Te Deum - 5th Century Monastic Chant (Solemn)
Monks of the one of the Abbeys of the Solesmes Congregation sing this beautiful chant. The Te Deum is attributed to two Fathers and Doctors of the Church, St. Ambrose and St. Augustine and is one the most majestic chants in the Liturgy of the Church. It is sung in traditional seminaries and monastic houses at the Divine Office and for Double feasts of the First Class, The Nativity, Easter, Corpus Christi, Epiphany, Pentecost and those which have an Octave. The solemn Te Deum is sung on all occasions of public Church rejoicing (in Traditional Catholic Churches)

TE DEUM — Classical gregorian hymn
As we close the year, we want to raise our eyes to the Lord and Master of history so that, even though we find ourselves in dark times, we can praise and thank him with the great "Te Deum," which the Church has been singing since the fourth century. An ancient tradition tells that, when St. Ambrose baptized St. Augustine, they would have sung this song together for the first time. We filmed the video in the Birnau Basilica, considered the "baroque jewel" of our region, Lake of Constance in Germany.

Te Deum Laudamus (with lyrics and translation)
This is the Catholic Church's most famous hymn of thanksgiving. It is similar in meaning to the Gloria in Excelsis Deo, only it is much more elaborate and solemn.
Authorship of the hymn is traditionally ascribed to Saint Ambrose (died 397) or Saint Augustine (died 430). In 19th-century scholarship, Saint Hilary of Poitiers (died 367) and Saint Nicetas of Remesiana (died 414) were proposed as possible authors.

The petitions at the end of the hymn (beginning Salvum fac populum tuum) are a selection of verses from the book of Psalms, appended subsequently to the original hymn.
The hymn follows the outline of the Apostles' Creed, mixing a poetic vision of the heavenly liturgy with its declaration of faith. Calling on the name of God immediately, the hymn proceeds to name all those who praise and venerate God, from the hierarchy of heavenly creatures to those Christian faithful already in heaven to the Church spread throughout the world.
The hymn then returns to its credal formula, naming Christ and recalling his birth, suffering and death, his resurrection and glorification. At this point the hymn turns to the subjects declaiming the praise, both the universal Church and the singer in particular, asking for mercy on past sins, protection from future sin, and the hoped-for reunification with the elect

From its famous, dissonant opening chords, Tosca conjures up a world of political instability and menace. The Chief of Police, Scarpia – one of the most malevolent villains in opera – ruthlessly pursues and tortures enemies of the state. His dark, demonic music contrasts with the expansive melodies of the idealistic lovers, Tosca and Cavaradossi, who express their passion in sublime arias. Giacomo Puccini’s dramatic work was an instant hit with audiences on its 1900 premiere and it remains one of the most performed of all operas.
A candle-lit church, the darkness of a brooding study with its hidden torture chamber and the false optimism of a Roman dawn: Jonathan Kent’s naturalistic production throws into relief the ruthlessly taut drama, as the tension is wound up towards its fateful conclusion. Puccini’s score is infused with the same authentic detail, from distant canon fire during the Act I ‘Te Deum’ to tolling church bells and the sounds of a firing squad.

About the chant:
Te Deum laudamus, (Latin: “God, We Praise You”, )also called Te Deum, Latin hymn to God the Father and Christ the Son, traditionally sung on occasions of public rejoicing. According to legend, it was improvised antiphonally by St. Ambrose and St. Augustine at the latter’s baptism. It has more plausibly been attributed to Nicetas, bishop of Remesiana in the early 5th century, and its present form—equal sections devoted to the Father and Son, a half-clause to the Holy Spirit, followed by a litany—fit in historically with part of the Arian controversy (over the nature of Christ) of the 4th century. Much of the text is composed of traditional statements of belief; and unlike most hymns, it is prose.

With bells and whistles: To mark the 250th anniversary of the death of George Frideric Handel, Howard Arman conducts a bombastic performance of the "Dettingen Te Deum" at the Marktkirche in Halle in the year 2009. Three choirs join forces accompanied by The English Concert and the Händelfestspielorchester – around 200 musicians perform in the chancel of this magnificent church. The "Dettingen Te Deum" (HWV 283) is a Christian song of praise to celebrate the victory of the English over the French at Dettingen in the year 1743.
00:15 We praise Thee, oh God
04:00 All the earth doth worship Thee
06:25 To Thee all angels cry aloud
08:38 To Thee Cherubim and Seraphim
11:45 The glorious company of the Apostles
14:00 Thou art the King of Glory
16:37 When Thou tookest upon Thee to deliver man
20:00 When Thou hadst overcome the sharpness of death
21:50 Thou sittest at the right hand of God
24:53 Sinfonia
25:23 We therefore pray Thee
26:26 Make them to be number'd with Thy Saints
27:42 Day by day we magnify Thee
30:45 Vouchsafe, oh Lord, to keep us this day without sin
32:22 Oh Lord, in Thee have I trusted
The Dettingen Te Deum is a sacred choral work in the tradition of English choral music. Handel wrote a total of five "Te Deum" compositions – this is the last. It was written to give thanks for the victory of King George II's troops at the Battle of Dettingen. The world premiere took place at St James's Palace in London following the King's glorious return in November 1743. The text – a Christian hymn of praise – is derived from the "Book of Common Prayer" from 1662.
George Frideric Handel was born in 1685 in Halle an der Saale and baptized in the Marktkirche or Market Church. After many successful musical years in Germany and Italy, after 1710 he was a regular visitor to London, where he composed many pieces for the royal court. Awarded citizenship in 1727, he's regarded today as Britain's most important and influential composer of the Baroque period. Until his death in the year 1759, he wrote a total of 42 operas and 25 oratorios.
This performance of the "Dettingen Te Deum" in the Marktkirche in Halle took place as part of celebrations to mark the 250th anniversary of the death of the famous Baroque composer George Frideric Handel. The event brought together the MDR Rundfunkchor, the Hallenser Madrigalisten, the Händelfestspielchor and the Halle Opera Chorus. They were accompanied by The English Concert and the Händelfestspielorchester. As well as the "Dettingen Te Deum", the ensembles also repeated the entire program of the "Handel Commemoration Concert", performed in 1784 at London's Westminster Abbey in honor of the great musician, who had died 25 years previously.
