Spider bite

A spider bite, also known as arachnidism, is an injury resulting from the bite of a spider. The effects of most bites are not serious. Most bites result in mild symptoms around the area of the bite. Rarely they may produce a necrotic skin wound or severe pain.

Most spiders do not cause bites that are of importance. For a bite to be significant, substantial envenomation is required. Bites from the widow spiders involve a neurotoxic venom which produces a condition known as latrodectism. Symptoms may include: pain which may be at the bite or involve the chest and abdomen, sweating, muscle cramps and vomiting among others. Bites from the recluse spiders cause the condition loxoscelism, in which local necrosis of the surrounding skin and widespread breakdown of red blood cells may occur. Headaches, vomiting and a mild fever may also occur. Other spiders that can cause significant bites include: the Australian funnel web spiders and the South American wandering spider.

Efforts to prevent bites include clearing clutter and the use of pesticides. Most spider bites are managed with supportive care such as NSAIDs (including ibuprofen) for pain and antihistamines for itchiness.Opioids may be used if the pain is severe. While an antivenom exists for black widow spider venom, it is associated with anaphylaxis and therefore not commonly used in the United States. Antivenom against funnel web spider venom improves outcomes. Surgery may be required to repair the area of injured skin from some recluse bites.

Most spiders are actually a “live and let live” sort of creature and they don’t really bother people for the most part. Certainly spiders can be creepy for a lot of people, but rarely are they ever aggressive or bite humans. Spiders attack things that they want to eat. Even though we have a tendency to overload our plates with more we than we can fit in our stomachs, spiders are not likely to make the same mistake…especially to such a grand scale. A spider thinking it could consume even a small child is the equivalent of one of us thinking we need to pull a whole elephant out of the buffet for our lunch plate. Many spiders actually don’t even have strong enough fangs to pierce human skin, nor is their venom strong enough to do much damage to humans. Usually, a spider’s bite is venomous to their prey, but when you scale things up to a human size, it might just be a small itch, or some minor pain or swelling. In many cases, something that you think might be a spider bite or that looks like spider bite symptoms, aren’t actually spider bite symptoms. It could be a skin issue, allergy, pimple, ingrown hair, bed sores, or sometimes even cancer. We really recommend reaching out to a doctor if you do have any skin issues or other things you may think are spider bite symptoms as a pest control service can do little to identify what pest problem you may have from a “bite” alone, nor would they have any type of medical advice or treatments they could give you. Just recently we helped a mother who was sure that her child had been bitten by a spider because of a pair of puncture marks that were perfectly sized for a spider. She found out it was some type of infection and the child was started on shots and antibiotics as needed. If you really do have a spider bite, here are 8 spider bite symptoms you can expect to see Again depending on where you live the chances of running into a highly dangerous spider in your home rarely happens, but if it were to happen, here are a few things you should look out for as possible spider bite symptoms. 1. Headache: Your body does what it can to try and fight off the incoming spider bite venom, unfortunately this causes more blood to flow to the area of the bite as a defense mechanism which also takes blood away from your head which can cause a headache. As the venom flows through your body, it can also go into your brain causing head pain as well. 2. Fever: Depending on how venomous the spider was that bit you, it could cause mild itching on up to causing a fever as your body tries to neutralize the venom in your blood. 3. Itchiness and bite marks: Again, in most cases, spiders that rarely would bite you more often than not are not the dangerous or deadly spiders you may have heard about. In these cases, the bite could cause redness and bite marks as well as cause itchiness as your body fights off the mild venom. Overall, these symptoms are from a few potentially dangerous spider bites, but in most cases, spider bite symptoms will likely be in the range of mild pain to itchiness and mild swelling. As we stated above, most of the time, the things you think are a spider bite aren’t actually a bite at all, unless you actually saw the spider bite you, it probably isn’t a spider bite you are dealing with. If you have excess spiders in your home, a major concern shouldn’t be that they will bite you, but more so that you probably have other pest issues you aren’t seeing. Spiders only feed on other pests and insects so the reason they are in your home is that you have an ample food source for them. Spider bite

A spider bite, also known as arachnidism, is an injury resulting from the bite of a spider. The effects of most bites are not serious. Most bites result in mild symptoms around the area of the bite. Rarely they may produce a necrotic skin wound or severe pain.

Most spiders do not cause bites that are of importance. For a bite to be significant, substantial envenomation is required. Bites from the widow spiders involve a neurotoxic venom which produces a condition known as latrodectism. Symptoms may include: pain which may be at the bite or involve the chest and abdomen, sweating, muscle cramps and vomiting among others. Bites from the recluse spiders cause the condition loxoscelism, in which local necrosis of the surrounding skin and widespread breakdown of red blood cells may occur. Headaches, vomiting and a mild fever may also occur. Other spiders that can cause significant bites include: the Australian funnel web spiders and the South American wandering spider.

Efforts to prevent bites include clearing clutter and the use of pesticides. Most spider bites are managed with supportive care such as NSAIDs (including ibuprofen) for pain and antihistamines for itchiness.Opioids may be used if the pain is severe. While an antivenom exists for black widow spider venom, it is associated with anaphylaxis and therefore not commonly used in the United States. Antivenom against funnel web spider venom improves outcomes. Surgery may be required to repair the area of injured skin from some recluse bites.
