Texas Tower 3 (ADC ID: TT-3) is a former United States Air ForceTexas Tower General Surveillance Radar station. 50 miles (80km) southeast of the coast of Nantucket, Massachusetts in 80 feet of water. The tower was closed in 1963 and dismantled.
Located on Georges Bank, Texas Tower 3 was one in a series of manned radar stations that were so named because they resembled the oil-drilling platforms of the Gulf of Mexico. Air Defense Command (ADC) estimated that the Texas Towers would help extend contiguous East Coast radar coverage some 300 to 500 miles seaward. In terms of Soviet military capabilities, this would provide the United States with an extra 30 minutes of warning time in the event of an incoming bomber attack.
History
Texas Tower 3 began construction in 1956 at the Fore River Shipyard in Quincy, Massachusetts. On 7 August 1956, it was successfully floated and towed to its site and erected. Beginning in November 1956 enough of the structure was complete that one AN/FPS-3 search radar and two AN/FPS-6 height finder radars developed by Air Force Rome Air Development Center [RADC] New York, were installed.
Texas Tower 2 (ADC ID: TT-2) is a former United States Air ForceTexas Tower General Surveillance Radar station. It was located 110 miles (180km) east of Cape Cod, Massachusetts in 56 feet of water. The tower was closed in 1963 and dismantled.

In terms of Soviet military capabilities, this would provide the United States with an extra 30 minutes of warning time in the event of an incoming bomber attack.
History
Texas Tower 2 began construction in 1955 at Fore River Shipyard in Quincy, Massachusetts. In June 1955, it was successfully floated and towed to its site east of Cape Cod. Beginning in December 1955 enough of the structure was complete that one AN/FPS-3 search radar and two AN/FPS-6 height finder radars developed by Air Force Rome Air Development Center [RADC] New York, were installed.
Texas Tower 5 was a planned Texas Tower that was to be located on Brown's Bank, 35 nautical miles (65km; 40mi) south of the coast of Nova Scotia in 84 feet (26m) of water. The 4604th Support Group was supposed to be located at Pease Air Force Base, New Hampshire. The United States Air Force approved the construction of Tower#5 on January11, 1954, but the tower was never built because of improvements to radar over the area.
Houston is the largest city in Texas and the fourth-largest in the United States, while San Antonio is the second largest in the state and seventh largest in the United States. Dallas–Fort Worth and Greater Houston are the fourth and fifth largest United States metropolitan statistical areas, respectively. Other major cities include Austin (the state capital) and El Paso. Texas is nicknamed the Lone Star State to signify Texas as a former independent republic, and as a reminder of the state's struggle for independence from Mexico. The "Lone Star" can be found on the Texan state flag and on the Texan state seal. The origin of the state name, Texas, is from the word, "Tejas", which means 'friends' in the Caddo language.
The Texas was built in October 1856 for the Western & Atlantic Railroad by locomotive manufacturer Danforth, Cooke and Company in Paterson, New Jersey. It was subsequently shipped from Paterson to the Port of Savannah, traveled the Georgia Rail Road & Banking Company and Macon & Western Railroad, before finally being delivered to the W&A headquarters in Atlanta that same year.
Texas Homecare was a chain of DIY stores in the United Kingdom and Ireland, that operated from 1972 until 1999.
History
Texas Homecare was established in 1972, by Manny, Sydney and Gerald Fogel, who had previously founded the high street specialist paint and wallpaper chain Home Charm. Taking their lead from America, they revolutionised the United Kingdom DIY market, with the introduction of the 'DIY shed' style outlet. Mervyn Fogel, co-founder and managing director for over 25 years, had a vision of turning the small family business into a DIY retail empire.
Texas specialised in higher volume, lower margin DIY products. The company had been adversely affected, by a recession and depressed housing market.
Acquisition
With its acquisition, Homebase hoped to hold around 10% of the total DIY market in the United Kingdom. In May 1995, it was announced that only 26 Texas stores were to close, with limited redundancies. Sainsbury's found that full conversion to the Homebase format was an investment worth making, and allowed £50million for the task.

On January 15, 1961, a radar tower collapsed into the Atlantic Ocean off the New Jersey coast. All 28 men aboard perished.
