On 19 July 2010, Seven Network has purchased the format rights to produce the Australian series. The first two series of the show was produced by activeTV in association with ABC Studios. The third series is to be produced in-house by the Seven Network. It is distributed by Disney Media Distribution Asia Pacific. The host for the show is New Zealand-born actor Grant Bowler.

The Race
The Amazing Race Australia is a reality television competition between teams of two in a race around the world. Production
Filming and Development
On 17 July 2011, the Seven Network announced that the show was renewed for a second series.
Filming began on 18 November 2011 at the Royal Botanical Gardens in Sydney. The race travelled across four continents, 9 countries and 17 cities and was over 65,000 kilometres (40,000mi) long. This series marked a first time visit by a Eurasian or Australian edition of the franchise to North America, although the first series of the Latin American version was the first, including an Amazing Race first time visit to the nation of Cuba; the United States embargo against Cuba prevents the original American edition from visiting the island but Obama's Administration is pushing for flights to Cuba. This is also the first version outside of the American edition to circumnavigate the globe.

During the Vietnam leg, all route markers were coloured yellow and green instead of yellow and red. This was done to avoid confusion with the former South Vietnamese national flag, which is also yellow and red. The route markers for the Vietnam leg were similar to those used in A Corrida Milionária, the Brazilian version of the race.
On 17 October 2005, CBS gave other countries the chance to franchise The Amazing Race. The Asian cable TV network AXN Asia was among the first to acquire the rights to produce a version for its territories. The show is produced by Australian television production company ActiveTV, for AXN, in association with Buena Vista International Television-Asia Pacific (BVITV-AP). The host for the show is Singapore based Chinese-American actor Allan Wu.
The ultimate prize is US$100,000, whilst the American show gives away US$1,000,000. The general manager of SPE Networks-Asia which runs AXN, Ricky Ow explained the smaller prize, saying, "It is not really about the money but the adventure and opportunity to be in one of the world's greatest reality shows".
