Stephen Gordon Hendry, MBE (born 13 January 1969) is a Scottish former professional snooker player.
Hendry became the youngest professional snooker player in 1985 aged 16 and, in 1990, he was the youngest-ever snooker World Champion, at the age of 21. He won the World Championship seven times, a record in the modern era, and was snooker's world number one for eight consecutive seasons between 1990 and 1998, and again in 2006/2007. Hendry has the distinction of winning the most world ranking titles (36) and is second on the century break list behind Ronnie O'Sullivan with 775 competitive century breaks. He has made 11 competitive maximum breaks, second only to Ronnie O'Sullivan. In May 2012 he retired from the sport to concentrate on his commercial interests, and also works as a commentator for the BBC.
Career
Amateur years (1981–1985)
Hendry started playing snooker in 1981, aged 12, when his father, Gordon, bought him a child-sized snooker table as a Christmas present. Two years later he won the Scottish U-16 Championship. He also appeared on BBC's Junior version of Pot Black. The following year he won the Scottish Amateur Championship and also became the youngest ever entrant in the World Amateur Championship. In 1985, after retaining the Scottish Amateur Championship, he turned professional. At 16 years and three months old he was the youngest ever professional. Hendry was managed by entrepreneur Ian Doyle.
Stephen James Hendry (born 4 December 1990), known professionally as Stephen James, is a British model. He is a former professional footballer and won international youth caps for Scotland.
The maximum break in snooker under normal circumstances is 147. This is often known as a maximum, a 147, or verbally a one-four-seven, and is amassed by potting all fifteen reds with fifteen blacks for 120 points, followed by all six colours for a further 27 points.
Joe Davis compiled the first officially recognised maximum break in a 1955 exhibition match in London. In 1982 Steve Davis achieved the first official maximum in professional competition, which was also the first televised one. The following year, Cliff Thorburn became the first player to make a maximum in the World Championship. In total, only 58 snooker players have achieved maximums in professional competitions, totaling 116 such breaks. Ronnie O'Sullivan holds the record of thirteen competitive maximum breaks and he also has the record for the fastest competitive maximum break at 5 minutes 20 seconds, set at the 1997 World Championship.
Maximum breaks have gradually become more commonplace in professional snooker. Only 8 maximums were achieved in the 1980s, but 26 were attained in the 1990s and 35 in the 2000s. Thus far in the 2010s, 47 maximums have been achieved. The landmark 100th official maximum break in professional competition was achieved by Mark Selby at the UK Championship on 7 December 2013.

Snooker players' reactions to their first 147 - maximum break compilation
Sometimes it's also the last one. But still, being in a hall of fame is a dream for numerous players. I used an official list of professional maximum breaks and I couldn't find videos of 147's of some players that are on this list. The video includes all 147's I managed to find; some of them are of poor quality and were recorded by someone from the crowd. Still, enjoy.

Completed in 9 minutes and 34 seconds.
This was O'Sullivan's record 10th official 147 maximum breaks, however he had to be persuaded by referee Jan Verhaas to play the final black, as he became aware that there was no distinct prize money for a maximum break in the tournament and planned to end his break at 140.
There was only a £4,000 prize for the highest break of the tournament.

Ronnie O'Sullivan's first 147 break against Mick Price in their second round tie at the 1997 world championship set a still-standing world record for the fastest maximum in the history of the game. Guinness World Records recorded the time of the break at 5 minutes and 20 seconds. However, an investigation undertaken by Deadspin in 2017 revealed that the time recorded by Guinness is incorrect because the timer was started too early on the BBC footage. Breaks are not officially timed in snooker and the official rules of snooker do not specify how they should be timed, instead leaving the timing to the discretion of the broadcaster.
The only timing methodology World Snooker sanctions in its events is the one employed in shot clock events where timing for a player's shot begins when the balls have come to rest from his opponent's previous shot. Under this convention the break would have been timed at 5 minutes and 15 seconds. However, World Snooker has since suggested that a break starts when the player strikes the cueball for the first time in a break which would result in a time of 5 minutes and 8 seconds, and this is the time that World Snooker now officially acknowledges.

The video includes all 147's I managed to find; some of them are of poor quality and were recorded by someone from the crowd. Still, enjoy.

Ronnie O'Sullivan | Maximum Breaks 147 #10
2010 World Open | Ronnie O'Sullivan v Mark King
Completed in 9 minutes and 34 seconds.
This was O'Sullivan's record 10th official 147 maximum breaks, however he had to be persuaded by referee Jan Verhaas to play the final black, as he became aware that there was no distinct prize money for a maximum break in the tournament and planned to end his break at 140.
There was only a £4,000 prize for the highest break of the tournament.

A great classic final between two of the greatest players in snooker history. Close match score, several close frames and steals from both sides.
The statistics shown in the video correspond to the date of the match.
Cesar Muroya created a unique editing technique to extract the essence of the game without losing the drama involved. Contextual information is also an innovation appreciated by viewers.
This format is not intended to substitute the full version but rather to make snooker more accessible to new fans. The fluency and atmosphere of the game stay in a shorter length video, allowing even experienced fans to enjoy snooker at any time.

🚨 STEPHEN HENDRY 🚨
What a genuine conversation this was with the snooker legend Stephen Hendry!
Stephen dominated the game of snooker in his prime winning seven World titles, six Masters titles and five UK Championships.
Dubbed the 'King of the Crucible', Stephen changed the game of snooker and won like no one else before him or since. Many would argue that Stephen is the greatest snooker player of all time.
As with other sporting heroes who dominated their sport, there are priorities that you have to make and characteristics you need to operate at the very top of elite sport.

Title and Description edited on 15th June 2019.
Thanks to everyone who commented that the official time has been changed to 5 minutes 8 seconds.
Blessed with the rare gift of being able to play to a high standard both left-handed and right-handed, he made the fastest 147 on record at the 1997 World Championship, completing the feat in just 5 minutes and 8 seconds. - World Snooker
