Ned Rorem (born October 23, 1923) is an American composer and diarist, best known and most praised for his song settings. He won a Pulitzer Prize in 1976.
In 1966 he published The Paris Diary of Ned Rorem, which, with his later diaries, has brought him some notoriety, as he is honest about his and others' sexuality, describing his relationships with Leonard Bernstein, Noël Coward, Samuel Barber, and Virgil Thomson, and outing several others (Aldrich and Wotherspoon, eds., 2001). Rorem has written extensively about music as well. These essays are collected in anthologies such as Setting the Tone, Music From the Inside Out, and Music and People. His prose is much admired, not least for its barbed observations about such prominent musicians as Pierre Boulez. Rorem has composed in a chromatic tonal idiom throughout his career, and he is not hesitant to attack the orthodoxies of the avant-garde.
Why There Are Mountains is an independently released album by indie rock band Cymbals Eat Guitars. The album was initially self-released, then re-released after the band signed to Sister's Den Records in late 2009. The LP version of the album is currently only available via Insound.

Why Mountains Are In So Many Powerful Bible Stories
Why do so many stories in the Bible include mountains? It’s not a coincidence—mountains were places of deep symbolism for the biblical authors. Watch our new video, The Mountain, to see how mountains in the Bible are used to show the unique way that God relates to humans.
In this video, you will learn…
- The significance of mountains in the ancient imagination
- Why God put humanity on a mountain in the beginning
- Why humanity was driven from the mountain
- The only way back up to God’s mountain presence

Why are mountains so important?
CREAF and NEMOR have made a video explaining why mountains are so important.
Mountains help to rain; they filter the rainwater and moderately direct it downstream. They provide sediments and vital nutrients for the crops of the plains and deltas. They supply us with wood, firewood, mushrooms, fruits, meat, dairy products and fabrics. Many sports can be done in the mountains too, and, therefore, they attract tourists. They also offer us peace and leisure and concentrate an often unique biodiversity that makes all these benefits possible.
However, mountains are also under a lot of pressure, and climate change, as well as other changes in the way we use the land, is putting all their benefits at risk.
