FIRST TIME IN SWEDEN (Stockholm blew my mind!) 🇸🇪
Our first time in Stockholm, Sweden surprised us!
We were blown away by the beauty of Stockholm, especially the old town in Gamla Stan.
We visited the most incredible museum, the Vasa Museum, and were lucky to catch the changing of the guard ceremony at the Royal Palace. We then had some lunch, and tried some traditional Swedish food like the famous Swedish meatballs (not at Ikea), and stromming (not surströmming).
We also ended the day with some delicious Swedish fika.

Stockholm, the capital of Sweden, is a vibrant city that seamlessly blends history, culture, and modernity.
As you plan your visit to this enchanting Scandinavian destination, you'll find an abundance of things to do in Stockholm that cater to all interests and ages. Whether you're seeking cultural experiences, outdoor adventures, or culinary delights, Stockholm has something for everyone.
One of the best things to do in Stockholm is to explore the Old Town, known as Gamla Stan. This well-preserved medieval city center is a maze of narrow cobblestone streets, colorful buildings, and charming squares. Here, you can visit the Royal Palace, witness the changing of the guard, and immerse yourself in the city's rich history.
For those interested in museums, Stockholm offers a wealth of options. The Vasa Museum, housing a restored 17th-century warship, is one of the top things to do in Stockholm. Art enthusiasts will appreciate the Moderna Museet, showcasing contemporary and modern art, while history buffs can delve into the past at the Swedish History Museum.
Nature lovers will find plenty of fun things to do in Stockholm, as the city is built on 14 islands connected by bridges. Take a boat tour to explore the archipelago, or rent a kayak for a more intimate experience. The Royal National City Park, spanning 27 square kilometers, offers a green oasis for hiking, cycling, and picnicking.
When it comes to unique things to do in Stockholm, don't miss the ABBA Museum, an interactive exhibition celebrating the iconic Swedish pop group. For a truly memorable experience, visit the Ice Bar, where everything from the walls to the glasses is made of ice.
As night falls, Stockholm comes alive with cool things to do. Enjoy a drink at a rooftop bar with panoramic views of the city, catch a performance at the Royal Swedish Opera, or dance the night away in one of the trendy clubs in the Södermalm district.
Foodies will delight in Stockholm's culinary scene. Visit the Östermalms Saluhall, a historic food hall, to sample traditional Swedish delicacies. For a more upscale dining experience, book a table at one of the city's Michelin-starred restaurants.
Stockholm attractions cater to all seasons. In summer, enjoy outdoor concerts and festivals, while winter brings the magic of Christmas markets and ice skating rinks. The city's efficient public transportation system makes it easy to explore all that Stockholm has to offer.
As you plan your Stockholm travel itinerary, consider purchasing the Stockholm Pass, which provides free entry to many popular attractions and includes public transportation. This can be an excellent way to maximize your sightseeing experience and save money.
Whether you're interested in history, art, nature, or simply soaking up the atmosphere, Stockholm tourism offers a diverse range of activities and experiences. From world-class museums to picturesque islands, this Swedish capital is a destination that will captivate and inspire visitors from around the globe.

Pepper Robot Disambiguating Sweets of Sweden
Pepper, the humanoid robot, disambiguates the Swedish sweets based on their relative position.
(Example: You can ask the robot to pass you an object of yours but, being present multiple ones in the environment, the robot has to differentiate them. The robot has now to prompt you "would you like the one that's next to ... or the one that's behind ... ?)
If a sweet disappears in the process, in real-time, the robot uses the other ones to define a new description.
A disambiguation system has been used to find the description that is unambiguous for an object.
The objects' positions are computed through an object detector.

Stockholm syndrome is a psychological response sometimes seen in an abducted hostage, in which the hostage shows signs of loyalty to the hostage-taker, regardless of the danger (or at least risk) in which they have been placed. The syndrome is named after the Norrmalmstorg robbery of Kreditbanken at Norrmalmstorg, Stockholm, Sweden, in which the bank robbers held bank employees hostage from August 23 to August 28 in 1973. In this case, the victims became emotionally attached to their victimizers, and even defended their captors after they were freed from their six-day ordeal. The term Stoc...

Kristina Nilsson Björkenstam on children’s language learning
Stockholm University Lecturer in Computational Linguistics, Dr. Kristina Nilsson Björkenstam, researches natural language processing through combining data-driven methods and linguistic knowledge. Her current project is to map the development of language in children. http://www.ling.su.se/english/
“In my research I try to incorporate social cues like eye gaze and gesture into a model of child language acquisition. I spend most of my time trying to build a representation of parent child interaction, using authentic data. To me the most exciting research question is how do children learn language and how do they become experts on disambiguation.”

From Sweden with Socialism
Coming to you from the Swedish countryside, let’s talk socialism. It’s time to prove why Obama is the farthest thing from socialism since George Bush and why even Sweden can’t claim to be the perfect socialist utopia.

^ Du gamla, Du fria has never been officially adopted as national anthem, but is so by convention.

Germanic peoples have inhabited Sweden since prehistoric times, emerging into history as the Geats (Swedish: Götar) and Swedes (Svear) and constituting the sea peoples known as the Norsemen. An independent Swedish state emerged during the early 12th century. After the Black Death in the middle of the 14th century killed about a third of the Scandinavian population,[20][21] the dominance of the Hanseatic League in Northern Europe threatened Scandinavia economically and politically. This led to the forming of the Scandinavian Kalmar Union in 1397,[22] which Sweden left in 1523. When Sweden became involved in the Thirty Years' War on the Protestant side, an expansion of its territories began and eventually the Swedish Empire was formed, this became one of the great powers of Europe until the early 18th century.

Stockholm Syndrome

For other uses, see Stockholm syndrome (disambiguation).
The term Stockholm Syndrome was coined by the criminologist and psychiatrist Nils Bejerot, who assisted the police during the robbery, and referred to the syndrome in a news broadcast.[1]
File:Former Kreditbanken Norrmalmstorg Stockholm Sweden.jpg
It should be taken into account that according to Namnyak e.a. (2008) the Stockholm Syndrome "is not a recognized Medical Subject Heading (MeSH), that most sources of information for widely publicized cases were of varying reliability in terms of the events that led to the diagnosis of Stockholm syndrome; the authors had no access to primary sources and identification of a pattern of features exhibited in Stockholm syndrome may be due to reporting bias."
