Gustav Theodore Holst (born Gustavus Theodore von Holst; 21 September 1874 – 25 May 1934) was an English composer, arranger and teacher. Best known for his orchestral suite The Planets, he composed a large number of other works across a range of genres, although none achieved comparable success. His distinctive compositional style was the product of many influences, Richard Wagner and Richard Strauss being most crucial early in his development. The subsequent inspiration of the English folksong revival of the early 20th century, and the example of such rising modern composers as Maurice Ravel, led Holst to develop and refine an individual style.
Swansea (/ˈswɒnzi/ SWON-zee; Welsh: Abertawe [abɛrˈtauɛ], "mouth of the Tawe"), officially known as the City and County of Swansea, is a coastal city and county in Wales. It is Wales's second largest city and the UK's twenty-fifth largest city. Swansea lies within the historic county boundaries of Glamorgan. Situated on the sandy South West Wales coast, the county area includes the Gower Peninsula and the Lliw uplands. According to its local council, the City and County of Swansea had a population of 241,300 in 2014. The last official census stated that the city, metropolitan and urban areas combined concluded to be a total of 462,000 in 2011, making it the second most populous local authority area in Wales after Cardiff. During its 19th-century industrial heyday, Swansea was a key centre of the copper industry, earning the nickname 'Copperopolis'. Since 2011, Swansea has started to expand into a larger region known as the Swansea Bay City Region. After combining with other councils, it now includes Tenby and other parts of West Wales, its population including these areas an estimated 685,051. The chairman of the new region is Sir Terry Matthews

The Swansea district (Welsh: Abertawe) was one of the four local government districts of West Glamorgan, Wales from 1974 to 1996. It was formed from the areas of the county borough of Swansea and Gower Rural District, from the administrative county of Glamorgan.
It inherited the city status of the county borough and so was styled as the "City of Swansea", and was governed by Swansea City Council. On March 22, 1982 the city was granted letters patent raising the mayor to the dignity of Lord Mayor.
The district was abolished in 1996, when it was merged with most of the Lliw Valley district to form the larger City and County of Swansea. The last leader of the council was Cllr Trevor Gordon Burtonshaw.

The South Wales derby between Swansea and Cardiff is notorious not just for it’s fiercely competitive fans — it’s also Britain’s only ‘bubble match’. This means away fans have to travel on official, police-escorted supporter’s coaches to and from the game — a policy designed to stop rival fans from fighting each other. But is it time to put the ‘bubble system’ to bed? The i’s Daniel Storey travelled from Cardiff to Swansea to find out. https://shorturl.at/8Nu54 #swanseacity #cardiff #cardiffcity #swansea #derby #football ⬇️ Follow i for the best in news and analysis. ⬇️ https://inews.co.uk/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/theipaper Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theipaper/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/theipaper TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@theipaper LinkedIn: https://www....
This footage captures the moment a car thief stole a vehicle before driving it dangerously through Swansea. Officers from our Territorial Crime Team were on Mynydd Newydd Road on November 22 last year, when they saw what appeared to be a vehicle being stolen in front of them. The driver failed to stop as directed by officers, and was followed for a short time as it was driven dangerously. Following a pursuit, the driver drove the vehicle off-road before abandoning it. With the use of a drone and police helicopter, a man was located sitting on the riverbank. He was detained, identified and arrested. Craig Cullen, 39, from Swansea, later pleaded guilty dangerous driving and aggravated vehicle taking and was sentenced to 20 months' imprisonment. He has also been disqualified from driving fiv...
#wales #uk #turdtowns #swansea #cardiff #neath #porttalbot #brokenbritain Hello welcome back to Turdtowns. We are the channel which visits the lesser known places in the UK. I had unfinished business in wales this week. I had to visit the Swansea area but this also included the last bit of The Valleys which has provided me with so much content so far. This is Swansea/Neath\Port Talbot or West Glamorgan. I managed to dig up six pretty bad places for this weeks viewing pleasure. The number one spot may surprise you but I think we finally found a worse places in The Welsh Valleys than Rhymney. Let us know if we missed anywhere out and let us know where we should visit next!

I vow to thee, my country, all earthly things above,
entire and whole and perfect, the service of my love:
the love that asks no question, the love that stands the
test,
that lays upon the altar the dearest and the best;
the love that never falters, the love that pays the
price,
the love that makes undaunted the final sacrifice.
And there's another country, I've heard of long ago,
most dear to them that love her, most great to them that
know;
we may not count her armies, we may not see her King;
her fortress is a faithful heart, her pride is suffering;
and soul by soul and silently her shining bounds
increase,
and her ways are ways of gentleness and all her paths are
