Hugh Marsh (born June 5, 1955 in Montreal, Quebec) is a violinist from Toronto, known for his electric violin sound. Marsh was nominated for a 2007 Juno Award in the best contemporary jazz album category.
History
Early days
Marsh was born and brought up in Montreal. He learned to play the violin from the age of five but it was when he tried playing the saxophone while at high school that led to him exploring jazz, funk and rhythm and blues. With his father's encouragement, he transferred these improvisation skills to the electric violin. He is the brother of musician Fergus Marsh.
Career
In 1978, Marsh was invited by jazz musician Moe Koffman to perform with him in a concert series at the Art Gallery of Ontario in Toronto. This led to gigs at top Toronto jazz club George's Spahgetti House and to performances with Canadian jazz musicians Marsh had long admired such as Doug Riley, Claude Ranger, Sonny Greenwich and Don Thompson.
After meeting Bruce Cockburn in 1979, Cockburn invited Marsh to join his band for recordings and tours.
Some Other Time is an album by American jazz pianist John Hicks recorded in 1981 and released on the Theresa label. The 1995 Evidence CD reissue added three bonus tracks.
Reception
Allmusic awarded the album 3 stars stating "A flexible jazz pianist who can fit in comfortably in settings ranging from bop to fairly free, John Hicks is in excellent form during this straightforward set".
Track listing
All compositions by John Hicks except as indicated
Wish You Were Here is the sixth album by rock band Badfinger and their third consecutive album produced by Chris Thomas. It was recorded in the spring of 1974 at Colorado's Caribou Ranch and released in November of that year on Warner Bros. Records. Wish You Were Here was the second and last album the band released on the Warner's label.
History
Although the album received a favourable review in Rolling Stone magazine and is sometimes considered to be the band's best work, it was withdrawn from record stores in early 1975, seven weeks after release, because of a lawsuit between Warner music publishing and Badfinger's management. The album's abbreviated manufacturing run and short tenure on the market has made the original LP relatively rare.
Before being recalled, Wish You Were Here had time enough to chart, peaking at number 148 in the United States. In the 1990s it was re-released in CD format in Japan and Germany only. The album was eventually issued on CD in the US in 2007. Many of the tracks have appeared on Badfinger compilation albums.
On the Town is a musical with music by Leonard Bernstein and book and lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green, based on Jerome Robbins' idea for his 1944 ballet Fancy Free, which he had set to Bernstein's music. The musical introduced several popular and classic songs, among them "New York, New York", "Lonely Town", "I Can Cook, Too" (for which Bernstein also wrote the lyrics), and "Some Other Time". The story concerns three American sailors on a 24-hour shore leave in New York City during wartime 1944. Each of the three sailors meets and quickly connects with a woman.
On the Town was first produced on Broadway in 1944 and was made into a film in 1949, although the film replaced all but three of the original Broadway songs with Hollywood-written substitutes. The show has enjoyed a number of major revivals. The musical integrates dance into its storytelling: Robbins made a number of ballets and extended dance sequences for the show, including the "Imaginary Coney Island" ballet.

CLAIRE: Twenty-four hours can go so fast, You look around, the day has passed. When you're in love, Time is precious stuff; Even a lifetime isn't enough. Where has the time all gone to? Haven't done half the things we want to. Oh, well, we'll catch up Some other time This day was just a token, Too many words are still unspoken. Oh, well, we'll catch up Some other time. Just when the fun is starting, Comes the time for parting, But let's be glad for what we've had And what's to come. There's so much more embracing Still to be done, but time is racing. Oh, well, we'll catch up Some other time. HILDY: Didn't get half my wishes, Never have seen you dry the dishes. Oh, well, we'll catch up Some other time. Can't satisfy my craving, Never have watched you while you're shaving. Oh, well, we'll catch up Some other time. CLAIRE, HILDY, CHIP, OZZIE: Just when the fun's beginning, Comes the final-inning... OZZIE: Haven't had time to wake up, Seeing you there without your make-up. Oh, well, we'll catch up Some other time. ALL: Just when the fun is starting, Comes the time for parting, But let's be glad for what we've had And what's to come. There's so much more embracing Still to be done, but time is racing. Oh, well, we'll catch up
