Slavery is a social-economic system under which persons known as slaves are deprived of personal freedom and compelled to perform labor or services.
The following is a list of enslaved people,in alphabetical order by first name. There are several names which have been added under the letter representing their last name.
Absalom Jones, (1746 – February 13, 1818), former slave who purchased his freedom, abolitionist and clergyman – first ordained black priest of the Episcopal Church.
Slavery is a legal or economic system in which principles of property law are applied to humans allowing them to be classified as property, to be owned, bought and sold accordingly, and they cannot withdraw unilaterally from the arrangement. While a person is a slave, the owner is entitled to the productivity of the slave's labour, without any remuneration. The rights and protection of the slave may be regulated by laws and customs in a particular time and place, and a person may become a slave from the time of their capture, purchase or birth.
Today, chattel slavery is unlawful in all countries, but a person may still be described as a slave if he or she is forced to work for another person without an ability on their part to unilaterally terminate the arrangement. Such situations are today commonly referred to as "practices similar to slavery". The present form of the slave trade is commonly referred to as human trafficking.
Slavery existed before written history and in many cultures. It was once institutionally recognized by most societies, but has now been outlawed in all countries, the last being Mauritania in 2007. However, it continues through such practices as debt bondage, serfdom, domestic servants kept in captivity, certain adoptions in which children are forced to work as slaves, child soldiers, human trafficking and forced marriage. Accordingly, there are more slaves today than at any time in history, with an estimated 20 million to 36 million slaves worldwide.
Set in the 1850s South, the film follows Cassy and Luke, two black slaves who are sold to the sadistic plantation owner MacKay. He wants labor from the men and sex from the women. On this, he is determined to exploit both Cassy and Luke.
Slaves are an English punk duo which formed in 2012. It consists of Laurie Vincent (guitar, bass, vocals) from Maidstone, Kent and Isaac Holman (drums, vocals) from Royal Tunbridge Wells, Kent. Their music has been described as "British punk with harsh bluesy garage riffs".
They released their first EPSugar Coated Bitter Truth in 2012 under Girl Fight Records. Their first single, "Where's Your Car Debbie?", was released by Fonthill Records in early 2014 and they were then signed by Virgin EMI. They released their first single under Virgin EMI, "Hey", in November 2014, followed by "The Hunter" in the same month. They appeared on Later... with Jools Holland and were nominated for the BBC's Sound of 2015.

Slavery - Crash Course US History #13
In which John Green teaches you about America's "peculiar institution," slavery. I wouldn't really call it peculiar. I'd lean more toward a horrifying and depressing institution, but nobody asked me. John will talk about what life was like for an enslaved person in the 19th century United States, and how enslaved people resisted oppression, to the degree that was possible. We'll hear about cotton plantations, the violent punishment of enslaved people, the day-to-day lives of enslaved people, and slave rebellions. Nat Turner, Harriet Tubman, and Whipped Peter all make an appearance. Slavery as an institution is arguably the darkest part of America's history, and we're still dealing with its aftermath 150 years after it ended.

What Does the Bible Actually Say About Slavery?
One of the most common arguments against the Bible concerns its stance on "slavery." At first glance, the word "slavery" seems identical to our modern understanding, particularly the tragic results of the Atlantic slave trade. However, after some research, it becomes clear that the Bible is discussing two entirely different concepts. The type of slavery seen in the Atlantic Slave Trade is never endorsed by God. In fact, whenever something like that is mentioned, it is described as evil in the sight of God. God freed the Israelites out of slavery from Egypt. Watch the rest of the video to discover what scripture actually refers to when it uses terms like "slave."

Don't try to say that I threaten your freedom We've done without for 20 years, so think if we really need 'em We're all just slaves for the troop commanders We're all slaves We can blow up things better than in any country except this one. Waiting for it too then you realize it ain't too much fun. We're in a country, Democracy, supposed to be the best on the globe. Living ? for the high class clones We're all just slaves for the troop commanders We're all slaves We're all just slaves for the troop commanders
The notion that a slave whispered "Memento mori" (or a similar phrase) to Roman generals during triumphal processions is an intriguing and widely repeated claim ... Notably, Tertullian does not specify that the figure behind the general was a slave.
(MENAFN - The Conversation) For centuries, it has been held that the ideas and movement for the abolition of the transatlantic slave trade came from western abolitionists. No input from Africans... .
Andre Rebelo denies being treated like a slave by his Instagram model girlfriend, Gracie Piscopo, during a trial into the alleged murder of his mother ....
