Biosphere
The biosphere is the global sum of all ecosystems. It can also be termed as the zone of life on Earth, a closed system (apart from solar and cosmic radiator and heat from the interior of the Earth), and largely self-regulating. By the most general biophysiological definition, the biosphere is the global ecological system integrating all living beings and their relationships, including their interaction with the elements of the lithosphere, geosphere, hydrosphere, and atmosphere. The biosphere is postulated to have evolved, beginning with a process of biopoesis (life created naturally from non-living matter such as simple organic compounds) or biogenesis (life created from living matter), at least some 3.5 billion years ago. The earliest evidence for life on Earth includes biogenic graphite found in 3.7 billion-year-old metasedimentary rocks from Western Greenland and microbial mat fossils found in 3.48 billion-year-old sandstone from Western Australia. More recently, in 2015, "remains of biotic life" were found in 4.1 billion-year-old rocks in Western Australia. According to one of the researchers, "If life arose relatively quickly on Earth ... then it could be common in the universe."

Biosphere (musician)
Biosphere is the main recording name of Geir Jenssen (born 30, May 1962), a Norwegian musician who has released a notable catalogue of ambient electronic music. He is well known for his works on ambient techno and arctic themed pieces, his use of music loops, and peculiar samples from sci-fi sources. His 1997 album Substrata was voted by the users of the Hyperreal website in 2001 as the best all-time classic ambient album.
History
Prior to Biosphere (1962–1991)
Jenssen was born on May 30, 1962, in Tromsø, a city within the Arctic Circle in the northernmost portion of Norway. He was inspired by the music of artists such as New Order, Depeche Mode, Wire, and Brian Eno, which he described as "like discovering a new universe—a universe which I wanted to be a part of". In 1983, he bought his first synthesizer and composed his first piece of music, taking influence from his archaeological studies, later stating "Studying the Ice Age and Stone Age has definitely influenced my music." In 1984 Jenssen issued his first album, Likvider, released on cassette only and credited to E-man.

Trance
Trance denotes any state of awareness or consciousness other than normal waking consciousness. Trance states may occur involuntarily and unbidden.
The term trance may be associated with hypnosis, meditation, magic, flow, and prayer. It may also be related to the earlier generic term, altered states of consciousness, which is no longer used in "consciousness studies" discourse.
Etymology
Trance in its modern meaning comes from an earlier meaning of "a dazed, half-conscious or insensible condition or state of fear", via the Old French transe "fear of evil", from the Latin transīre "to cross", "pass over". This definition is now obsolete.
Working models
Wier, in his 1995 book, Trance: from magic to technology, defines a simple trance (p. 58) as a state of mind being caused by cognitive loops where a cognitive object (thoughts, images, sounds, intentional actions) repeats long enough to result in various sets of disabled cognitive functions. Wier represents all trances (which include sleep and watching television) as taking place on a dissociated trance plane where at least some cognitive functions such as volition are disabled; as is seen in what is typically termed a 'hypnotic trance'. With this definition, meditation, hypnosis, addictions and charisma are seen as being trance states. In Wier's 2007 book, The Way of Trance, he elaborates on these forms, adds ecstasy as an additional form and discusses the ethical implications of his model, including magic and government use which he terms "trance abuse".

Trance is an album by American jazz pianist and composer Steve Kuhn recorded in 1974 and released on the ECM label.
Reception
The Allmusic review by Thom Jurek awarded the album 4 stars stating "This is jazz that touches on fusion, modal, and the new spirit of the music as ECM came into the 1970s as a player. There is restlessness and calm, tempestuousness and serenity, conflict and resolution, and -- above all -- creativity and vision".

Standing Stone (album)
Standing Stone is Paul McCartney's second full-length release of original classical music (coming after 1991's Liverpool Oratorio) and was issued shortly after Flaming Pie's release in 1997. The world premiere performance was held at The Royal Albert Hall on 14 October 1997.
History
Following up on 1991's Paul McCartney's Liverpool Oratorio, the Standing Stone project was composed out of a long poem McCartney authored and was performed by the London Symphony Orchestra and conducted by Lawrence Foster at EMI's Abbey Road Studios. Unlike Liverpool Oratorio, this new project is not an operatic performance of a story, but an instrumental one, though it employs the use of a choir.
The cover for the album is actually one of the many photos taken by Linda McCartney during late 1969/early 1970 that would initially be seen on the inside gatefold cover of Paul's first album McCartney. Incidentally, this project was her husband's last release before Linda died of breast cancer on 17 April 1998, having been diagnosed almost three years earlier.

Techno
Techno is a form of electronic dance music that emerged in Detroit, Michigan, in the United States during the mid-to-late 1980s. The first recorded use of the word techno in reference to a specific genre of music was in 1988. Many styles of techno now exist, but Detroit techno is seen as the foundation upon which a number of subgenres have been built.
In Detroit techno resulted from the melding of African American music including Chicago house, funk, electro, and electric jazz with electronic music by artists such as Kraftwerk, Giorgio Moroder, and Yellow Magic Orchestra. Added to this is the influence of futuristic and fictional themes relevant to life in American late capitalist society, with Alvin Toffler's book The Third Wave being a notable point of reference. Pioneering producer Juan Atkins cites Toffler's phrase "techno rebels" as inspiring him to use the word techno to describe the musical style he helped to create. This unique blend of influences aligns techno with the aesthetic referred to as afrofuturism. To producers such as Derrick May, the transference of spirit from the body to the machine is often a central preoccupation; essentially an expression of technological spirituality. In this manner: "techno dance music defeats what Adorno saw as the alienating effect of mechanisation on the modern consciousness".

In the desert regions, we have organisms such as cacti and camels which have adapted to the extremely dry and hot conditions.
In the arctic regions, polar bears, penguins, and various species of seals thrive in the cold.
Forests, which can range from tropical rainforests near the equator to boreal forests closer to the poles, host a diverse array of life from towering trees and understory plants to myriad animals such as monkeys, birds, deer, wolves, and countless insects.
The biosphere also spans aquatic regions, both fresh and saltwater. Coral reefs, for instance, are teeming with life - from the corals themselves to the numerous species of fish, crustaceans, and other sea life they host.
Freshwater ecosystems, like lakes and rivers, are home to fish, amphibians, waterfowl, and many types of invertebrates.
The biosphere interacts with the other spheres in numerous ways. Plants grow in soil (part of the geosphere). They take up carbon dioxide (part of the atmosphere), and require water (part f the hydrosphere) to photosynthesize. Animals breathe in oxygen from the atmosphere and drink water from the hydrosphere. The geosphere and hydrosphere also provide habitats to a great diversity of organisms.
The essential interplay between the biosphere and the other spheres is key to sustaining life on Earth. The interdependence of all these spheres illustrates the remarkable balance and interconnectivity of our planet.

Hydrosphere and Atmosphere: Water, mostly from oceans, evaporates into the atmosphere as water vapor, then condenses to form clouds, and then falls back to the earth as rain or snow. Snow melts into rivers, and rivers flow back into oceans. This constant cycle shapes our climate, transports minerals across the globe, and provides us fresh water for drinking and farming.
Atmosphere and Geosphere: Magma, which is part of the geosphere, causes volcanic eruptions which expel gases and ash into the atmosphere. The volcanic ash in the atmosphere can reflect sunlight away from the earth and can sometimes have a global cooling effect, but volcanoes also release carbon dioxide which can raise global temperatures. Volcanic activity is thought to have caused and ended ice ages in earth’s history. The atmosphere also shapes the geosphere through wind erosion. Winds erode dunes and transport sand from one place to another, and over time even make grooves and hollows in rocks, although far slower than water.

Their custom biosphere is outfitted with basic necessities and creature comforts that make it possible to retain a sense of what life used to be like. A hydroponic garden provides fresh vegetables and a carefully managed fishpond supplies essential protein. Recently, however, fish have begun dying at an alarming rate. With a mere three fish remaining, Billy and Ray face an ominous future. But life may yet find a way.

The Earth system is made up of four interconnected components, commonly referred to as "spheres" - the geosphere (solid earth), hydrosphere (water), atmosphere (air), and biosphere (life). Each of these spheres interacts with the others, shaping the environment we inhabit.
The biosphere is all about life. It encompasses all regions of the Earth where life exists - from the deepest parts of the ocean, to the highest mountains, from the chilliest arctic regions to the hottest deserts, and everything in between. The biosphere encompasses all forms of life on Earth. This includes not just animals and plants, but also fungi, bacteria, and various other microorganisms that might not be visible to the naked eye.
In the desert regions, we have organisms such as cacti and camels which have adapted to the extremely dry and hot conditions.
In the arctic regions, polar bears, penguins, and various species of seals thrive in the cold.
Forests, which can range from tropical rainforests near the equator to boreal forests closer to the poles, host a diverse array of life from towering trees and understory plants to myriad animals such as monkeys, birds, deer, wolves, and countless insects.
The biosphere also spans aquatic regions, both fresh and saltwater. Coral reefs, for instance, are teeming with life - from the corals themselves to the numerous species of fish, crustaceans, and other sea life they host.
Freshwater ecosystems, like lakes and rivers, are home to fish, amphibians, waterfowl, and many types of invertebrates.
The biosphere interacts with the other spheres in numerous ways. Plants grow in soil (part of the geosphere). They take up carbon dioxide (part of the atmosphere), and require water (part f the hydrosphere) to photosynthesize. Animals breathe in oxygen from the atmosphere and drink water from the hydrosphere. The geosphere and hydrosphere also provide habitats to a great diversity of organisms.
The essential interplay between the biosphere and the other spheres is key to sustaining life on Earth. The interdependence of all these spheres illustrates the remarkable balance and interconnectivity of our planet.

Learn about the earth's four spheres – the atmosphere, the hydrosphere, the biosphere, and the geosphere (also called the lithosphere), and how these 4 spheres interact with one another to shape the natural world as we know it.
The geosphere is the outermost solid layer of the earth, made up of the crust and the top part of the mantle. The atmosphere is the layer of gases that surround the earth. It’s the air that animals like you and me breathe, and that plants use for photosynthesis. The hydrosphere contains all of the water on earth in liquid, solid, and vapor form. And finally, the biosphere makes up all of the living things on earth. Plants, animals like me, humans and even tiny bacteria and viruses are all part of the biosphere!
Hydrosphere and Geosphere: The hydrosphere shapes the geosphere through erosion and creates features like caves and waterfalls. When large volcanoes erupt underwater, the water cools the lava and solidifies it. The lava rock builds up over time and sometimes emerges out of the water to form islands!
Hydrosphere and Biosphere: Living beings in the biosphere need water to live. Plant roots absorb water for photosynthesis to create energy, and the water also helps transfer nutrients from the soil to the plants. Animals like Elly need water to live. Humans use water for not just drinking, but also cleaning, farming, cooking, in industry, and many other uses.
Hydrosphere and Atmosphere: Water, mostly from oceans, evaporates into the atmosphere as water vapor, then condenses to form clouds, and then falls back to the earth as rain or snow. Snow melts into rivers, and rivers flow back into oceans. This constant cycle shapes our climate, transports minerals across the globe, and provides us fresh water for drinking and farming.
Atmosphere and Geosphere: Magma, which is part of the geosphere, causes volcanic eruptions which expel gases and ash into the atmosphere. The volcanic ash in the atmosphere can reflect sunlight away from the earth and can sometimes have a global cooling effect, but volcanoes also release carbon dioxide which can raise global temperatures. Volcanic activity is thought to have caused and ended ice ages in earth’s history. The atmosphere also shapes the geosphere through wind erosion. Winds erode dunes and transport sand from one place to another, and over time even make grooves and hollows in rocks, although far slower than water.
Atmosphere and Biosphere: Living beings need air to live. Animals use oxygen to generate energy and release carbon dioxide, and as we’ve learned, plants use carbon dioxide for photosynthesis and release oxygen into the atmosphere.
Geosphere and Biosphere: Many living beings, including humans, now live on the geosphere. Some live in burrows and caves to stay safe from weather and predators. When plants and animals die, their remains enrich the soil which then helps other plants grow. Humans mine the earth and use elements from the geosphere for a variety of purposes, like iron for weapons and buildings, or gold for decoration and currency.

Billy (Mark Duplass) and Ray (Sterling K. Brown) are lifelong best friends, brothers from another mother – and the last two men on earth. Their survival is largely due to Ray, a brilliant scientist who designed a domed structure with all the systems necessary to sustain life on a planet that could no longer support it. Their custom biosphere is outfitted with basic necessities and creature comforts that make it possible to retain a sense of what life used to be like. A hydroponic garden provides fresh vegetables and a carefully managed fishpond supplies essential protein. Recently, however, fish have begun dying at an alarming rate. With a mere three fish remaining, Billy and Ray face an ominous future. But life may yet find a way.

Biosphere
The biosphere is the global sum of all ecosystems. It can also be termed as the zone of life on Earth, a closed system (apart from solar and cosmic radiator and heat from the interior of the Earth), and largely self-regulating. By the most general biophysiological definition, the biosphere is the global ecological system integrating all living beings and their relationships, including their interaction with the elements of the lithosphere, geosphere, hydrosphere, and atmosphere. The biosphere is postulated to have evolved, beginning with a process of biopoesis (life created naturally from non-living matter such as simple organic compounds) or biogenesis (life created from living matter), at least some 3.5 billion years ago. The earliest evidence for life on Earth includes biogenic graphite found in 3.7 billion-year-old metasedimentary rocks from Western Greenland and microbial mat fossils found in 3.48 billion-year-old sandstone from Western Australia. More recently, in 2015, "remains of biotic life" were found in 4.1 billion-year-old rocks in Western Australia. According to one of the researchers, "If life arose relatively quickly on Earth ... then it could be common in the universe."
