Inside the Forgotten War in Darfur, Where the Killing Never Stopped
DARFUR, Sudan — The jagged peaks of the Jebel Marra mountains rise suddenly out of an endless stretch of desert in western Sudan’s Darfur region. Rebel soldiers, many of whom came here to fight against the government nearly 20 years ago, man their posts.
Today civilians here live in relative safety after decades of war, but these mountaintop villages are completely cut off from the rest of Sudanese society. To many, trauma from decades of bombs dropped on them by their own government is compounded by their total isolation.
A team from VICE News are the first outside journalists to access the last rebel stronghold in Jebel Marra in five years. What we found is an area still completely cut off from Sudan and still functionally at war. Nearly a year after a historic revolution toppled Presi...

Dagalo's RSF accused of ethnic cleansing in west Darfur | World at War
The civil war that is raging in Sudan has almost disappeared from the global headlines. But that does not mean that the fighting in the troubled nation has stopped. There are now troubling reports that are emerging from West Darfur where the rebel RSF forces are again being accused of ethnic cleansing.
Remember, 20 years ago, the Janjaweed Militia, from which the rapid support forces had emerged had wreaked terrible violence on the people in Darfur.
And now, an estimated 5000 people have been killed and over 8000 others have been injured in the capital of West Darfur in a war that has been described as the battle of the generals. So why is the civil war in Sudan increasingly acquiring an ethnic dimension

West Darfur governor abducted, killed as war in Sudan spreads
A regional governor has been killed after publicly blaming the deaths of civilians on Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) amid an expansion of the country’s almost two-month-old war into cities in the west of the country,
West Darfur state governor Khamis Abakar was killed on Wednesday, an armed group he commanded said, hours after he accused the RSF and allied fighters of “genocide“.
Details on his death were unavailable but the Reuters news agency reported that two government sources said the RSF was responsible for the killing.
The Sudanese army also took to social media to accuse the RSF of “kidnapping and assassinating” the governor. The killing had added a “new chapter” to the RSF’s “record of barbaric crimes that it has been committing against all the Sudanese people”...

The killing had added a “new chapter” to the RSF’s “record of barbaric crimes that it has been committing against all the Sudanese people”, the army said on Facebook, calling the incident a “brutal act”.
Al Jazeera’s Hiba Morgan reports from Omdurman, across the Nile River from the Sudanese capital Khartoum.

Nearly a year after a historic revolution toppled President Omar al-Bashir, some in Jebel Marra haven’t even heard he is no longer in power.

On December 19, 2018, protests broke out in small cities throughout Sudan amid an economic crisis, eventually reaching the country's capital, Khartoum. These protests posed the biggest challenge to Sudan's longest-serving dictator, Omar al-Bashir, who throughout his regime did everything he could to remain in power. Bashir relied on various security sectors to protect him from being overthrown. However, his plan ultimately failed on April 11, 2019, when the country's army, the Sudanese Armed Forces, and a paramilitary force, the Rapid Support Forces, sided with the protesters and carried out a military coup, toppling Bashir.
The end of Bashir's regime brought hope to the protesters, but they remained skeptical about the men who had overthrown him. SAF’s Abdel Fattah Burhan and RSF’s Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (aka Hemeti) took control of the country after the coup and made repeated promises to hand over power to civilians, which would put Sudan on a democratic path. But they continuously delayed fulfilling their promises and instead turned against each other, vying for power in Sudan. The two men have brutally interrupted Sudan’s pro-democracy revolution.
The fighting between the two men's forces started out in Sudan's capital, Khartoum, and spread all over the country. Recent ceasefire breakdowns have led to more bursts of violence, especially in Darfur, a region still reeling from the aftermath of a genocide at the hands of Bashir's regime.
Watch the latest episode of Atlas to understand how their feud has undermined the democratic aspirations of the protesters and put Sudan at risk of a civil war.

Darfur (Trailer)
Darfur - Behind the Scenes, the sudan drama by Uwe Boll.
Unaware of what they would find, a group of international Journalists visit a small village in Darfur under the protection of the African Union (AU). They were never the same again... Darfur has been termed genocide. The crisis has claimed the lives of over 300,000 civilians. The state sponsored Janjaweed Militia, with the support of Sudanese Government Forces, are responsible for the majority of the rape, torture and murder. 2.8 million Darfuri have been displaced within Sudan. 3.8 million people are dependent on international humanitarian aid. One half of these people are beyond the reach of such help.

Google Darfur (Full 2020 Release)
This 2020 release of Google Darfur has been updated to reflect the changes that have taken place since 2007. Since 2003, militias known as Janjaweed, now known as Rapid Support Forces (RSF), under orders from the Government of Sudan, have killed over 200,000 civilians.

This 2020 release of Google Darfur has been updated to reflect the changes that have taken place since 2007. Since 2003, militias known as Janjaweed, now known as Rapid Support Forces (RSF), under orders from the Government of Sudan, have killed over 200,000 civilians.
Over 2.5 million have been forced into refugee camps.
These numbers do not include the RSF victims in Libya or Yemen.
In a bid to secure their oil & mineral interests inside of Africa, many of the world's major governments pour weapons and money into the region and remain indifferent to the carnage, allowing the violence to spread further.
Frustrated by the situation, in February 2007, 2 North Americans traveled to Eastern Chad and teamed up with 2 Chadians. Google Darfur is the story we captured.
Google Darfur was entered into the International Criminal Court case against the President of Sudan, Omar Al Bashir, for crimes against humanity, war crimes and genocide.

Nearly a year after a historic revolution toppled President Omar al-Bashir, some in Jebel Marra haven’t even heard he is no longer in power.

Stop the genocide now: http://bit.ly/QoxHpQ
Darfur Now is a story of hope in the midst of one of humanity's darkest hours -- a call to action for people everywhere to end the catastrophe unfolding in Darfur, Sudan. In this documentary, the struggles and achievements of six different individuals from inside Darfur and around the world bring to light the tragedy in Sudan and show how the actions of one person can make a difference to millions.
In Darfur Now, we meet: a politically inexperienced college student who dedicates himself to getting a bill passed to keep California State funds out of Sudan; a Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court in The Hague that relentlessly investigates the complex and horrifying crimes in Darfur; actors Don Cheadle and George Clooney who travel the world to pressure government officials and world leaders to take action about the situation in Darfur; a Darfur Village refugee that has taken on the challenging task of leading and protecting a camp of 47,000 internally displaced Darfurians; an Ecuadorian, whose socially aware and politically committed parents inspired him to leave behind his own family to lead the World Food Program in dangerous West Darfur; and a mother whose own son was beaten to death as he clung to her back as she fled her West Darfur Village when it was attacked who has to choose between abandoning her home or joining the rebel forces.
In addition to these six people, the film also features His Excellency Abldalmahmood Abdalhaleem Mohamad, Sudan's Ambassador to the United Nations in New York. A career diplomat, His Excellency articulates Sudan's position on the Darfur crisis from the perspective of a government that feels it has not been fairly characterized by the world's media.
The struggles of each these individuals outlines a different facet of the ongoing crisis in Darfur -- but they all point to the need for immediate action. Each story is an inspiration for ordinary individuals to become involved to resolve the conflict and bring hope and peace to the people of Darfur.
