Swan Lake (Ktunaxa: nasuq̓ut̕ ) is a lake located east of Flathead Lake and the town of Bigfork, Montana. The Swan River comes from the south and fills the lake. The lake is similar to Moyie Lake in southern British Columbia. It is a narrow, small, and twisty lake that is hard to navigate. There is a small divide that separates the Swan River Valley from the Clearwater River Valley. The Clearwater River flows south through a series of lakes, including Seeley Lake and empties into the Blackfoot River. The two valleys are known locally as the Seeley/Swan. Swan Lake runs parallel to Montana Highway 83.
The Swan Lake Area is host to numerous campsites including areas right along the lake. Swan Lake is also home to many lakeside homes.
Swan Lake (Tlingit: X̱'wáat' Héen Áakʼu), is a small lake located in the center of the town of Sitka, in Alaska. It is a man-made lake, created during the Russian occupation of Alaska as an income source during the winter. Russians would export ice to southern communities in the Pacific Northwest.
Swan Lake, South Dakota is a small natural lake located north-northwest of the city of Viborg, South Dakota. The lake is surrounded by cabins and is used for recreational purposes.
History
Swan Lake because it is shaped like a swan. From the 1920s until the late 1970s there was a resort at Swan Lake on the south side of the lake. It included a pavilion that sold food and it had a band stand, dance floor and roller skating rink on the same floor. Cabins were rented out and bands performed at the pavilion. There was a bath house to rent swim suits, several boats for rent and bait could also be bought. The pavilion was built after WWI and owned by the Ebersen family. On 2/1/1921 the pavilion was purchased by Peter N. Hansen and his wife Claudine whose children Erna, Art, Lorna, and Earl grew up on the resort. They owned it until about 1946. Some other owners of the Swan Lake Resort over the years were a Bill and Mary Myreholt and Waldo and Marilyn Jorgensen. The cabins were sold to individuals during the 60's and 70's. The pavilion burned down around 1979. Today there is a place called the Shore Store on the east side of the lake. The Shore Store is now for sale by owner and appears to be closed.

Camping at SWAN Lake | Coffee, Breakfast, and The Sprunger-Whitney Nature Trail
Grab your bathing suit and let's head to the lake! My friend got a spot at Swan Lake Campground and I met him for a fun camping weekend. During the trip, I enjoyed early morning sunrises on the dock and taking my time to make some yummy breakfast! I am experimenting with sort of slow/classical music to moments in nature - let me know if you like it!
I took my favorite camping and hiking coffee, Alpine Start, to fuel my weekend adventures. I made some delicious camp breakfast tacos with eggs, corn tortillas, tomatoes, and cilantro. I also shared my secrets for car camping and staying cool in the head, including homemade bug nets for my car.
The second day of the trip we we headed to The Sprunger-Whitney Nature Trail and learned about local natural flora and fauna. The Sprunger-Whitney Nat...

The second day of the trip we we headed to The Sprunger-Whitney Nature Trail and learned about local natural flora and fauna. The Sprunger-Whitney Nature Trail is an interpretive, non-motorized hiking trail built by Friends of the Wild Swan on leased Montana state school trust lands. The loop trail is 2.1 miles. Interpretive signs identify plants and the special features of this old-growth forest. Low elevation old-growth forests are increasingly rare because logging and development has generally occurred in them but they provide habitat which is vital for moose, elk, bear and many other animals and birds. The trail is named after Elmer Sprunger and Jack Whitney, two long-time residents and conservationists in the Swan Valley.
The lease is paid and the trail is maintained with grants and individual contributions. If you would like to help support this trail please send your tax-deductible contribution to Friends of the Wild Swan, PO Box 103, Bigfork, MT 59911. Overall it was a fun weekend - please stick with me as I learn more about video and storytelling!
