Stereopsis (from the Greek στερεο- stereo- meaning "solid", and ὄψιςopsis, "appearance, sight") is a term that is most often used to refer to the perception of depth and 3-dimensional structure obtained on the basis of visual information deriving from two eyes by individuals with normally developed binocular vision. Because the eyes of humans, and many animals, are located at different lateral positions on the head, binocular vision results in two slightly different images projected to the retinas of the eyes. The differences are mainly in the relative horizontal position of objects in the two images. These positional differences are referred to as horizontal disparities or, more generally, binocular disparities. Disparities are processed in the visual cortex of the brain to yield depth perception. While binocular disparities are naturally present when viewing a real 3-dimensional scene with two eyes, they can also be simulated by artificially presenting two different images separately to each eye using a method called stereoscopy. The perception of depth in such cases is also referred to as "stereoscopic depth".
Stereopsis is a genus of fungi in the family Stereopsidaceae. It was formerly placed in the family Meruliaceae in the order Polyporales but was found to belong in its own order along with the genus Clavulicium. The genus was circumscribed by English mycologist Derek Reid in 1965. It contains species that form funnel shaped basidiocarps as well as the corticioid species Stereopsis globosa which was formerly considered a species of Clavulicium. The species Stereopsis humphreyi and Stereopsis vitellina were found to belong in the Agaricales and Atheliales respectively in a molecular phylogenetics study, and because of this do not belong in Stereopsis, but they have not yet been transferred to their own genera.
The Sensory Screening Program has created a tutorial for vision screeners and trainers on how to conduct a stereopsis screening for school-aged children.

TNO Stereotest for testing on amblyopia and stereopsis tests
The TNO stereotest (19th edition) contains six test plates, presented in book form. The test has been primarly designed to detect amblyopia in young children (between 2,5 and 5 years old) but it can also be used for stereopsis testing for adults (depth perception) in occupational test settings.
The test will be delivered with a pair of red-green glasses (please choose between adult or children), the booklet includes instructions in English and Dutch.
For more info visit our website www.smelltest.eu or send us an email: [email protected]

Did you know about the stereoscopic vison?
The term stereoscopic vision refers to the human ability to view with both eyes in similar but slightly different ways. This difference is referred to as retinal or binocular disparity. The brain processes these images in a way that allows the person to slightly see around an obstacle without having to physically moves and allows human to judge distance, which develop their ability to have true depth perception. This process accomplished by matching the different images and then taking into account the differences in the two images. It also helps human to handle and manipulate small objects with their hands.
