Sir John Barrow, 1st Baronet, FRS, FRGS (19 June 1764 – 23 November 1848) was an Englishstatesman and writer.
Career
Barrow was born the son of Roger Barrow in the village of Dragley Beck, in the parish of Ulverston, then in Lancashire, now in Cumbria. He started in life as superintending clerk of an iron foundry at Liverpool and afterwards, in his twenties, taught mathematics at a private school in Greenwich.
He taught mathematics to the son of Sir George Leonard Staunton; through Staunton's interest, he was attached on the first British embassy to China from 1792–94 as comptroller of the household to Lord Macartney. He soon acquired a good knowledge of the Chinese language, on which he subsequently contributed articles to the Quarterly Review; and the account of the embassy published by Sir George Staunton records many of Barrow's valuable contributions to literature and science connected with China.
Barrow ceased to be officially connected with Chinese affairs after the return of the embassy in 1794, but he always took much interest in them, and on critical occasions was frequently consulted by the British government.
John Barrow (1735 - 1811) was a Roman Catholic priest towards the end of the penal times for English Catholics.
He was from a Catholic yeoman family from Westby-in-the-Fylde. His uncle, Father Edward Barrow, was a Jesuit priest serving Wesby Hall who had been outlawed as a Catholic priest in 1717. Barrow, studied in the English College in Rome for seven years but was not ordained immediately as he was impressed into the Royal Navy in Portsmouth and served for five years before deserting at Dunkirk. He was acquitted by the court-martial through pretending to be an Italian speaker.
He resumed his studies for the priesthood at Douai where he was ordained in 1766 and became the priest at the mission in Claughton in his native Lancashire which had been associated with the recusant Brockholes family. He remained there until his death. He was buried at the adjoining mission of New House.
"He may sometimes have shown but scant courtesy to the wishes or commands of his own bishop, but he insisted that everybody else should be obedient and deferential to ecclesiastical authority!. He enlarged the parish church of Claughton, in 1794, improved the roads as township overseer and negotiated with Sir Edward Smythe for the exchange of the land for Ushaw College. Though his name is on the list of Douai writers although no description of his writing is recorded. It is likely that he contributed to the Catholic Committee controversy. He was praised by the Cardinal Secretary of State for his Catholic loyalty and his zeal for the cause of the Holy See.
As a Democratic congressman in an increasingly Republican state, Barrow was targeted for defeat by Republican strategists from the time he was first elected. Twice the GOP-controlled Georgia General Assembly redrew his district, forcing him to move first from Athens to Savannah and then from Savannah to Augusta to remain a resident of his district. He was ultimately defeated in his 2014 bid for re-election.
Education, early career, and family
Barrow was born in Athens, Georgia, to Judge James Barrow and his wife, Phyllis (Jenkins) Barrow, who both had served as military officers during World War II. His family has deep roots in the Athens area, and according to his staff he is a great-great-nephew of David Crenshaw Barrow Jr., for whom nearby Barrow County was named. Through his Barrow ancestors he is related to 19th-century Georgia Gov. Wilson Lumpkin.

Fed on their organs, limbs, a blood hunger never satisfied. Soon he realized his raid of Death had come to an end. No living soul left, for his hunger driven theft. Killed them all! "But I must eat! Just a little piece of me! Come to daddy!" He must eat! Twenty days almost starved to Death in this forsaken place. Found by soldiers who brought him back, he was safe. Comatose, little did he know what horrors slowly crawled upon him once he (a)rose. "Severe war traumas" he was told. Mouth guard. Strap. Pull him to the ground. No innocent hands! Every second counts. He ate his own tongue. Thick blood flows. "We are losing him!" Heart fails. So wasteful, tasteful, eaten from within. This blood hunger grown to be a part of him. Never satisfied, in his last moment realized,
