10% on the portion between £925,001 and £1.5 million
12% on anything above £1.5 million
First-Time Buyers: First-time buyers receive relief on properties up to £425,000, paying no SDLT on the first £425,000 and a reduced rate on amounts up to £625,000. Above £625,000, standard rates apply.
Second Homes and Buy-to-Let: A 3% surcharge applies to additional residential properties (e.g., second homes or buy-to-let properties), charged on top of standard rates. This surcharge applies to properties over £40,000.
Non-Resident Surcharge: Non-UK residents purchasing residential property pay an additional 2% surcharge, in addition to other applicable rates and surcharges.
Temporary and Regional Relief: Temporary changes can occur (e.g., COVID-related holidays) and certain regional variances may apply, such as in Wales (Land Transaction Tax) and Scotland (Land and Buildings Transaction Tax), each with different thresholds and rates.
Stamp duty must be paid within 14 days of property purchase completion, with penalties for late payments.

In the UK, Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT) is applied to residential property purchases above a certain threshold. Here are the main elements:
Standard Rates: Stamp duty rates apply progressively based on the property’s purchase price. As of the latest updates:
0% on the first £250,000
5% on the portion between £250,001 and £925,000
10% on the portion between £925,001 and £1.5 million
12% on anything above £1.5 million
First-Time Buyers: First-time buyers receive relief on properties up to £425,000, paying no SDLT on the first £425,000 and a reduced rate on amounts up to £625,000. Above £625,000, standard rates apply.
Second Homes and Buy-to-Let: A 3% surcharge applies to additional residential properties (e.g., second homes or buy-to-let properties), charged on top of standard rates. This surcharge applies to properties over £40,000.
Non-Resident Surcharge: Non-UK residents purchasing residential property pay an additional 2% surcharge, in addition to other applicable rates and surcharges.
Temporary and Regional Relief: Temporary changes can occur (e.g., COVID-related holidays) and certain regional variances may apply, such as in Wales (Land Transaction Tax) and Scotland (Land and Buildings Transaction Tax), each with different thresholds and rates.
Stamp duty must be paid within 14 days of property purchase completion, with penalties for late payments.
