Every year, the Tai Po Dragon Boat Race is held in the sea off the park.
Facilities
The park has a wide range of public facilities including rest gardens, sitting-out areas, an insect house, a 1.2 kilometres (0.75mi) promenade along the harbour front, a jogging trail with fitness stations and a 600-seat amphitheatre.
Lookout tower
The lookout tower is 32.4 metres (106ft) high and gives visitors a panoramic view over Tolo Harbour, the Tai Po Industrial Estate and the rugged countryside stretching back to the boundary with mainland China.
The plaques of the lookout tower depict the history of Tai Po, including the struggle with the British army when they originally entered the New Territories, the heroic resistance against the Japanese army during the occupation and prosperity after World War II.

Al Lang Stadium is a stadium in Downtown St. Petersburg, Florida. It is currently the home stadium of the Tampa Bay Rowdies of the North American Soccer League (NASL). Originally a baseball park, first built in 1947, reconstructed in 1976, and renovated in 1998, it was redesigned as a soccer venue in 2011. The facility is named in honor of Al Lang, a former mayor of St. Petersburg who was instrumental in bringing professional baseball to the city in the early twentieth century.
Professional baseball grew throughout the United States at the beginning of the twentieth century, and clubs sought additional facilities to accommodate their spring training. Al Lang, a businessman in St. Petersburg, Florida, saw a huge potential to attract northeastern teams to his city to take advantage of the warm weather during the early months of the year. Lang and city officials created an incentives package that covered teams' travel expenses and other amenities, which drew in the city's first spring training tenant, the St. Louis Browns, in 1914. The club trained at Coffee Pot Park, a small ballpark located beside Coffee Pot bayou about a mile north of the current site of Al Lang Stadium. Subsequently, other Major League Baseball clubs such as the Philadelphia Phillies and the New York Yankees came to St. Petersburg for spring training, and Lang continued promoting the city when he was elected Mayor of St. Petersburg in 1916. After his term, Lang devoted his life to building a successful connection between Florida and baseball, and was instrumental in marketing St. Petersburg as a desirable sports site.
Waterfront Park is a twelve-acre (5 ha) park along approximately one-half mile of the Cooper River in Charleston, South Carolina. The park received the 2007 Landmark Award from the American Society of Landscape Architects and the National Trust for Historic Preservation. This award "recognizes a distinguished landscape architecture project completed between 15 and 50 years ago that retains its original design integrity and contributes significantly to the public realm of the community in which it is located."
History
The location of the park, between Vendue Range to the north and Adger's Wharf to the south, had historically been a center of maritime traffic with several wharfs and shipping terminals. The area entered a long period of decline, capped in June 1955 by a fire at a steamship terminal at the site. By 1980, the site was an "overgrown area marred by charred pilings and gravel parking lots."
Mayor Joseph P. Riley, Jr. began making plans for a park on the site soon after taking office in 1975. Acquisition of land began in 1979, and after more than a decade of planning, fund-raising and clearing environmental hurdles, the parks department and Ruscon Construction Co. broke ground in 1988. Work on the $13 million park progressed into 1989, and a target opening date was set for May 4, 1990. In September 1989, Hurricane Hugo struck, causing about $1 million of damage to the park. Nevertheless, the park opened on May 11, just one week past the pre-hurricane projection.
Both market towns became part of the Tai Po New Town in the late 1970s and early 1980s. In present-day usage, "Tai Po" may refer to the area around the original market towns, the Tai Po Town (Chinese:大埔市), or the entire Tai Po District.
It is becoming a popular suburb of Hong Kong and also for people working in Shenzhen. There are a mixture of public housing complexes in the densely populated area of Tai Po plus many expensive high-end private properties in the sparsely populated area surrounding Tai Po.
... Po to watch dragon boat races ... In Tai Po, about 1,600 competitors from 69 teams took part in the races, amid a carnival featuring game booths, food stalls and workshops at the Tai Po WaterfrontPark.
