, and one brother: Tom. After having a tonsillectomy at age six, because she missed so much school, she did not learn to read as the other children her age did. She was eleven before her mother realized Garwood was unable to read. A math teacher, Sister Elizabeth, devoted the entire summer that year to teaching Garwood how to read, and how to enjoy the stories she was reading. This teacher had such an impact on Garwood's life that she named her daughter Elizabeth.
Leonardo, The Groom and The Bride have been an inseparable triangle since they were kids, but Leonardo and The Bride possess an invisible, ferocious, unbreakable thread. The years go by and she, in anguish, is getting prepared for her wedding with The Groom in the middle of the white desert where she lives with her father. The day before the ceremony, a beggar knocks her door and offer hers a present and a piece of advice: "Don't get married if you don't love him", while she gives her two crystal daggers. The Bride's body shudders.

The day's finally here, There's flowers everywhere. The guests are waitin' with sweet anticipation. As I look down the aisle, The preacher stops an' smiles. Church bells are ringin' an' the organ is playin'. I'm so overcome that I could cry. I'm so happy I'm not the bride. She's such a pretty thing, She don't know anythin'... Ain't gonna tell her that she's outta her mind. The preacher asks the question... No, I got no objection. I do, I do; I want him out of my life. Throw the rice an' let those white doves fly... Oh, happy day... I'm not the bride. Eat some more cake, Throw the bouquet, Pass the champagne, it's time to celebrate. I'm gonna dance this night away, Whoa, whoa, yeah. The groom is gettin' loud, His new wife starts to shout. Oh, this is perfect, it can only get better. They're fightin' in the car, off to a real good start. His momma's cryin'. Aren't they lovely together? They're drivin' away, we're wavin' goodbye. Close call, relax, Amen, Hallelujah, By the grace of God go I... I'm not the bride. Well, I'm not the bride. I'm free, I'm free, I'm free. I'm not the bride. Thank God! Goodbye now. Good luck girl. You're gonna need it. Ha, ha, ha.
