Steve Rossi
Joseph Charles Michael Tafarella (May 25, 1932 – June 22, 2014), better known as Steve Rossi, was an American stand-up comedian, best known from his work with Marty Allen as Allen & Rossi.
Early life
Born in New York City in 1932, Rossi earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in communication, arts and theater, Greek and Latin at Loyola Marymount University, Los Angeles and served as an officer in the United States Air Force.
Career
The comedian was discovered by Mae West, who, with her manager Jerry Franks, saw him in 1953 as the lead of The Student Prince at the Civic Light Orchestra in Los Angeles. Under his birth name (Joseph Tafarella), Rossi was signed to a nightclub show with West at Ciro's in Los Angeles. The show was subsequently moved to the Sahara Hotel in Las Vegas. According to Rossi, West picked "Steve" because she was dating actor Steve Cochran at the time and had a manager by the name of Bernie Ross; an "i" was added to the end of Ross to reflect Rossi's Italian heritage. West and Rossi toured in 1953 and 1954. Rossi wrote the musical numbers he performed in the show with West. Following the tour's end, Rossi concentrated on his musical career, recording music with his group, Steve Rossi and The Robinaires, on Red Robin Records.

Mae West
Mary Jane "Mae" West (August 17, 1893 – November 22, 1980) was an American actress, singer, playwright, screenwriter, and sex symbol whose entertainment career spanned seven decades.
Known for her bawdy double entendres, West made a name for herself in vaudeville and on the stage in New York City before moving to Hollywood to become a comedienne, actress, and writer in the motion picture industry. For her contributions to American cinema, the American Film Institute named West 15th among the greatest female stars of classic American cinema.
One of the more controversial movie stars of her day, West encountered many problems, including censorship. When her cinematic career ended, she continued to perform in Las Vegas, in the United Kingdom, and on radio and television, and to record rock and roll albums. Asked about the various efforts to impede her career, West replied: "I believe in censorship. I made a fortune out of it."
Early life and career
West was born Mary Jane West in Bushwick, Brooklyn on August 17, 1893, having been delivered at home by an aunt who was a midwife. She was the eldest surviving child of John Patrick West and Matilda "Tillie" Delker (sometimes spelled "Dilker"), who, with her five siblings, had emigrated with their parents, Jacob and Christiana, from the German state of Bavaria in 1886. West's parents married on January 18, 1889, in Brooklyn and reared their children as Protestants, although John West was of mixed Catholic-Protestant descent. Her father was a prizefighter known as "Battlin' Jack West" who later worked as a "special policeman", and later had his own private investigations agency. Her mother was a former corset and fashion model. Her paternal grandmother, Mary Jane (née Copley), for whom she was named, was of Irish Catholic descent, and West's paternal grandfather, John Edwin West, was of English-Scots descent and a ship's rigger.

MAE-West
MAE-West was an Internet exchange point located on the west coast of the U.S. in San Jose, California and Los Angeles, California. Its name officially stands for "Metropolitan Area Exchange, West", although some note the similarity to the name of the actress Mae West. Its San Jose facility was housed in the Market Post Tower.

May West
A May West (originally called a "Mae West", after the eponymous movie star, but the spelling was changed in the 1980s) is a round dessert cake with cream filling. It was created in Canada, and continues to be particularly popular in the province of Quebec. It is currently made by Vachon Inc., a division of Canada Bread
The cake was invented by René Brousseau, patissier at Vaillancourt Inc., a Quebec City bakery. As of 1932 the May West was then made by Stuart Ltd, run by the wealthy Montreal-based Allard family and subsequently bought out in 1979 by their longtime competitor, Vachon Inc. Vachon continued to market them under the Stuart brand, before retiring the Stuart brand and rebranding the line to reflect a consolidated Vachon lineup.
The original creme filling was custard, however it has since then been replaced by a shortening-based vanilla creme close in taste and texture to the filling found in Twinkies.

Mae is an American rock band that formed in Norfolk, Virginia in 2001. The band's name is an acronym for "Multi-sensory Aesthetic Experience", based on a course taken by drummer Jacob Marshall while a student at Old Dominion University.
History
Jacob Marshall and Dave Elkins began what would become Mae by writing their first song, "Embers and Envelopes", in Marshall's living room. The band signed with Tooth and Nail Records and released their first album, Destination: Beautiful, in 2003. They released their second full-length album, The Everglow, in 2005. The band toured extensively to promote it, and also performed on the Vans Warped Tour. Mae re-released The Everglow in 2006, adding three new songs and a two-hour DVD.
Later in 2006, the band signed to Capitol Records for their third full-length album. Mae began recording the album in the fall of 2006, working with producer Howard Benson (who has produced albums for Saosin, My Chemical Romance, Blindside, and Relient K). The album, titled Singularity, was released on August 14, 2007. On June 19, 2007, the band released the first single from Singularity, "Sometimes I Can't Make It Alone".

In December 2008 Steve Rossi, of Allen & Rossi fame, was at the Mike Costley show in the Cascade Lounge at the Agua Caliente Hotel, Rancho Mirage, California. He was invited up to sing his famous hit song 'More'. He was accompanied by the also talented Pat Rizzo, who sings and plays sax and has entertained Frank Sinatra in his day. He goofs around with the words, as he is also a world-famous comedian.

It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

Allen & Rossi was a comedy team composed of Marty Allen and Steve Rossi, active from 1957 until 1968. They appeared on over 700 television shows including 44 appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show, including two of the four Ed Sullivan episodes on which the Beatles appeared. They recorded 16 comedy albums, the title of one using their signature comedy catch phrase of "Hello Dere!" The team also appeared in a spy spoof film The Last of the Secret Agents (1966) and their own TV special. Allen said, of their catch phrase, "We were into the act and I just went blank... and I looked at Steve and said, 'Hello dere . . . hello dere.' Then suddenly everyone in the club was saying it - hello dere."
On episode 851 of What's My Line, Allen & Rossi credited Nat King Cole for bringing them together. Allen & Rossi would tour for three years with Cole and appeared regularly on his TV show. "Steve was talking to Nat one day and mentioned that he would like to try something different - maybe a comedy thing," Allen said. "I was working at a club in Chicago with Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme when I got a call from Steve. I had never thought much about a partner, but I said, 'Well, come on out.' We met and I figured, well, here's a good-looking guy and he can sing, so maybe we can do something."
Following their split in 1968, both performed regularly with different partners. They reunited numerous times throughout the next three decades. In 1984 and 1985 they teamed for a series of shows in Atlantic City and toured. They were given a lifetime contract beginning in 1990 to appear at the Vegas World Casino Hotel in Las Vegas, which is now the Stratosphere Hotel and Casino. They appeared as a team from 1990 to 1994 and toured together late in 1994 before splitting once again.
Rossi died of cancer in 2014; Allen died from complications of pneumonia in 2018.

The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. Allen & Rossi was a comedy team composed of Marty Allen and Steve Rossi, active from 1957 until 1968. They appeared on over 700 television shows including 44 appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show, including two of the four Ed Sullivan episodes on which the Beatles appeared. They recorded 16 comedy albums, the title of one using their signature comedy catch phrase of "Hello Dere!" The team also appeared in a spy spoof film The Last of the Secret Agents (1966) and their own TV special. Allen said, of their catch phrase, "We were into the act and I just went blank... and I looked at Steve and said, 'Hello dere . . . hello dere.' Then suddenly everyone in the club was saying it - hello dere."
On episode 851 of What's My Line, Allen & Rossi credited Nat King Cole for bringing them together. Allen & Rossi would tour for three years with Cole and appeared regularly on his TV show. "Steve was talking to Nat one day and mentioned that he would like to try something different - maybe a comedy thing," Allen said. "I was working at a club in Chicago with Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme when I got a call from Steve. I had never thought much about a partner, but I said, 'Well, come on out.' We met and I figured, well, here's a good-looking guy and he can sing, so maybe we can do something."
Following their split in 1968, both performed regularly with different partners. They reunited numerous times throughout the next three decades. In 1984 and 1985 they teamed for a series of shows in Atlantic City and toured. They were given a lifetime contract beginning in 1990 to appear at the Vegas World Casino Hotel in Las Vegas, which is now the Stratosphere Hotel and Casino. They appeared as a team from 1990 to 1994 and toured together late in 1994 before splitting once again.
Rossi died of cancer in 2014; Allen died from complications of pneumonia in 2018.

Joseph Charles Michael Tafarella (May 25, 1932 – June 22, 2014), better known as Steve Rossi, was an American stand-up comedian, best known from his work with Marty Allen as Allen & Rossi.
Early life
Born in New York City in 1932, Rossi earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in communication, arts and theater, Greek and Latin at Loyola Marymount University, Los Angeles and served as an officer in the United States Air Force.
Career
The comedian was discovered by Mae West, who, with her manager Jerry Franks, saw him in 1953 as the lead of The Student Prince at the Civic Light Orchestra in Los Angeles. Under his birth name (Joseph Tafarella), Rossi was signed to a nightclub show with West at Ciro's in Los Angeles. The show was subsequently moved to the Sahara Hotel in Las Vegas. According to Rossi, West picked "Steve" because she was dating actor Steve Cochran at the time and had a manager by the name of Bernie Ross; an "i" was added to the end of Ross to reflect Rossi's Italian heritage. West and Rossi toured in 1953 and 1954. Rossi wrote the musical numbers he performed in the show with West. Following the tour's end, Rossi concentrated on his musical career, recording music with his group, Steve Rossi and The Robinaires, on Red Robin Records.

Mae West was an American stage and film actress, playwright, screenwriter, singer, and sex symbol whose entertainment career spanned over seven decades. She was known for her breezy sexual independence, and her lighthearted bawdy double entendres, often delivered in a husky contralto voice. She was active in vaudeville and on stage in New York City before moving to Los Angeles to pursue a career in the film industry.
West was one of the most controversial movie stars of her day; she encountered problems especially with censorship. She once quipped, "I believe in censorship. I made a fortune out of it."She bucked the system by making comedy out of conventional mores, and the Depression-era audience admired her for it. When her film career ended, she wrote books and plays, and continued to perform in Las Vegas and the United Kingdom, on radio and television, and recorded rock 'n roll albums. In 1999, the American Film Institute posthumously voted West the 15th greatest female screen legend of classic American cinema.

Mae West achieved great acclaim in every medium of entertainment that existed during her lifetime, spanning eight decades of the 20th century. A full-time actress at seven, a vaudevillian at 14, a dancing sensation at 25, a Broadway playwright at 33, a silver screen ingénue at 40, a Vegas nightclub act at 62, a recording artist at 73, a camp icon at 85 – West left no format unconquered. She possessed creative and economic powers unheard of for a female entertainer in the 1930s and still rare today. Though she was a comedian, West grappled with some of the more complex social issues of the 20th century, including race and class tensions, and imbued even her most salacious plotlines with commentary about gender conformity, societal restrictions and what she perceived as moral hypocrisy.
