Street Fighter Alpha 2 (SNES) Playthrough - NintendoComplete
A playthrough of Nintendo's 1996 Super NES fighting game, Street Fighter Alpha 2.
Played through on the hardest difficulty level with Sakura. I didn't lose any rounds and got the best ending.
SFA2 for the SNES was a pretty incredible feat back in the day. I remember quite well drooling over PlayStations (that were still pretty new and expensive - at least, they were if you were only 13 in 1995), especially for this game. I'd played it endlessly at the arcade, and was disappointed when it was only announced for the 32-bit systems. Not long before I got my first PS1 this game out, and it was awesome. The graphics were close enough, and all the moves were there - the only things that stuck out to me were the oddly placed load time right AFTER the announcer says "Fight!" (so you have no rea...

The 12 Secret Characters of Street Fighter Alpha 2: Gold
Although not exhaustive, this video features lots of details on the changes EX characters have over their regular counterparts. As there doesn't seem to be a huge amount of info about this online, most of it just comes from doing a ton of testing.
Going back to Alpha 2 reminded me of how awesome it was. Incredible soundtrack, lots of great background details and easter eggs. Best in the alpha series, in my opinion.
Thanks for watching!

Street Fighter Alpha 2 (Saturn) Playthrough - NintendoComplete
A playthrough of Capcom's 1996 versus-fighting game for the Sega Saturn, Street Fighter Alpha 2.
Played through as Ryu on the hardest difficulty level. This video shows the best ending... which for whatever reason includes a poorly scanned, blotchy image of Sakura in the midst of a rosacea breakout. There are also a couple of funny Engrishy-moments in the dialogues with Akuma.
At 25:59 I show all of the bonus illustrations that you can access from the main menu.
I'm not sure what else to say about Street Fighter Alpha 2 that I haven't said already on my videos of countless other ports of it, but I can tell you that of all of the first-wave home ports of the game, this is by far the best one.
The graphics are extremely close to those of the original arcade game's - compared to the PS1 p...

Game 02 (Sagat): 17:44
Foreword: I played the game through twice to try and showcase as many characters and background stages as possible. I couldn't get every possible combination without the video becoming overly long, but this is a decent compromise.
It's commonly recognised that, upon it's release, Street Fighter II set the foundations for just about every tournament fighting game released. It was hugely popular in the arcades and caused an absolute storm when Capcom released the excellent SNES conversion for gamers to enjoy at home.
Street Fighter Alpha 2 was originally released into the arcades in 1996, a year after Street Fighter Alpha: Warrior's Dreams. I really don't remember anywhere near the same level of publicity or hype surrounding either of these games and it wasn't until the release of the PC version in 1998 that I even became aware of the game. Whether I'd simply been living under a rock, or whether the game wasn't as widely publicised as it's parent, I was still very keen to see what the game was like.
Perhaps the first thing gamers will notice is the dramatic change in art style from the Street Fighter II series to the more cartoon-like style depicted here. Although I still think that SNK fighting games on the Neo-Geo tended to have the edge in terms of animation and quality, there's no denying that Alpha 2 looks absolutely stunning. Everything from the character sprites to the background art are beautifully rendered and animated; whilst 3D games typically start to look dated after a couple of years, the hand-drawn 2D art means that the game looks as good today as it did on release.
The gameplay, too, is fantastic. I've played a fair few fighting games over the years and whilst I'm certainly no master, I feel that the game offers the right amount of complexity in it's fighting system without getting bogged down with needless complications. The fluidity of the combat system and excellent collision/hitbox detection means that the combat is always fast, furious and fun.
In addition to regular punches, kicks and special moves, the player also fills up a "special" gauge at the bottom of the screen. Once a gauge level has been filled, the player can unleash a devastating super special against the opponent. The player can decide to use up one, two or three levels of charge with each doing increasing levels of damage; however, there's always a risk that your opponent will block the attack and you'll have to wait for the gauge to recharge.
The game boasts a character roster of 18 different fighters, some familiar and some new to the series. The game includes characters from Capcom's side-scrolling beat 'em up, Final Fight, as well as the return of characters from the very first Street Fighter. Each fighter has their own back-story and unique ending screen should the player be able to beat the game with that particular character. As if that wasn't enough, there's also a chance that an additional fight takes place between the player's character and someone significant to their plot-line within the game.
Whilst the main attraction here is the multiplayer combat, I'm pleased to say that the game features some faily robust AI that means that there's plenty of fun for the solo player. Those with ninja-like reflexes can increase the difficulty for an even tougher challenge, although I find the default level to be just right for me.
Anyone who enjoys fighting games should get plenty of enjoyment from Street Fighter Alpha 2 and, despite numerous sequels, cross-overs and reboots, I still think this is my favourite game in the franchise.

The graphics were close enough, and all the moves were there - the only things that stuck out to me were the oddly placed load time right AFTER the announcer says "Fight!" (so you have no real exact warning of when you can start), and the music was awful. I remember very well in 1996 recoiling from what this sounded like the first time I played. I loved the arcade game's music, and especially loved that they had the machine turned up hella loud. This sounded like some spastic calliope that a drunkard chucked up in. Okay, maybe I exaggerate a bit, but still. It sounds like a really cheap organ. The whole thing. It was a worthwhile sacrifice, though, if it meant that I could play it on my SNES and not feel cheated. It really did feel like the arcade game, and even with the co-processor in the cart that was there solely to facilitate data decompression, SFA2 on the SNES did the impossible - it smashed a brand-new cutting-edge arcade game pretty faithfully onto a system based on mid-80s tech. Truly nice work, Capcom!
Of course, after I got my PlayStation and a copy of SFA and SFA2 for that, this was quickly forgotten. Oh well.

Episode Notes:
1. PS and Saturn footage on real hardware. Arcade version clips use MAME. SNES version clips use ZSNES, as I do not own the game.
2. During the Custom Combo explanation, I didn't exactly do a good job. It's 2 punch and any kick button, or 2 kick and any punch button to activate. The 6 button face of the Saturn controller actually makes it quite easy.
3. You may notice in my videos that I pronounce names/words differently sometimes. I tend to do this for the many ways I have heard the names pronounced over the years and I'll change it up video to video. It's pretty much for my long term friends. I get a kick out of people trying to correct it in the comments. Hey, it gets them to interact with the video. I had a buddy who use to pronounce Zangief as "Zan-Furd". No shit. I'm still waiting to drop that one in an episode.
4. To this day, I have close friends that consider this their favorite Street Fighter.
5. I just realized I ran the part about playing Alpha 2 on more modern platforms right up against the Alpha 2 Gold comments, making it sound like I was saying Alpha 2 Gold was in all those versions. I meant that Alpha 2 in general were available in the modern editions, not Alpha 2 Gold specifically.

I meant that Alpha 2 in general were available in the modern editions, not Alpha 2 Gold specifically.

The graphics are extremely close to those of the original arcade game's - compared to the PS1 port, the animation cuts have been kept to a minimum, making it substantially smoother, and the sprite-based intro is far, far better than the badly-compressed FMV of the PlayStation game. The faster loading times are pretty nice too. Granted, the sound quality of the effects and voices takes an ugly hit thanks to the Saturn's lack of hardware support for compressed audio, but it is a worthwhile compromise considering this version's advantages.
It has been awhile since I last did a Street Fighter game, and SFA2 is one of my favorites, so I thought I would pull it out again for another refresher. I am playing this on the game's hardest setting, but like the SNES and PS1 games, this one's difficulty level is far lower than Street Fighter games are generally known for. I did pull off a few good custom super combos, though.

Un "TAS" (Tool Assisted Superplay) es un "gameplay" ayudado con herramientas de un emulador para lograr una demostración "perfecta".
