Kelly Spill’s Story | Stand Up To Cancer Telecast 2023
“Cancer has given me a whole new perspective on life. I see how important it is to value the small moments and I am extremely grateful for each day.” 💛
Kelly Spill was pregnant with her son in 2019 when she began noticing worrying symptoms, and after several misdiagnoses a colonoscopy turned up positive for rectal cancer. The potential treatments included chemo, radiation, resection, and colostomy bag for the rest of her life. However, a research nurse let her know about a new clinical trial led by #StandUpToCancer’s Colorectal Cancer Dream Team; she would be the fourth person in the U.S. to participate. Thankfully, her tumor began to shrink, and no radiation was needed.

While studying at university, Emily was diagnosed with a rare incurable spinal cord tumour. Just six months later, in May 2021, Emily passed away. Her mum, Lisa, shares their story.

Elizabeth's story | Neuroendocrine Cancer | Stand Up To Cancer
At three years old, Elizabeth was diagnosed with a rare type of neuroendocrine carcinoma after discovering a growth near her eye. After multiple surgeries, in 2020, doctors removed Elizabeth’s eye and some of the surrounding tissue to prevent it from re-occurring.
While supporting Elizabeth through her four cancer diagnoses, her mother, Charlotte, was diagnosed with breast cancer just weeks after giving birth to her third child. Charlotte died in October 2022, aged 38. The day before Charlotte’s funeral, the family was given the devastating news that Elizabeth’s cancer had also returned and was now incurable.

Daniel's Story | Sarcomatoid Carcinoma | Stand Up To Cancer | 2019
Daniel, also known as PeeWeeToms, started blogging his journey with Sarcomatoid carcinoma to show people what he was going through.
On 23 February 2018 Daniel went into hospital for an operation after finding another lump in his chest. But by April, they realised it was inoperable and that the surgery didn't work.
Over the following months, Daniel’s condition deteriorated quickly. In September 2018, just two weeks after marrying his long-term girlfriend, Becca, he sadly passed away.
“We made so many memories in the short time we had together, I just wish things were different, it's not fair.”

Liam was diagnosed with osteoblastic osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer, when he was 13. In 2020, Liam started a YouTube channel to show others who are experiencing cancer what it’s like, and what they can expect.

Over the following months, Daniel’s condition deteriorated quickly. In September 2018, just two weeks after marrying his long-term girlfriend, Becca, he sadly passed away.
“We made so many memories in the short time we had together, I just wish things were different, it's not fair.”
