Solute, Solvent and Solution | Chemistry
In this animated lecture, I will teach you about solution, solvent and solute in chemistry. Also, you will learn that why water is called universal solvent.
Q: What is a solution in chemistry?
Ans: In chemistry, a solution is defined as "A homogeneous mixture of two or more substances joined together physically is called a solution. For example, when you add some salt into the water, it completely dissolve in the water to form a homogeneous mixture or uniform composition. This homogeneous mixture of salt and water is known as solution.
Q: What is a solute?.
Ans: The component of a solution which is present in smaller amount is called solute.
For example, when you dissolve sugar in the water to form a solution, sugar is present in smaller amount in the water. So, sugar is a solute.

Solute: The substance that dissolves to form a solution is called a solute.
Solvent: The substance in which a solute will dissolve is called a solvent.

TYPES OF SOLVENTS
Let's see the types of solvents.
There are two main types: polar and non-polar.
A non-polar solvent is one whose molecule has the negative charge of electrons distributed homogeneously throughout the molecule.
A polar solvent has a molecule with a positive side and a negative side.
There is this general rule of solubility:
Polar solvents dissolve in other polar solvents.
Nonpolar solvents dissolve in other nonpolar solvents.
But polar solvents do not dissolve in nonpolar solvents.
These are some polar solvents: water, ethanol, and acetic acid.
These are some nonpolar solvents: oil, turpentine, and acetone.
The polar solvents dissolve into each other.
The non-polar solvents dissolve into each other.

What Are Solvents?
Have you ever walked into a decorative supplier and wondered why there are so many different solvents on the shelf? What do all these solvents do, and why do they have so many different ones? Understanding how solvents effect concrete sealers and coatings can be very helpful when working with these products. Solvents also have some other great uses in decorative concrete that will help solve problems when they arise.

But the polar solvents do not dissolve in the non-polar solvents.
There is a surface between both solvents called the interface.
There is a procedure for mixing polar and non-polar solvents with each other: using a detergent.
Put a polar solvent and a non-polar solvent in contact in the same container.
Since they are both transparent, add iodine.
Iodine dissolves well in non-polar solvents and poorly in polar solvents.
When it dissolves, it takes on a pink color.
Add the detergent and shake.
Detergents have long molecules with a polar end and a non-polar end.
The polar end of the molecule binds to the polar solvent and the non-polar end binds to the non-polar solvent.
And, in the end, the two types of solvents form a homogeneous phase, that is, they mix.

it doesn't seem so long ago
when i loved you my radio
you promised me so much but now you've changed
you always played my favorite songs
those robot disco marathons
inspired me to buy my first machines
you've changed
and i don't know why
so strange you never said goodbye
i felt betrayed and so i turned
to television yet i've yearned
for you my radio you complete me
you used to play my favorite tracks
those basslines and synthetic claps
ohh radio i miss those sounds the most

Have you ever walked into a decorative supplier and wondered why there are so many different solvents on the shelf? What do all these solvents do, and why do they have so many different ones? Understanding how solvents effect concrete sealers and coatings can be very helpful when working with these products. Solvents also have some other great uses in decorative concrete that will help solve problems when they arise.
