Tekirdağ Province (Turkish:Tekirdağ ili , pronounced[teˈkiɾdaː]) is in East Thrace, the European part of northwestern Turkey.
Agriculture
The province of Tekirdağ is Turkey's one of the most important regions for viticulture and winemaking. The coastline between Tekirdağ and Şarköy, particularly Mürefte, are notable centers of wineyards. 22 of the 27 villages of Şarköy grow grape and produce wine. There are well-known wine producers in the region, including "Doluca", "Gülor", "Kutman", "Bağcı" and "Latif Aral". Other wine producers of the region are "Melen" in Hoşköy, Şarköy and "Umurbey" in Tekirdağ.
Tekirdağ (pronounced[tekiɾdaɣ]; see also its other names), is a city in Turkey. It is a part of the region historically known as Eastern Thrace. Tekirdağ is the capital of Tekirdağ Province. The city population as of 2009 was 140,535. There are honorary consulates of Hungary and Bulgaria in Tekirdağ.
Name
Tekirdağ was called Bisanthe or Bysanthe (Greek:Βισάνθη/Βυσάνθη), and also Rhaedestus (Ῥαίδεστος) in classical antiquity. The latter name was used till the Byzantine era, transformed to Rodosçuk after it fell to the Ottomans in the 14th century (in western languages usually rendered as Rodosto). After the 18th century it was called Tekfurdağı, based on the Turkish word tekfur, meaning "Byzantine lord". In time, the name mutated into the Turkish Tekirdağ, and this became the official name under the Turkish Republic. The historical name "Rhaedestos" (transcribed also as Raidestos) was continuously used till today in Greek Orthodox ecclesiastical context (e.g. Bishop of Raidestos, Metropolitanate of Heraclia and Raidestos (18th-19th centuries).
Population reviews of each electoral district are conducted before each general election, which can lead to certain districts being granted a smaller or greater number of parliamentary seats. The number of seats allocated to Tekirdağ has hovered between four and six for the past sixty years.
Turkish Airlines Flight 1951 (also known as the Poldercrash) was a passenger flight that crashed during landing at the Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, Netherlands, on 25 February 2009, resulting in the death of nine passengers and crew including all three pilots.
The aircraft, a Turkish AirlinesBoeing 737-800, crashed into a field approximately 1.5 kilometres (0.93mi) north of the Polderbaan runway, (18R), prior to crossing the A9 motorway inbound, at 9:31 UTC (10:31 CET), having flown from Istanbul, Turkey. The aircraft broke into three pieces on impact. The wreckage did not catch fire.
The crash was caused primarily by the aircraft's automated reaction which was triggered by a faulty radio altimeter. This caused the autothrottle to decrease the engine power to idle during approach. The crew noticed this too late to take appropriate action to increase the thrust and recover the aircraft before it stalled and crashed. Boeing has since issued a bulletin to remind pilots of all 737 series and BBJ aircraft of the importance of monitoring airspeed and altitude, advising against the use of autopilot or autothrottle while landing in cases of radio altimeter discrepancies.

Çerkezköy Organized Industrial Zone started to operate in 1973 and started to operate factories. As the factories increased, migrations started to Kapaklı from surrounding provinces and provinces and also from every province of Turkey and Kapaklı's population increased.

Founder Mayor Recep Güven served as Mayor in 1986- 1989, Şemsettin Dubaz in 1989-1994, Enver Özel in 1994-1999, for Kapaklı Şemsettin Dubaz Municipality between in 1999-2004. Irfan Mandali, who was elected Mayor in 2004, was elected as the president again in the local elections held in 2009 and 2014 and is still in office. With the law no. 6360 dated 06.12.2012, Uzunhacı, Karlıköy, Bahçeağıl, Yanıkağıl, Pinarca villagers and Karaağaç township bound to Çerkezköy have been connected to the county.
