The name tartare is sometimes generalized to other raw meat or fish dishes.
Although less common than the completely raw variety, there is a version served in France of steak tartare called tartare aller-retour. It is a mound of mostly raw steak tartare that is lightly seared on one side of the patty.
History
The name is a shortening of the original "à la tartare" or "served with tartar sauce," a dish popular in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
The modern version of steak tartare with raw egg was first served in French restaurants early in the 20th century. What is now generally known as "steak tartare" was then called steack à l'Americaine. Steak tartare was a variation on that dish; the 1921 edition of Escoffier's Le Guide Culinaire defines it as steack à l'Americaine made without egg yolk, served with tartar sauce on the side.

World Famous Steak Tartare
This Steak Tartare is one of the best I've tried and I just love how all these amazing flavors and textures marry together for a perfect bite every time.
Steak tartare recipe:
8 oz (226 grams) beef tenderloin
2 tbsp Savorra mustard
1 egg yolk
1 1/2 tbsp (23 ml) Avocado oil
1 tsp (5 ml) Worcestershire sauce
1/2 tsp Maldon salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1 tbsp brunoise shallots
1 tbsp brunoise Italian parsley
1 tbsp finely sliced chives
1 1/2 tbsp brunoise cornichons
1/2 tbsp finely chopped anchovies
Garlic Butter recipe:
3/4 stick (85 grams) of unsalted butter
3 medium cloves chopped garlic
1 1/2 tbsp chopped Italian parsley
finish with Maldon salt once on bread.

This Steak Tartare is one of the best I've tried and I just love how all these amazing flavors and textures marry together for a perfect bite every time.
Steak tartare recipe:
8 oz (226 grams) beef tenderloin
2 tbsp Savorra mustard
1 egg yolk
1 1/2 tbsp (23 ml) Avocado oil
1 tsp (5 ml) Worcestershire sauce
1/2 tsp Maldon salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1 tbsp brunoise shallots
1 tbsp brunoise Italian parsley
1 tbsp finely sliced chives
1 1/2 tbsp brunoise cornichons
1/2 tbsp finely chopped anchovies
Garlic Butter recipe:
3/4 stick (85 grams) of unsalted butter
3 medium cloves chopped garlic
1 1/2 tbsp chopped Italian parsley
finish with Maldon salt once on bread.

Beef Tartare:
Servings 3 to 4 people.
1 small shallot, diced
1 tbsp Dijon mustard
15ml Worcestershire sauce
2-4 drops of Tabasco
50g ketchup
25g cornichons, chopped
25g capers, chopped
A small handful of flat-leaf parsley chopped
250g beef tenderloin, minced
salt and pepper
To serve:
4 quail eggs wash and clean shells
8 to 10 thin sliced croutons, olive oil and salt Maldon.

The name tartare is sometimes generalized to other raw meat or fish dishes.
Although less common than the completely raw variety, there is a version served in France of steak tartare called tartare aller-retour. It is a mound of mostly raw steak tartare that is lightly seared on one side of the patty.
History
The name is a shortening of the original "à la tartare" or "served with tartar sauce," a dish popular in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
The modern version of steak tartare with raw egg was first served in French restaurants early in the 20th century. What is now generally known as "steak tartare" was then called steack à l'Americaine. Steak tartare was a variation on that dish; the 1921 edition of Escoffier's Le Guide Culinaire defines it as steack à l'Americaine made without egg yolk, served with tartar sauce on the side.
