Carpenters - Strength of a Woman
"Strength of a Woman" was recorded in 1981 for "Made In America," the last Carpenters album released during Karen's lifetime. To put this song into proper historical context, it was recorded a year after Karen completed her solo album, an album which she decided to shelve at the urging of A&M. She then returned to the studio to begin recording what turned out to be her last Carpenters album, "Made In America."
Her solo album has been described as her effort to change her image by breaking away from traditional Carpenters songs and recording songs with more risque lyrics in a higher tone of voice. Karen Carpenter - Strength of a Woman ( 1981 )
The Carpenters were an American vocal and instrumental duo of Karen and Richard Carpenter.
They produced a distinct soft musical style, combining Karen's contralto vocals with Richard's arranging and composition skills.
From the album: "Made In America" (1981)
Lyrics:
"Strength Of A Woman"
You've been so quiet lately
Sometimes I wonder has the cat got your tongue
You seem to be a thousand miles away
Don't look me in the eyes and say it's OK
Don't Lie
I got this funny feelin' baby
That it's going to be that time again
When you have the need for someone else
I know you better than you know yourself
[Chorus:]
Sometimes it takes the strength of a woman
To understand the weakness of her man
It's gonna the strength of this woman
To keep fightn' for the lovin' of her man
And darlin' when...

Oh I know how hard you tried
To hide this all from me
But if you keep a silent heart
I can't give you what you need
So hold me close, and hold me tight
Let's say goodnight, and never say good-bye.
