Japan's Amazing Train Station Like "Spirited Away": Shimonada, Takamatsu to Yawatahama
We board the limited express train from Takamatsu to Shimonada Station, which is said to be the model for the station in the Ghibli movie "Spirited Away", a worldwide hit.
Trains arrive only once every two to three hours. The ocean stretches out before your eyes. I thought it was an unmanned station in the countryside, but it turned out to be a major tourist attraction visited by many Instagrammers.
Enjoy!

Japan's sleeper train, the Sunrise Seto. 800 km from Tokyo to Takamatsu!
Travel from Tokyo to Takamatsu on the single-twin of the Sunrise Seto, the only regularly scheduled sleeper express in Japan.
There are only 8 single-twin rooms. The trip from Tokyo to Takamatsu takes approximately 9 hours and 30 minutes.
In Takamatsu, the home of Sanuki udon noodles, we took an "udon taxi" to three famous restaurants.

Takamatsu Walking Tour - Kagawa Japan [4K/HDR/Binaural]
This video starts at Marugamemchi Green Shopping Mall in Takamatsu. There are many shopping streets in this area with Udon restaurants. Kagawa is famous for Udon noodles and hopping one Udon restaurant to another to enjoy the differences is one of the attractions to visit this city. Our goal is the 29th floor on Takamatsu Symbol Tower where you can enjoy the gorgeous view.

Cheapest seats on Japan's only express train with sleeping berths. [Tokyo - Takamatsu]9.5 hours
* Please turn on the subtitle setting and watch.
I tried riding the [Nobinobi seat], the cheapest way to ride the only sleeper limited express Sunrise Izumo/Seto in Japan.
It is a 9.5 hour train journey from Tokyo to Takamatsu in Shikoku.
It was my first time using Nobi Novi seats, but I thought it was more comfortable than I expected, and it was a very cost-effective means of transportation.
Inside the train, I was able to enjoy all the real pleasures of a sleeper train, such as lounges and showers.

I boarded the sleeper limited express "Sunrise Seto" from Takamatsu Station in Kagawa Prefecture to Tokyo Station.
Staying on the train instead of using a hotel.
This time, I enjoyed the premium room "Single Deluxe". There are only 6 rooms per train.

Kagawa is famous for Udon noodles and hopping one Udon restaurant to another to enjoy the differences is one of the attractions to visit this city.

FAQ:
Where are you from? Are you Japanese?
- I am Swedish.
For how long have you lived in Japan?
- I came to Japan in 2008.
Why did you move to Japan?
- I was interested in Japan since I was a child, largely thanks to growing up playing a lot of (Japanese) videogames as well as a brief interest in anime during my teenage years. When I finally came here for the first time I felt that it was a really nice and interesting country, and I decided to do what I could to move here permanently.
How did you get a visa to Japan?
- It's complicated and my case is quite different from most, as I've always been self-employed. But basically, as long as you can show the immigration authorities that you have a stable income, there's usually a way. Personally, I was here on journalist visas until a few years ago when I got married. Now I have a spouse visa.
Do you work in Japan?
- Yes, I'm a photographer. Currently, most of my work is related to tourism and travel in Japan, but I also do portrait photography as well as documentary work. I used to write news stories and articles about Japan as well, mostly for newspapers in Sweden, but for the last 3-4 years, my work has been almost exclusively about photography. Sometimes I appear on TV too.
What camera do you use?
- My live walks are recorded with my phone, a Samsung S21 ultra, mounted on a DJI OM4 Gimbal. 4K videos are mostly shot with an iPhone 12 Pro Max but sometimes also a DJI Osmo Pocket or DJI Pocket 2. For my "real work", I mostly use a Nikon Z7, but I also have a Z6, Fujifilm X-T3, Leica Q, Sony RX1R mk II and Ricoh GR III that comes with me from time to time.
What advice would you give to someone wanting to move to Japan?
- Study, learn a skill that's in demand in Japan. There are plenty of available jobs here. Some knowledge of the Japanese language would also help a lot, not just to get you a job, but also so that you can actually enjoy life while living here as well.
How did you learn Japanese?
- I went to language school in Tokyo for one year in 2010-2011. After that, I've also taken some online courses and studied on my own.
How many languages do you speak?
- Swedish, English and Japanese reasonably well, and also a bit of German, as I lived there before coming to Japan.
Will you make bicycle videos?
- No. Streaming and interacting with my viewers while riding a bike would be too dangerous.
Can you show your face?
- I prefer to keep a bit of privacy here on YouTube, at least for the time being. I do streams exclusive to my Patreon followers from time to time where I show my face though, so if you are really eager to see what I look like, and if you want to support the channel as well, you should consider joining me there. http://www.patreon.com/tokyoexplorer
