"The Hockey Song" is a song written and originally performed by Canadian folksinger Stompin' Tom Connors.
The song first appeared on Connors' 1973 album, Stompin' Tom and the Hockey Song. The song did not reach its tremendous popularity until 1992. It was at this time that the song was played at Ottawa Senators games.Pat Burns, then coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs, insisted it be played in Toronto as well. The song is now played throughout both Canadian and American NHL arenas.

The verses of the song are split up so that each one describes a period of play in a typical hockey game. In the first verse Connors sings, "Someone roars, Bobby scores!". This was probably done because many popular players in the NHL at the time were named Bobby, namely Bobby Orr, Bobby Clarke, and Bobby Hull. In the last verse Connors sings that it is the last game of the playoffs and the "Stanley Cup is all filled up for the champs that win the drink". He later also sings "The puck is in, the home team wins!". In concert he would sometimes change "home team" to an actual team based on where he was playing. One example was at the closing ceremonies for Maple Leaf Gardens, when he changed the last game line from the playoffs to "the Garden", and mentioned that the Leafs have won.
Charles Thomas "Stompin' Tom" Connors, OC (February 9, 1936– March 6, 2013) was a Canadiancountry and folksinger-songwriter. Focusing his career exclusively on his native Canada, Connors is credited with writing more than 300 songs and has released four dozen albums, with total sales of nearly 4 million copies. Connors died at 77 in his home in Ballinafad, Ontario, of renal failure.
Isabel's family were Protestant, and his maternal grandfather, John Connors, was a sea captain from Boston, Massachusetts who had died before Stompin' Tom was born. Stompin' Tom's father was a Catholic of Irish and French ancestry, and "may have been Métis or ... Micmac." Isabel Connors and Thomas Joseph Sullivan didn't wed until 30 years later, probably because Sullivan's family were devout Catholics and didn't want him marrying a Protestant; they later divorced. Sullivan's mother gave him $10, and was told to leave home. Connors was also cousin of New Brunswick fiddling sensation, Ned Landry.

Hello out there we're on the air it's hockey night tonite Tension grows the whistle blows-& the puck goes down the ice. The goalie jumps and the players bump and the fans all go insane Someone roars "Bobby scores!" at the good ole hockey game Chorus: Oh the good ole hockey game is the best game you can name And the best game you can name is the good ole hockey game 2nd period: Where players dash with skates aflash the home team trails behind But they grab the puck and go bursting up and they're down across the line They storm the crease like bumble bees they travel like a burning flame We see them slide the puck inside -It's a "1-1" hockey game! Chorus: 3rd period: last game in the playoffs, too... Oh take me where the hockey players face off down the rink- And the Stanley Cup is all filled up for the chaps who win the drink- Now the final flick of the hockey stick and a one gigantic scream- The puck is in! The home team wins! The good ole hockey game! Chorus: repeat 3 times He shoots he scores...
