Stereotypes of African Americans
Stereotypes and generalizations about African Americans and their culture have evolved within American society dating back to the colonial years of settlement, particularly after slavery became a racial institution that was heritable. The early blackface minstrel shows of the 19th century portrayed blacks as joyous, naive, superstitious, ignorant, and musically inclined—characteristics related to the way slaveholders in earlier years believed them to be.
Such scholars as Patricia A. Turner note "stereotyping objects in popular culture that depict blacks as servile, primitive, or simpleminded and explains how the subtle influences of such seemingly harmless images reinforce anti-black attitudes". As with every other identifiable group, stereotypes continue today. African Americans are often portrayed as violent, lazy and very religious. They also are portrayed as having a love of fried chicken, watermelon, corn bread, Kool-Aid, waffles, sweet tea, and grape drink.

African Americans
African Americans (also referred to as Black Americans or Afro-Americans) are an ethnic group of Americans (citizens or residents of the United States) with total or partial ancestry from any of the Black racial groups of Africa. The term may also be used to include only those individuals who are descended from enslaved Africans. As a compound adjective the term is usually hyphenated as African-American.
African Americans constitute the third largest racial and ethnic group in the United States (after White Americans and Hispanic and Latino Americans). Most African Americans are of West and Central African descent and are descendants of enslaved blacks within the boundaries of the present United States. On average, African Americans are of 78 percent West African, 19 percent European and 3 percent Native American heritage, with very large variation between individuals. Immigrants from some African, Caribbean, Central American, and South American nations and their descendants may or may not also self-identify with the term.

Americans
Americans are citizens of the United States of America. The country is home to people of many different national origins. As a result, most Americans do not equate their nationality with ethnicity, but with citizenship and allegiance. Although citizens make up the majority of Americans, non-citizen residents, dual citizens, and expatriates may also claim an American identity.
Overview
The majority of Americans or their ancestors immigrated within the past five centuries, with the exception of the Native American population and people from Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Philippine Islands who became American through expansion of the country in the 19th century, and American Samoa, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Northern Mariana Islands in the 20th century.
Despite its multi-ethnic composition, the culture of the United States held in common by most Americans can also be referred to as mainstream American culture, a Western culture largely derived from the traditions of Northern and Western European colonists, settlers, and immigrants. It also includes influences of African-American culture. Westward expansion integrated the Creoles and Cajuns of Louisiana and the Hispanos of the Southwest and brought close contact with the culture of Mexico. Large-scale immigration in the late 19th and early 20th centuries from Southern and Eastern Europe introduced a variety of elements. Immigration from Asia, Africa, and Latin America has also had impact. A cultural melting pot, or pluralistic salad bowl, describes the way in which generations of Americans have celebrated and exchanged distinctive cultural characteristics.

They worked as indentured servants who were bound to an employer for a limited number of years. The blacks were documented into slavery in Virginia in 1661 and in all the English colonies by 1750. History of African Americans began when 20 Africans were dropped in the English colony of Virginia in 1619. They worked as indentured servants who were bound to an employer for a limited number of years. The blacks were documented into slavery in Virginia in 1661 and in all the English colonies by 1750. During that time, they were considered an inferior race with heathen culture. They were forced to work in the farmlands of the New World. They were sold as merchandise by European traders on slave ships across the Atlantic Ocean to the West Indies. At least one-sixth of them died during the journey due to shock, disease and suicide.
During the period of the 17th and 18th centuries, Africans and African Americans were forced to work as slaves on tobacco, rice, and indigo plantations of the southern coast. Legislation was passed by President Thomas Jefferson in 1807 to end the slave trade in America. However, it did nothing but boosted the domestic slave trade in the country. Meanwhile, there were still free black people making up one tenth of the entire African American population. But while in the South, they were subject to restrictions imposed on slaves, in the North, they were not allowed to vote, own any property and travel freely.
Abolitionists in Britain and the United States in the 1840-1860 period developed large, complex propaganda campaigns against slavery. Among the free blacks in the North were emerging African American leaders in many states such as Philadelphia, Boston, and New York City. They initially held national and state conventions in early 1830. However, these people share different opinions on how to deal with slavery and discrimination. Thus, African Americans founded Liberia in West Africa, which foreshadowed the development of Pan-African nationalism.
According to the Missouri Compromise of 1820, there must be an equal number of slave and free states. But this was abrogated, leading to slavery in all American territory. In 1860, Abraham Lincoln was elected president of America on the antislavery platform of the new Republican party. At the beginning of 1861, a movement, known as the Civil War, was launched in an attempt to liberate all the country's slaves. In September 1862 he issued the Emancipation Proclamation, stating that all slaves were to be free.
After the Civil War, nearly four million slaves were freed, gained their citizenship and the right to vote by the Thirteenth, Fourteenth and Fifteenth Amendments respectively. However, all of these new provisions were ignored, especially in the South.
During reconstruction, with leadership from educated African Americans from the North and abroad, they gradually wield political power in the South. However, it didn’t last long due to economic pressure and violent antiblack activities such as ones from Ku Klux Klan. The white supremacy once again dominated, leading to racial separation all over the Southern states. In the post-Reconstruction years, both African Americans in the South and the North struggled to find a job, so many of them decided to migrate westward.
In 1900, nearly 8 million African Americans still lived in the South, however, due to economic depression, more African Americans moved Northwards and were then embroiled in WWI. During the war thousands of black officers were commissioned and many served abroad in labour battalions and service regiments.
Due to the Great Depression of the 1930s, a large number of African Americans lost their jobs amidst inherent discrimination. African Americans were aided with low cost public housing, education and more jobs.
The Civil Rights Movement was the persistent and deliberate step of African Americans in the 1940s and 1950s. The culmination of the Civil Rights Movement was in 1963 when King addressed the crowd of about 250,000 demonstrators gathered on the Mall from Lincoln Memorial. The march aided in securing the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which banned discrimination in voting, public accommodations, and employment.
The dramatic political breakthrough came in the 2008 election, with the election of Barack Obama, the son of a black Kenyan father and a white American mother.
The post-civil rights era is notable for the New Great Migration, in which millions of African Americans have returned to the South, often to pursue increased economic opportunities in now-desegregated southern cities.

Outgoing Republican Senator Mitt Romney had some, uh, fairly harsh words for the United States of America after a lot of people over the last few weeks have, of course been freaking out, not only about Donald Trump's cabinet picks, but also about his threats to destroy the entire United States economy. And Mitt Romney just wants people to know that, uh, you voted for the guy, you picked him, he told you he was gonna do it. So don't you dare complain. And this may be one of the only times in my life where I actually agree with MIT Romney, but here is what Mitt Romney said on CNN's State of the Union this past Sunday. Donald Trump won. He won overwhelmingly, you know what? Go ahead and stop right there because no, no, he didn't. He got a plurality of votes. He didn't even get a majority of the votes. He did not cross the 50% mark.
He won by one and a half percent of the popular votes. So don't you dare try to convince people he won. Overwhelmingly he won, absolutely, but it was not by a mandate. So make sure you get that right next time, Romney. But he continued, he said what he was going to do, and that's what he's doing. I mean, people are saying, oh, I don't like this appointment or this policy that he is talking about, but those are all the things he said he was going to do when he ran. So you can't complain about someone who does what he said he was going to do.
And again, on those things, Romney's, a hundred percent right? We have already seen multiple different polls, we have seen posts on social media. You know, Buzzfeed did a, a big collection of posts less than a week after the election of all these people expressing buyer's remorse. A a poll came out just a couple days ago, an AP NORC poll that showed that a majority of Americans have already lost all faith in Donald Trump's decision making abilities. Like 60% of the country has no faith in Donald Trump's ability to make decisions. And that was, you know, a month after a plurality of people went to the polls and said, yep, let's put him back in the White House. Donald Trump is not going to cruise through an easy four years. I mean, I know he does have the media in his pocket now they're gonna do whatever the hell he wants him to do. But even with the media bowing down to Donald Trump, that's not going to convince most people in this country that their lives are better when clearly they will not be under these Trump policies. I mean, hell, if the media telling you that the economy was doing just fine during the Biden years, still led to them not voting for a Democrat, then the media telling you that Trump is actually okay is not gonna convince these people
Either. So, you know, it is a two-way street there that I guess kind of works out in our favor. But Trump, to his credit, did not spring all of this on us until after the election. He had been telling us for months and months and months he was gonna do these tariffs, that even conservative economists were warning like, Hey, that's going to destroy the economy. We're going to go into a recession, possibly a depression. The voters didn't care either they chose to ignore that, or they willingly chose to just not educate themselves. I don't know which one it is. Uh, I think it's a combination of both to a degree. But in the end, Trump told you what he was gonna do. He told you it was gonna, he literally sent out a fundraising email that said, I am your retribution. And now you're all terrified.

Outgoing Republican Senator Mitt Romney had some, uh, fairly harsh words for the United States of America after a lot of people over the last few weeks have, of course been freaking out, not only about Donald Trump's cabinet picks, but also about his threats to destroy the entire United States economy. And Mitt Romney just wants people to know that, uh, you voted for the guy, you picked him, he told you he was gonna do it. So don't you dare complain. And this may be one of the only times in my life where I actually agree with MIT Romney, but here is what Mitt Romney said on CNN's State of the Union this past Sunday. Donald Trump won. He won overwhelmingly, you know what? Go ahead and stop right there because no, no, he didn't. He got a plurality of votes. He didn't even get a majority of the votes. He did not cross the 50% mark.
He won by one and a half percent of the popular votes. So don't you dare try to convince people he won. Overwhelmingly he won, absolutely, but it was not by a mandate. So make sure you get that right next time, Romney. But he continued, he said what he was going to do, and that's what he's doing. I mean, people are saying, oh, I don't like this appointment or this policy that he is talking about, but those are all the things he said he was going to do when he ran. So you can't complain about someone who does what he said he was going to do.
And again, on those things, Romney's, a hundred percent right? We have already seen multiple different polls, we have seen posts on social media. You know, Buzzfeed did a, a big collection of posts less than a week after the election of all these people expressing buyer's remorse. A a poll came out just a couple days ago, an AP NORC poll that showed that a majority of Americans have already lost all faith in Donald Trump's decision making abilities. Like 60% of the country has no faith in Donald Trump's ability to make decisions. And that was, you know, a month after a plurality of people went to the polls and said, yep, let's put him back in the White House. Donald Trump is not going to cruise through an easy four years. I mean, I know he does have the media in his pocket now they're gonna do whatever the hell he wants him to do. But even with the media bowing down to Donald Trump, that's not going to convince most people in this country that their lives are better when clearly they will not be under these Trump policies. I mean, hell, if the media telling you that the economy was doing just fine during the Biden years, still led to them not voting for a Democrat, then the media telling you that Trump is actually okay is not gonna convince these people
Either. So, you know, it is a two-way street there that I guess kind of works out in our favor. But Trump, to his credit, did not spring all of this on us until after the election. He had been telling us for months and months and months he was gonna do these tariffs, that even conservative economists were warning like, Hey, that's going to destroy the economy. We're going to go into a recession, possibly a depression. The voters didn't care either they chose to ignore that, or they willingly chose to just not educate themselves. I don't know which one it is. Uh, I think it's a combination of both to a degree. But in the end, Trump told you what he was gonna do. He told you it was gonna, he literally sent out a fundraising email that said, I am your retribution. And now you're all terrified.

History of African Americans began when 20 Africans were dropped in the English colony of Virginia in 1619. They worked as indentured servants who were bound to an employer for a limited number of years. The blacks were documented into slavery in Virginia in 1661 and in all the English colonies by 1750. During that time, they were considered an inferior race with heathen culture. They were forced to work in the farmlands of the New World. They were sold as merchandise by European traders on slave ships across the Atlantic Ocean to the West Indies. At least one-sixth of them died during the journey due to shock, disease and suicide.
During the period of the 17th and 18th centuries, Africans and African Americans were forced to work as slaves on tobacco, rice, and indigo plantations of the southern coast. Legislation was passed by President Thomas Jefferson in 1807 to end the slave trade in America. However, it did nothing but boosted the domestic slave trade in the country. Meanwhile, there were still free black people making up one tenth of the entire African American population. But while in the South, they were subject to restrictions imposed on slaves, in the North, they were not allowed to vote, own any property and travel freely.
Abolitionists in Britain and the United States in the 1840-1860 period developed large, complex propaganda campaigns against slavery. Among the free blacks in the North were emerging African American leaders in many states such as Philadelphia, Boston, and New York City. They initially held national and state conventions in early 1830. However, these people share different opinions on how to deal with slavery and discrimination. Thus, African Americans founded Liberia in West Africa, which foreshadowed the development of Pan-African nationalism.
According to the Missouri Compromise of 1820, there must be an equal number of slave and free states. But this was abrogated, leading to slavery in all American territory. In 1860, Abraham Lincoln was elected president of America on the antislavery platform of the new Republican party. At the beginning of 1861, a movement, known as the Civil War, was launched in an attempt to liberate all the country's slaves. In September 1862 he issued the Emancipation Proclamation, stating that all slaves were to be free.
After the Civil War, nearly four million slaves were freed, gained their citizenship and the right to vote by the Thirteenth, Fourteenth and Fifteenth Amendments respectively. However, all of these new provisions were ignored, especially in the South.
During reconstruction, with leadership from educated African Americans from the North and abroad, they gradually wield political power in the South. However, it didn’t last long due to economic pressure and violent antiblack activities such as ones from Ku Klux Klan. The white supremacy once again dominated, leading to racial separation all over the Southern states. In the post-Reconstruction years, both African Americans in the South and the North struggled to find a job, so many of them decided to migrate westward.
In 1900, nearly 8 million African Americans still lived in the South, however, due to economic depression, more African Americans moved Northwards and were then embroiled in WWI. During the war thousands of black officers were commissioned and many served abroad in labour battalions and service regiments.
Due to the Great Depression of the 1930s, a large number of African Americans lost their jobs amidst inherent discrimination. African Americans were aided with low cost public housing, education and more jobs.
The Civil Rights Movement was the persistent and deliberate step of African Americans in the 1940s and 1950s. The culmination of the Civil Rights Movement was in 1963 when King addressed the crowd of about 250,000 demonstrators gathered on the Mall from Lincoln Memorial. The march aided in securing the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which banned discrimination in voting, public accommodations, and employment.
The dramatic political breakthrough came in the 2008 election, with the election of Barack Obama, the son of a black Kenyan father and a white American mother.
The post-civil rights era is notable for the New Great Migration, in which millions of African Americans have returned to the South, often to pursue increased economic opportunities in now-desegregated southern cities.

Stereotypes of African Americans
Stereotypes and generalizations about African Americans and their culture have evolved within American society dating back to the colonial years of settlement, particularly after slavery became a racial institution that was heritable. The early blackface minstrel shows of the 19th century portrayed blacks as joyous, naive, superstitious, ignorant, and musically inclined—characteristics related to the way slaveholders in earlier years believed them to be.
Such scholars as Patricia A. Turner note "stereotyping objects in popular culture that depict blacks as servile, primitive, or simpleminded and explains how the subtle influences of such seemingly harmless images reinforce anti-black attitudes". As with every other identifiable group, stereotypes continue today. African Americans are often portrayed as violent, lazy and very religious. They also are portrayed as having a love of fried chicken, watermelon, corn bread, Kool-Aid, waffles, sweet tea, and grape drink.

Outgoing Republican Senator Mitt Romney had some, uh, fairly harsh words for the United States of America after a lot of people over the last few weeks have, of course been freaking out, not only about Donald Trump's cabinet picks, but also about his threats to destroy the entire United States economy. And Mitt Romney just wants people to know that, uh, you voted for the guy, you picked him, he told you he was gonna do it. So don't you dare complain. And this may be one of the only times in my life where I actually agree with MIT Romney, but here is what Mitt Romney said on CNN's State of the Union this past Sunday. Donald Trump won. He won overwhelmingly, you know what? Go ahead and stop right there because no, no, he didn't. He got a plurality of votes. He didn't even get a majority of the votes. He did not cross the 50% mark.
He won by one and a half percent of the popular votes. So don't you dare try to convince people he won. Overwhelmingly he won, absolutely, but it was not by a mandate. So make sure you get that right next time, Romney. But he continued, he said what he was going to do, and that's what he's doing. I mean, people are saying, oh, I don't like this appointment or this policy that he is talking about, but those are all the things he said he was going to do when he ran. So you can't complain about someone who does what he said he was going to do.
And again, on those things, Romney's, a hundred percent right? We have already seen multiple different polls, we have seen posts on social media. You know, Buzzfeed did a, a big collection of posts less than a week after the election of all these people expressing buyer's remorse. A a poll came out just a couple days ago, an AP NORC poll that showed that a majority of Americans have already lost all faith in Donald Trump's decision making abilities. Like 60% of the country has no faith in Donald Trump's ability to make decisions. And that was, you know, a month after a plurality of people went to the polls and said, yep, let's put him back in the White House. Donald Trump is not going to cruise through an easy four years. I mean, I know he does have the media in his pocket now they're gonna do whatever the hell he wants him to do. But even with the media bowing down to Donald Trump, that's not going to convince most people in this country that their lives are better when clearly they will not be under these Trump policies. I mean, hell, if the media telling you that the economy was doing just fine during the Biden years, still led to them not voting for a Democrat, then the media telling you that Trump is actually okay is not gonna convince these people
Either. So, you know, it is a two-way street there that I guess kind of works out in our favor. But Trump, to his credit, did not spring all of this on us until after the election. He had been telling us for months and months and months he was gonna do these tariffs, that even conservative economists were warning like, Hey, that's going to destroy the economy. We're going to go into a recession, possibly a depression. The voters didn't care either they chose to ignore that, or they willingly chose to just not educate themselves. I don't know which one it is. Uh, I think it's a combination of both to a degree. But in the end, Trump told you what he was gonna do. He told you it was gonna, he literally sent out a fundraising email that said, I am your retribution. And now you're all terrified.
