Strathnaver or Strath Naver (Scottish Gaelic:Srath Nabhair) is the fertile strath of the River Naver, a famous salmon river that flows from Loch Naver to the north coast of Scotland. The term has a broader use as the name of an ancient province also known as the Reay Country (Scottish Gaelic:Dùthaich MhicAoidh), once controlled by the Clan Mackay and extending over most of northwest Sutherland.
Geography
Loch Naver lies at the head of the strath, in the shadow of Ben Klibreck. The loch is 10km (6mi) long and 33m (108ft) deep. The Altnaharra Hotel at the western end of the loch has been used by anglers since the early 19th century. The loch is fed by two rivers (Mudale and Vagastie) and several burns. Just below the loch, the Naver is joined by the River Mallart coming down from Loch Choire. It then flows through the Naver Forest and under the road bridge at Syre. The Langdale Burn and Carnachy Burn are other major tributaries as the strath widens out and flows into the sea at Bettyhill.
RMS Strathnaver, along with her sister Strathaird, was an ocean liner introduced by the P&O line in 1931 - and she caused quite a stir! In this episode, Mike Brady runs through some of the radical features of this magnificent historic ship.
The painting at the start of this video was completed by my good friend and renown maritime artist Elang Erlangga.

The Strathnaver Trail, Scottish Highlands, Scotland - Exploring The Scottish Highlands In The Spring
The Strathnaver Trail is one of my favourite drives in the Scottish Highlands. https://www.facebook.com/Adventures-In-Scotland-100902395543907 is my new Facebook page where I'll be posting more short video - hope you enjoy it.
The Scottish spring was incredibly late this year and the weather very changeable, but the land still has an austere beauty about it, which I find incredibly beautiful, peaceful and atmospheric. I feel very connected to nature and history in this part of the world. It grounds and recentres you. As always, please follow the countryside code when you visit :-)
I now have a Facebook page where I'll be posting more regular short videos of Scotland and some 'mindful moment' videos which I hope you'll enjoy too. You can follow my page at https://www.facebook.com/Adventur...

Strathnaver and her sister ships RMS Strathaird and RMS Strathmore were Royal Mail Ships that worked P&O's regular liner route between Tilbury in Essex, England and Brisbane in Queensland, Australia.
