Split is the second album by Britishshoegazing act Lush, released on 4AD on June 13, 1994 in the UK and a day later in the US. Two singles were released from the album: "Desire Lines" and "Hypocrite," both released on May 30, 1994. Split was reissued by 4AD on CD in July 2001.
Reception
Select gave the album a negative review of two out of five. The review described the album as "mid-paced stuff, fitting between melancholy and listlessness."
"There's nothing wrong with a dose of heavyweight introspection per se. But a pretty deft touch is needed to translate it movingly to the recording studio."
Andy Kellman, writing for Allmusic, was far more positive, giving the album 4.5 stars out of five:
"Split touches on most forms of emotional turbulence. A legitimizing stunner, the record prevented the band from being lost amidst the bunker of form-over-function dream pop bands. Split shattered every negative aspect of those failed acts with flying colors. A fantastic record within any realm."
Sun is the second stand-alone production album created by Thomas J. Bergersen from Two Steps from Hell, released on September 30, 2014. The release contains 16 tracks, featuring vocal performances by Merethe Soltvedt, Molly Conole and other vocalists. The album cover and artwork are designed by Bergersen himself. The album was announced for pre-order on September 9 across iTunes, Amazon, and CD Baby, with the tracks "Empire of Angels," "Final Frontier," and "Starchild" made available on iTunes prior to the full release. In addition, a signed limited deluxe edition CD version has been scheduled for somewhere in 2015, set to include additional music, notes on each track written by Thomas, and a large-size poster featuring his artwork.
Track listing
Use in media
The tracks from Two Steps from Hell are frequently used in film trailers and other promotional materials.
Final Frontier was used in the third trailer for Interstellar.
Creation of Earth was used in the third trailer for Tomorrowland.
The band was notable for the vocals of Joan Jones, the guitar riffs of David Russo, clever song-writing, and an eclectic combination of styles, including folk, alt rock, pop, and blues.
Despite a cult following, considerable commercial potential, and moderate success both as a touring live act and on record, the band never quite caught on, and split in 1996.
History
Sun-60 began as an acoustic folk duo, composed of Joan Jones and David Russo playing under the name Far Cry. Gradually their sound became harder-edged, and they added various musicians to form a rock rhythm section.
They were signed by Epic Records in 1990 and released the eponymous Sun-60 in 1992. Sun-60 is a glossily-produced, high-energy folk/pop/rock album showcasing Jones' voice and hook-laden songwriting.
Only (1993) is primarily blues-based hard rock, although folk and pop influences are still audible. The album features guest performances from several notable musicians such as Dave Navarro.
The song was thought of by Sermon after buying a copy of Gaye's Midnight Love and the Sexual Healing Sessions album, which overlook some of the original album's earlier mixes. After listening to an outtake of Gaye's 1982 album track, "Turn On Some Music" (titled "I've Got My Music" in its initial version), Sermon decided to mix the vocals (done in a cappella) and add it into his own song. The result was similar to Natalie Cole's interpolation of her father, jazz great Nat "King" Cole's hit, "Unforgettable" revisioned as a duet. The hip hop and soul duet featuring the two veteran performers was released as the leading song of the soundtrack to the Martin Lawrence & Danny DeVito comedy, "What's the Worst That Could Happen?" The song became a runaway success rising to #2 on Billboard's R&B chart and was #1 on the rap charts. It also registered at #21 pop giving Sermon his highest-charted single on the pop charts as a solo artist and giving Gaye his first posthumous hit in 10 years following 1991's R&B-charted single, "My Last Chance" also bringing Gaye his 41st top 40 pop hit. There is also a version that's played on Adult R&B stations that removes Erick Sermon's rap verses. The song was featured in the 2011 Matthew McConaughey film The Lincoln Lawyer.
Music is the fourth album and first album on J Records by hip hop artist Erick Sermon. It was received well critically and commercially. Its success was fueled by its title track "Music" which sampled vocals from Marvin Gaye and in terms of chart position is Sermon's most popular song, peaking at #22, along with inclusion on the soundtrack of the Martin Lawrence/Danny DeVito film What's the Worst That Could Happen?; the music video for the song featured scenes from the film intermixed with clips of Gaye performing in archived music videos and music programs. "Music" propelled the album to reach #33 on The Billboard 200 chart making it Sermon's second most popular solo album.
Hubert Neal McGaughey, Jr. (born July 30, 1958) is an American country music singer of Irish and Filipino descent. Known professionally as Neal McCoy, he has released ten studio albums on various labels, and has released 34 singles to country radio. Although he first charted on BillboardHot Country Songs in 1988, he did not reach Top 40 for the first time until 1992's "Where Forever Begins", which peaked at number 40. McCoy broke through a year later with the back-to-back number 1 singles "No Doubt About It" and "Wink" from his platinum-certified album No Doubt About It. Although he has not topped the country charts since, his commercial success continued into the late 1990s with two more platinum albums and a gold album, as well as six more Top Ten hits. A seventh Top Ten hit, the number 10 "Billy's Got His Beer Goggles On", came in 2005 from his self-released That's Life.
Early life
He was born on July 30, 1958, in Jacksonville, Texas, to a Filipina American mother and Irish-American father. Inspired by the variety of music that his parents listened to, which included country, rock, disco and R&B, McGaughey first sang in his church choir before founding an R&B band. He later switched his focus to country music, performing in various bars and clubs in Texas. McGaughey, after attending junior college near his hometown, found work selling shoes at a shopping mall. In the early 1980s, he met his wife, Melinda, at the store.

Opening track from their second album, 'Split'
Lush - Light From a Dead Star
He lives his life in a world full of women
And he takes what he wants from their love
And he throws the rest away
I cling to him and pray
But still he slips away
And now it's just too late
To wish him back again
She won't put up with this life so she leaves him
And she finds someone else, falls in love
And she travels far away
I say that it's ok
And swallow all my pain
And now it's just too late
To wish her back again
They left me here on my own in a nightmare
And I just can't forgive any more
So I smile and turn away
Don't listen when they say
They wish that I could stay
And now it's just too late
To wish me back again
