Special education (also known as special needs education, aided education, vocational education, and limb care authority education) is the practice of educating students with special educational needs in a way that addresses their individual differences and needs. Ideally, this process involves the individually planned and systematically monitored arrangement of teaching procedures, adapted equipment and materials, and accessible settings. These interventions are designed to help learners with special needs achieve a higher level of personal self-sufficiency and success in school and their community, than may be available if the student were only given access to a typical classroom education.
In the United States, special needs is a term used in clinical diagnostic and functional development to describe individuals who require assistance for disabilities that may be medical, mental, or psychological. For instance, the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders and the International Classification of Diseases 9th edition both give guidelines for clinical diagnosis. Types of special needs vary in severity. People with autism, Down syndrome, dyslexia, blindness, ADHD, or cystic fibrosis, for example, may be considered to have special needs. However, special needs can also include cleft lips and/or palates, port-wine stains, or missing limbs.
In the United Kingdom, special needs often refers to special needs within an educational context. This is also referred to as special educational needs (SEN). In the United States, 18.5 percent of all children under the age of 18 (over 13.5 million children) had special health care needs as of 2005.
More narrowly, it is a legal term applying in foster care in the United States, derived from the language in the Adoption and Safe Families Act of 1997. It is a diagnosis used to classify children as needing "more" services than those children without special needs who are in the foster care system. It is a diagnosis based on behavior, childhood and family history, and is usually made by a health care professional.
Special Needs is a dark comedy/satire about three reality TV producers creating show about people with physical and mental disabilities. The film was written, produced, and directed by Isaak James, who also starred.
Critical Reaction
DVD Talk rated it "highly recommended", calling it "an instant candidate for independent comedy of the year ". Variety called it "a rip-roaring good time" that succeeded with a subject that could have been disastrous. Blogcritics found it "tastelessly hilarious". French site Horreur.com was a bit more measured in its praise, suggesting a mixture of laughter and gritting of teeth as an appropriate reaction but awarded a rating of 5/6.
Release
It was an official selection at the Calgary International Film Festival and Westwood International Film Festival. It was released on DVD by Troma.

Special Education Needs: 'My battle to get an equal education'
The BBC has obtained exclusive evidence that special education needs (SEN) support placements significantly drop post the age of 16 for students with SEN across London.
FOI data shows that more than 13,000 SEN placements were offered to under 16s in 2019-2021. But for 16-25 year olds 2,508 placements were given in that time.
Claude, 23, from Richmond upon Thames, has been out of education since 2017, after not being granted an appropriate placement by his local education authority.
After years of tribunals with his LEA and emails to the Department for Education, Claude has now created a petition called 'Claude's SEN Law'. He wants to ensure other young people across the UK don't go through what he has.

I can't fake my life All of the fucking time I wear a hide of lies To protect me from you But now you're in my sights Endless fire Gone Suffocated by your light Enslaved by golden handcuffs But not today
