Stephen Thomas Ward (19 October 1912 – 3 August 1963) was an English osteopath and artist who was one of the central figures in the 1963 Profumo affair, a British political scandal which brought about the resignation of John Profumo, the Secretary of State for War, and contributed to the defeat of the Conservative government a year later.
In 1945 Ward began practising osteopathy in London, and rapidly became successful and fashionable, with many distinguished clients. In his spare time he also studied at the Slade School, and developed a talent for sketching portraits which provided a profitable sideline. His practice and his art brought considerable social success, and he made many important friends. Among these was Lord Astor, at whose country house, Cliveden, in the summer of 1961, Ward introduced Profumo to a 19-year-old showgirl and night-club model, Christine Keeler. Profumo, who was married to the actress Valerie Hobson, embarked on a brief affair with Keeler, most of their assignations taking place in Ward's home in Wimpole Mews.
In February 2012, Webber first revealed in an interview with Chris Evans that he was considering working on a show based on the Profumo Affair. A first reading of the musical was held in London in early 2013, with its first public outing coming in March, with Milos Karadaglic performing the title song from the show on an ITV special Andrew Lloyd Webber: 40 Musical Years. The track was later released as a digital download.
Officially confirmed on 28 June 2013, producers announced that the initial production would play the Aldwych Theatre, with tickets going on sale immediately. The show with a budget of £2.5 million has a book with lyrics by Don Black and Christopher Hampton and is directed by Richard Eyre, with choreography by Stephen Mear, set design by Rob Howell, lighting design by Peter Mumford and sound by Paul Groothuis.
Stephen Robert Ward (born 20 August 1985) is an Irish professional footballer who plays for English club Burnley. He is able to play in a variety of positions, primarily left back, but also in left midfield and as a striker.
Ward began his senior career with Bohemians in his native Ireland, before moving to English Championship side Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2007. Featuring regularly, he was part of their promotion to the Premier League two years later and played over 230 times for the club. Following consecutive relegations though he was transfer listed, eventually leaving to return to the Premier League with Burnley in 2014.
Since 2011 he has been a regular member of the Republic of Ireland's international squads, and played in all three of their matches at UEFA Euro 2012.

Bohemians
Born in Dublin, Ireland, Ward grew up in Portmarnock and played schoolboy football for Home Farm and Portmarnock. Ward joined Dublin-based League of Ireland side Bohemians from Portmarnock in the summer of 2003. He scored twice on his debut as a substitute against Skerries Town in the FAI Cup on 15 August 2003. His form in Ireland attracted interest from various English sides. The 2006 season with Bohemians ended up being his last and he made a total of 93 appearances for the club, scoring 26 times.

The Profumo Affair: Dr Stephen Ward's Extraordinary Statement (1963) | Political History
On this day in 1963, Conservative Secretary of State for War John Profumo resigned from his post in disgrace. A member of Prime Minister Harold Macmillan's government, Profumo was found to have lied to Parliament after he denied having an affair with 21-year-old model Christine Keeler. The minister told a crowded House of Commons on 22 March 1963 that "there was no impropriety whatsoever in my acquaintanceship with Miss Keeler." In truth, the pair had begun an extra-marital affair in July 1961. The affair took on a greater significance when it was reported that Keeler might have at the same time been involved with Soviet naval attache and suspected KGB officer Captain Yevgeny Ivanov, the model having been introduced to both Profumo and Ivanov by high society osteopath Dr Stephen Ward. Suddenly, at the height of the Cold War, the affair grew from a sex scandal into an issue of national security. This statement by Dr Ward was recorded by ITN on 22 March 1963, the same day that Profumo made his misleading statement to the Commons. In it, Ward denies that Profumo and Keeler had an affair, and defends Captain Yevgeny Ivanov against accusations of spying.
The Profumo Affair rocked British political life. It contributed greatly to the resignation of Prime Minister Harold Macmillan later that year and the subsequent election victory of Harold Wilson's Labour Party. It also shaped forever the lives of those at the heart of the scandal, the greatest casualty being Stephen Ward. In July 1963, Ward was convicted on two counts of living off the earnings of the prostitution of Miss Keeler and her friend and fellow model Mandy Rice-Davies, as the two had made contributions to living costs while staying with Ward. Before the trial's verdict was announced, Ward took his own life by overdosing on barbiturates. The trial has since been described as a gross miscarriage of justice, with historian Richard Davenport-Hines arguing Ward became a scapegoat in a trial that served as an act of "revenge" by the political establishment.
