SOUND DESIGN for FILMMAKING | Tutorial
Every sound effect of mine in this tutorial/video : https://bit.ly/My-Sound-Effects

Bass Sound Design: 808s, Plucks, Growls and Sub Bass
This is the 3rd video in my sound design series which will introduce common bass tones and show you how to create them in any synth.
The synth I use in these tutorials is called Xfer SERUM - I use this because I find that it is one of the easiest to teach with. These synthesis principles can be used with most synths.

The Beautiful Lies of Sound Design | Tasos Frantzolas | TEDxAthens
From gunshots in a canyon to underwater submarine engines, this audio-rich talk explores the role of sound design in modern storytelling.
Soundsnap.com founder Tasos Frantzolas looks at a variety of multimedia examples to show the ways that sound designers ‘lie’ in creating the sonic palette of film, television and interactive media.
Tasos Frantzolas grew up in Athens and began producing music at the age of 13. After attending SAE London for Audio Engineering, he enjoyed a brief stint in the UK’s music and post-production industries. In 2006, he returned to Greece to found Soundsnap.com, a sound effects and loop library that has since grown to encompass over one million users and become the most popular sound effects destination worldwide.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the...

In this tutorial of a basic travel style montage/film I touch on a few tips and topics on how to manipulate sound effects and where to use various elements such as risers, drones, ambience, underscores and transition type sound design to bring your visuals to life.
I created this Essential Flow SFX pack/bundle with my close friend and composer Daniel Deuschle after realising I owned so many different sound packs and only used 1 or 2 sounds from each. So we set out to create over 120+ essential sound elements for creators who want to add another layer of depth to their edits. This sound effect pack is something I've been incorporating into my edits and found is extremely useful for various types of edits. I really hope these essential sounds can be of use to others and after time we could continue to cater more variety for all your needs.

This is the 3rd video in my sound design series which will introduce common bass tones and show you how to create them in any synth.
The synth I use in these tutorials is called Xfer SERUM - I use this because I find that it is one of the easiest to teach with. These synthesis principles can be used with most synths.

▶TIMESTAMPS
0:00 - Intro
1:30 - 808 Bass
Originally from the TR 808 drum machine, we will synthesise it from a basic Sine wave.
This is a common bass used in many genres of music. Originally widespread in hip hop, it has now moved into pop music with full force and you'll likely hear this sort of bass in the charts and as the exclusive bass sound from any producer with the prefix "lil".
6:40 - Pluck/House Bass
Very common in dance and house music. This pluck bass provides a really solid foundation to the song and is easily heard on smaller monitor systems too!
Use a simple Square, Sine or Saw wave and adjust the filter envelope to give a really solid pluck. Try using a lower octave than I used in the video (Headphones were tricking me with the bass!)
11:30 - Growl Bass
A fundamental of many genres including dance and dubstep. This bass is impossible to miss and thanks to its rich harmonic content, it will sound clear even on small phone speakers.
Use a single Saw wave for the bass and a stereo spread of saw waves in a higher octave to make a really wide and professional sounding bass. Be careful with stereo widening effects and check-in mono to make sure the bass sounds as epic in the real world as it does in your studio!
15:40 - Sub
A classic. Use a sine wave and play low octaves. Try adding distortion (tube, tape, preamp) to make it cut through on smaller speakers. Sidechain to the kick and it'll be perfect.

This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx
