The Snoqualmie are also known as the Snoqualmu, Snoqualmoo, Snoqualmick, Snoqualamuke, or Snuqualmi. Their autonym is Sduk-al-bixw, meaning "strong people of status."
Historically Snoqualmie people lived in 58 longhouses in 16 villages, with a population of 3,000–4,000. In the mid-19th century, their homelands had four districts: Monroe, Tolt, Fall City, and North Bend. They had an influential chief Patkanin.
Some Snoqualmies settled onto the Tulalip Reservation after signing the Point Elliott Treaty with the Washington Territory in 1855, but many remained in their ancestral homelands around the Snoqualmie Valley and Lake Sammamish. At that time they were one of the largest tribes in the Puget Sound region numbering around 4,000.

Snoqualmie Falls
At 268 ft Snoqualmie Falls is majestic and awe inspiring!
For the Snoqualmie Tribe, the Snoqualmie Falls is central to their culture, beliefs, and spirituality. The Falls, according to the People of the Snoqualmie Tribe, is “the place where First Woman and First Man were created by the Moon the Transformer” and “where prayers were carried up to the Creator by great mists that rise from the powerful flow”
Snoqualmie Falls is easy to visit and is off of Highway 202. There are multiple parking areas and a bridge to cross over the highway. There are bathrooms and plenty of signage to help you enjoy your visit!
I recommend visiting the Snoqualmie Falls closer to sunset or sunrise for the best experience. But honestly any time of day is amazing!

When the river is running at high volumes the spray, the sound, and the power of the river is incredible!
Just remember though, if the river is raging at the Snoqualmie Falls, that the Lower Valley farm land and towns of Fall City, Carnation, and Duvall could be experiencing significant flood damage.
So next time you need to bring an out of town visitor for a great sight seeing opportunity take them to Snoqualmie Falls! Famous from the cult show “Twin Peaks” and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Snoqualmie Falls is well worth a visit!
In 2019 the Snoqualmie Indian Tribe purchased Snoqualmie Falls and the Salish Lodge as well as land surrounding the river.
