Stormy Weather is a 1943 American musical film produced and released by 20th Century Fox. The movie is considered one of the best Hollywood musicals with an African-American cast, the other being MGM's Cabin in the Sky. The film is considered a primary showcase of some of the top African-American performers of the time, during an era when African-American actors and singers rarely appeared in lead roles in mainstream Hollywood productions, especially those of the musical genre.
Stormy Weather takes its title from the 1933 song of the same title, which is performed near the end of the film. It is based upon the life and times of its star, dancer Bill "Bojangles" Robinson. Robinson plays "Bill Williamson," a talented born dancer who returns home in 1918 after fighting in World War I and tries to pursue a career as a performer. Along the way, he approaches a beautiful singer named Selina Rogers, played by Lena Horne in one of her few non-MGM film appearances (and one of only two films from the 1930s-40s in which Horne played a substantial role). The character of Selina was invented for the film; Robinson did not have such a romance in real life. Dooley Wilson co-stars as Bill's perpetually-broke friend.
Stormy Weather is a 1995 novel by Carl Hiaasen. It takes place in the chaotic aftermath of Hurricane Andrew in South Florida, including insurance scams, street fights, hunt for food and shelter, corrupt bureaucracy, ravaged environment and disaster tourists.
Plot
Young newlyweds Max and Bonnie Lamb, on their honeymoon at Walt Disney World in Orlando, are taken aback by news of a hurricane making landfall in South Florida. To Bonnie's surprise, Max is possessed by a fervent desire to visit the disaster scene after it has passed through.
Once they arrive, Bonnie is appalled to see Max hopping through hurricane debris and gutted houses with his video camera, treating the devastation as a tourist attraction. She stalks away from him to regain her temper, and is not present when Max is snatched up by "Skink," an ex-governor of Florida now living wild in the Florida country, who attempts to teach him some manners and respect for nature (partly through the use of a shock collar).
The single and its parent album re-united the band with Hugh Jones, who produced their second album, 1981's Heaven Up Here. At the time Jones said that the Siberia work was the best he had ever done. The song was written by Will Sergeant and Ian McCulloch and it was recorded at Elevator Studios in The Bunnymen's home town of Liverpool. The cover of the single shows a photograph of Sergeant and McCulloch which was taken in Berlin by photographer Joe Dilworth.
Released on the Cooking Vinyllabel, the single was available as a CD single (FRY CD246), a 7-inch single (FRY 246) and digital downloads– both as an individual track (FRY DL246) and as a bundled download (FRY DL246X)– which were available from the band's official website. On 14 November 2005, a live version of the song was also released which had been recorded at an HMV store. The acoustic versions of "Make Me Shine", "Nothing Lasts Forever" and "Lips Like Sugar", which are on the 7-inch single and the bundled download, are taken from a live session for Brazilian radio.

Seemingly an overnight sensation in 1943, with dazzling appearances in “Cabin in the Sky” and “Stormy Weather,” Horne had all the makings of a major studio star. But both of those films featured all-Black casts.
