The Alley Cats were a Lomita, California-based punk rocktrio featuring husband-and-wife team Randy Stodola (guitar and vocals) and Dianne Chai (bass and vocals), along with drummer John McCarthy. Originally signed to Dangerhouse Records along with other California-based punk bands including X, The Weirdos, The Avengers, The Dils, and Bags, they released their first single "Nothing Means Nothing Anymore" backed with "Give Me a Little Pain" on March 30, 1978. The band appears in the 1982 film Urgh! A Music War.
Reformed as "The Zarkons", they released two albums, Riders In The Long Black Parade (1985) and Between the Idea & the Reality…Falls the Shadow (1988), before disbanding in 1988.
Reformed recently by frontman Randy Stodola, The Alley Cats now feature Apryl Cady on Bass and Matt Laskey on Drums. San Pedro-based they perform regularly.
The Alley is a restaurant and piano bar located in the Lake Merritt neighborhood of Oakland, California, in the United States. It is known for its nightly singing by patrons who take the microphone accompanied live by veteran pianist Rod Dibble, who also sings.
History
The Alley is one of the last remaining Oakland piano bars. It was founded in 1933. Most of the previous piano bars closed upwards of thirty years ago. The bar looks like a saloon or 1920s alleyway with wood shingles and windows in the interior. Writer Kimberly Chun has described the interior as being designed by "a drunken Walt Disney". It has booths throughout it similar to those found at a diner. Approximately 40,000 to 50,000 business cards from visitors are displayed all over the walls, attached with staples. Business cards from Jerry Brown and Gregg Allman can be found. Dinner, which is served nightly, focuses on American cuisine such as steaks and burgers. An average steak dinner costs around $10. A piano is located past the main bar surrounded by a lacquered wood bar. Twelve seats sit at the bar and a pianist sits on the far end. Songbooks and microphones also rest on the bar. They primarily play songs from the Great American Songbook.
The Alley Cats were a musical group active in 1960s. One of their releases saw moderate airplay and chart action.
Brice Coefield and Sheridan Spencer belonged to a group named "The Untouchables" who had released unsuccessful singles for the Madison and Liberty labels. At the end of 1962, these two joined with James Barker and Gary Pipkin, who had been with The Robins, and lead singer Bobby Sheen, who was coming off success with Bob B. Soxx & the Blue Jeans, to form The Alley Cats, the brainchild of Lou Adler. The group was based out of Los Angeles.Lou Adler brought this combination to Philles Records, although Adler was soon to feel antagonism from Phil Spector because of this group.
Their first record was their most popular. Puddin N' Tain, a song based upon a children's playground change, entered the charts January 1963 and achieved a chart position of 43 in the United States when released on Philles Records 45rpm #108. The group released no follow-up record for Philles, but in 1965 they released a single for Epic Records.
The group originated in 1987, when a doo-wop revival program was occurring at Fullerton College. Two men, also the group's future founding fathers, Mando Fonseca and Royce "The Voice" Reynolds, decided to start an a cappella group. Two additional members along the way, Todd Dixon and Andre Peek, materialized and the foursome gained notice. Since then The Alley Cats have performed for many audiences, ranging from elementary school fun nights to The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, as well as opening for Leno at his Las Vegas shows. The Alley Cats's sound has been heard as well at The White House.
The Alley Cats have won two Contemporary A Cappella Society awards: one for best album (The Doo-Wop Drive-In Live) and one for best song ("What's Your Name").

The original version of this video I found was missing the beginning... It had audio, just no video. Other parts of the video were damaged as well, so I added photos where appropriate, left the original audio (as it was decent enough), and ended up with this completed product.
